  • Can I ask a question,

How do you get the stars on your profie? I notice some of the people posting have different coloured ones too. Is it based on how many posts made or something like that?
  • Sorry for your loss. Sending love and hugs xx

After long illness, FIL died this morning in nursing home. OH had gone down again Thursday knowing death was imminent. Left me a bit numb. MIL not eating properly so OH buying food for her. Don't know when the funeral is. Will try to keep to budget this month.

Going to Lidl later with mum as OH has car (getting perilously low on cat food and bread - will dust down bread maker maybe next month but I think cooking cat food would turn out more expensive!). Menu for week planned (lots of fish cos OH not so keen on fish), freezer audited, very last of the Christmas turkey to be finished this lunch time. At last am getting to the end of UFOs - unidentified frying objects - you know, those bits of meat in unlabeled plastic bags whose identity only becomes clear on defrosting (and sometimes not even then lol). Love you all, you're the best xxx

Yup, it's based on the number of post you've made. I can't remember how many you need to get 2 stars :o - 100 ? but *think* it's 3 stars for 750, 4 stars for 3,000 and you've got to be a totally diehard MSEr to get 5 stars at 10,000 posts!:D

  • Well, it's finally thawed enough to venture out to Mr A to take the mouldy cheese back  and, of course, got a few bits whilst there:o.

A few bits for the cats (separate budget) but did manage to pick up a couple of good offers:

    Cathedral City 350g (mild & mature) - £2 (usually around £4)
    Batchelor's Cup a Soup boxes (4) - 2 for £1 (usually £1.08/box)

Stocked up on the cup a soups in particular as really handy to keep in a drawer at work.

Few other bits & bobs - with my usual gripe about the price of milk but that should hopefully see me through until next weekend, bar maybe having to get some rolls for lunches towards the end of the week.

Up to £33.03 for the month so far......

Hope everyone's safe and warm wherever you are..:)

OMG - went to page 1 one of this thread to get the weetabix cake recipe and was side tracked by the weetabix brownies. I have had an open packet of weetabix in the back of the cupboard with 7 left (must have been from rellies staying since I dont eat them). Well - have just taken the brownies out of the oven and, if they taste as good as they smell, they will be a defo hit - mmmmmm. May have to use this as excuse to buy in more weetabix me thinks!!

Huge thanks to Jaxxy00 for donating the recipe.

Yum yum, love the Weetabix brownies. We made some on Friday and they have now all gone :o

  • Hi everyone
I've had a few very spendy days since Thursday with lots of unexpected stuff thrown in my direction, which has knocked me a bit but I'm determined to be back on track today.
I've done my first couple of shops for the month. I spent £26 in the butchers yesterday getting all of my meat for February, plus some cakes to take to a friend as she was making lunch. Then we've been to Mr S today for the groceries and another £45.20. It's definitely coming down to what I was spending before Christmas. It's true that being aware of the problem is half way to solving it.

  • Well im back from all 3 shopping venues,

Spent a grand total of £62.64. This should last us longer than the week tho in terms of dinner. Its amazing to see how much we actually spend on food. i did get a book for DS in there today and a birthday card so i suppose not too bad.

Dont think il manage to stay on target but im gona give it my best shot :)

This is my first month doing it so i will maybe set my budget to £250 for next month. That mite be more realistic but maybe not so much of a challenge. il see how close i get this month.
    Mortgage deposit target April £9000
New mortgage deposit target May £8000 to go

£48.48 spent yesterday. Most of it was for rugby food and drink for 5 yesterday and today. Shouldn't need anything this week as we are off on holiday on Saturday so I'm running the fridge down. We'll have loads of cheese which I can freeze, so mostly veg/salad to use up. Freezer still fairly full. Cheapest month in ages for January so I'm hoping to repeat the success.

  • The market was on, but a lot of the stallholders didn't make it through the snow. :(

So a splurge of £23.40 for meat at the market, plus £7.49 at M&S for eggs and produce. Budget is looking scary considering it's still early in the month, but I think the meat will do about two weeks worth of meals. Added to the week's worth of meat already in the freezer and a now full storecupboard, it should mean that I need to buy very little for the rest of the month. Here's hoping!
