  • Thanks to everyone who runs this thread and all who contribute to it. I'm a bit late but would like to aim for £100 for Feb please

I came in well under my £25 a week budget for January so this is a realistic target for Feb I think. I depleted my frozen stores a bit in Jan so may not make £25 a week but if the target is there I'm more likely to be creative to stick to it. Have spent £7.70 so far of Feb budget, and have to write shopping list as I need my weekly shop tomorrow. Here we go agian!

  • Good morning. A Lovely bright crispy blue sky day here. Please could my budget be reset to £250 for this month please for all groceries, toiletries & cleaning products. I am hoping to restock my cupboards with a big shop and it was our anniversary last week and we (I!!) went a little mad buying takeaway style curry meals from the SM to have instead of a meal out and spent £31:eek:. That did include breakfast cereal and wine and is probably half the price it would have cost if we'd eaten out but still shocking. It was a very enjoyable meal though:p.

Also spent £8.40 in MrT last night on wine, paella rice,
whoopsied prawns, reduced price stock cubes and Chorizo and £1.80 on sanitory items in MrM. OH took me out on a surprise yesterday to the zoo to see the pandas and the cinema to see The Artist and he had booked a Spanish restaurant for the evening but we decided to make paella at home instead and saved ourselves a bit of money and meant OH could have a drink too. It was lovely and we were left with 2 portions to freeze for midweek lunches.

Today I am trying to use what's in and have planned Spicy Carrot Soup for lunch and Stuffed Peppers and Rice for dinner. We have leftover wine if we want a drinkie.

Will need to buy milk though sometime today as only have a dribble left.

Big shop planned for tomorrow evening after work so going to spend the morning meal planning and writing a list:T and being organised.

Kids and dog have gone in before moiderising could occur! Mine have just woken up and are bouncing around. Their bedroom is at the back so they didn't hear the noise.

It is my eldests birthday tomorrow so I am going to let him choose the dinner off my list.

Morning everyone - its a NSD today. Even if I wanted to get out and about the snow would stop me! So instead I am packing up containers of rice and chilli to freeze for packed lunches (we have a microwave at work) and am planning on making a weetabix cake and rice pudding later.

    Keep safe everyone.

Stoking up on Porridge and Tea before going snow-clearing in the village. Also got key to the grit bin so may spread a little happiness in Church Square as there is an evening service at 5pm and with the cars driving in and out to park do make it lethal under foot (especially for our older residents). We'll also clear the footpath to the village hall so that they can get there for their Sunday lunchtime tipples (whiskey-macs I can confidently predict!).

DH went out at midnight to collect DS from the gig his band were playing in next town (had to stop several times to de-ice the w-screen wipers; they are something of a token device on our ancient Land Rover Defender) so that took to 1am (normally 20 mins) then they got the band and their kit home and promptly got stuck on the main A**. DS got out and ran up front and retrieved blankets from boots of cars for people who were afraid to get out and attempted some pushing up the slight incline that was at the root of it (budding hero!) and they got home safely at 3am. Just started snowing again I think - skies are leaden, full and grey.

Must just mention the kits - first time they have seen snow and it's hilarious. They can't both get through the cat flap at the same time (they know this because they tried :rotfl:) so have adopted the turn round and miaow at me approach (rather like Simon's Cat on Youtube) - so I opened the door and they ventured forward - but only as far as the step of snow where they sat snuggled next to each other, sniffing the air and trying the odd paw in the white stuff. Not convinced. I tried to shut the door to prompt a decision - they actually braced their bums against it so I couldn't shut it! So funny.

Nothing to do with groceries - won't be going out for those today!! Roast chicken this evening and found some frozen crumpets we can put to good use later in front of the wood-burning stove

    Good morning everyone!

Lots of snow here, and its still snowing! We started the day with scrambled eggs on toast (well, my boyfriend did, I can't always handle hot food in the morning so had my value corn flakes hehe) and took the dog for a walk...but had to turn back! The snow was too deep for our cairn terrier dog to walk through!:o He turned into a little snowball and we had to take a hairdryer to the poor little guy to melt it off him!:snow_laug

Lots of warming food today I think...hot chocolate, beans on toast with cheese for lunch and maybe some veggie spag bol for dinner or tortelloni. Lots of housework to keep warm too!

I hope everyone with kids (or big kids at heart!) has a lovely time today up and down hills with sledges :) What fun for you!

EDIT: Ooh suffolk lass, another suffolk girl here :) We've had rather a lot of snow haven't we! Lovely to hear about your kittens learning about snow!

    Good morning!

Got my Mr W delivery despite the snow (amount already updated to signature). The driver forgot to bring the bag of veg in, but we called the helpdesk and he came back just now to give it to us. :)

A few subsitutions - a 1 litre bottle of extra virgin olive oil instead of 750ml litres (same brand, same cost :D), and a 1.5kg of a free range pork joint instead of an essentials brand stuffed 1kg joint. They gave me a £11.50 joint and charged me £3.74, which is what my original one would have cost. :j

However - they didn't send chicken thighs (they did inform me that none were in stock), and looking closely at it I only got 3 packs of meat meals. A lot was storecupboard stuff and lunch items I guess.

I think I am going to stick to my own online deliveries rather than sharing them in the future because I don't appear to have got as much as usual, and my flatmate seems to have loads more.

  • So here are my spends for this week:

Music Centre cafe for tea/cake for me and DD: 2.35

    Crisps/chocolate at newsagents: 1.18

    Crisps at newsagents: 0.65

McDonalds for dinner when not at home for 15 hours: 8.95

Music centre cafe for tea/cake for me and DD: 1.85

    *Sigh* :o

So my spends so far are: 14.98/300

Well, this is why I've joined this thread, and it's been a real eye opener already. There have been some brilliant ideas that I've read, and I can see what I can do to help myself.

Carry hot water in a flask on music lesson days to make our own tea; make our own snacks to take; try to take enough food with me so I don't get tempted to junk eat from the newsagent; and give some thought to Thursday dinner time when we're out for so long.

Let's see what next week brings!

Have a good week everyone and keep warm

  • First update for this month and so far have mostly spent on rubbish

    Home bargains £1.98
    Milk £0.85
Corner shop £5.43 (sweets + euromillions ticket)
£10.00 ish spend on food related items on shopping trip (not even counting the £5 i spent to get two balloons )

need to find a way to cheer up that doesnt involve spending money, perhaps if i actually manage to put away some savings that would work
