I understand this as my neighbour smokes outside in summer and it often drifts into my home (even with the window closed). It's not how I want my home to smell as a non smoker (though I don't care if they smoke!)
I'd personally fix the issue myself as it could be detrimental to one's health. Although incredibly unfair I don't think your landlady has any legal obligation and I bet you have very little chance of stopping him smoking in his own home. With a neighbour like that I'd be looking to move in 12 months.........(nothing against pot smokers but his undesirable visitors would put me off!)
  • I understand your frustration, but if it is bothering you that much why dont you seal the door yourself? I can't imagine it would be very expensive, I don't think you LL has a legal obligation to do it for you.

I thought of doing it myself, but wouldn't it be an alteration of fixture/fittings that as a tenant I can't do?
  • I have an "agenda" for tolerance in general be it cannabis, tobacco, a little music, running a car and belching who knows what into the atmosphere..........................

If we live in close proximity we have to accept this kind of stuff. Ridiculous speculation and scare stories are not helpfull to anybody.

Hopefully the police have more important matters to investigate.

    Cannabis ain't legal though.
  • What do you want people to say OP?

It is unlikely your LL will do anything to the door - and it's unlikely to help if the smell is indeed as strong as you say. You can try to seal it yourself - but you will never get it completely sealed (well unless you never want to use it as a door).

Otherwise listen to the posters here and call the only people that can help - the police. If the smell is that strong it is likely that they are growing some as well as smoking it.

I was thinking the same thing.
  • I think you will find that all Police are interested in getting all drugs off the streets including Cannabis.

You would do well to research how much cannabis they have pulled off the streets in recent months in England and Northern Ireland, plus how many farms they have shut down at the same time.

Also there have been no scare stories in this thread.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

Self adhesive draught excluder is very cheap and easy to fit. I expect doing this yourself will be easier than dealing with an indifferent landlord.

We all know the OP has no intention of following the only sensible replies. Like a growing minority on these forums, they ask for advice, advice is given, but because it is not the advice they want to hear, they find an excuse to ignore it.

Hi OP, I take it you're talking about the awful genetically engineered "skunk" marijuana rather than old-fashioned cannabis? Terrible stuff - I'd be very wary of confronting a regular user..

One thing that might help, though not designed for this, is a de-humidifier - placed behind your door where the worst of the stink comes through.

I don't know the science behind it, but as the de-humidifier sucks air in and extracts the moisture, it also removes even very strong smells. Set on a timer; 15 minutes on 15 minutes off [so as not to burn out the motor] that should make a considerable improvement.

Hope this helps, and Good Luck!
