It's the same as buying a latte from Starbucks, it'll cost them about 25p to make and they charge about £2.50, a 10x markup -- but they have to pay the £100k/yr rent&rates, £250/day wage bill, ect ect ect. Yet the burger van down the road charges a quid fifty. Not sure exactly how prices can be regulated and how you would determine the 'market value' for manyh products
Carpetright offer nothing in service & customer experience for the inflated mark up.. same & much better service everywhere else!
Business overheads have absolutely nothing to do with product quality! If you can't sustain a business without lying about the market value of your products then the business should not be viable... criminally inflating of imaginary value of list prices cannot be deemed an acceptable behaviour toward the consumer who can only act in good faith! Buying in good faith is a consumers protected right!0 -

Agreed! But that does not mean disregarding the duty of professional dilligence required of a trader.. the idea of sales prices is that the consumer makes a saving! Not that the trader massively inflates a price to the point they can hugely influence the behaviour of the consumer by misleading them to believe they are getting 70% off an item.. when in truth they are paying average market value!
It is a way of conning the public & influencing them to buy from that trader, whilst offering them nothing in return, except dishonesty!!

But you said the discounts are based on their list price, not the market value. You evidently do not understand margins and mark-up.
If something has a 99% margin it means the cost is 1% of the price, hence the markup is actually about 10,000%.

They are making a saving on the retailers usual price.Can you still not see that?

What you don't get is that a lot of people are quite happy with the service/price from carpetright. Do you think people don't shop around are and think people are enticed in with the big sales signs?
I've compared them with local independent retailers and quite frankly not prepared to pay the expensive prices quoted by the independents. I care not one jot what the list price is claimed to be. I want a cheap and cheerful carpet - after all it's just for walking on.0
