Dinner was Salmon with home made wedges and salad - red cabbage/white cabbage/red onion/white onion and tomatoes. We were out of Tartare sauce so I made some sauce to have with the meal. I used a squirt of mayonaise/tiny bit of hot chilli sauce/pepper/mustard powder and a hint of garlic powder. Mr F thought it was lovely. Cost of the meal - £1.24 for the two of us plus salad left for tomorrow's lunch.
(Glistening on the wedges - not oil - Mr F sprinkled on vinegar before I took the photo.)Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I never go to bed without knowing/planning what we are going to have for dinner the next day. I can remember my Mum complaining - I never know what to have for dinner - it is always the same old things - and it was - a rotation of meals from week to week.
Sunday was a roast with either Chicken or Lamb. Monday was a stew. Then the other days were - sausages/mash or steamed bacon pudding or liver/onions or hotpot or toad in the hole - can't remember any more. This was in the 1950s/1960s. We never had takeaways or ate out apart from when we visited family.
Mum was only cooking for - dad/her and two daughters. I was cooking for eight when I was bringing up my children so planning was vital.
People have a much wider range of choice now a days.
Anyway - tomorrow we are having - home made cheese/onion pastie/roast potatoes/cabbage and swede.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Thank you to everybody for your support, especially the regular posters and the members who run the thread. Please could you put me down for £140 for February.
I had a great MSE moment on Sunday. I was in Solihull, heading for J*hn Lewis when a lady stopped me and asked if I was going to J*hn Lewis (JL). I confirmed I was and she flashed 2x£25 vouchers at me and asked if I would like to buy them for £25 for the two! She told me she had just taken a coat back and this what she had been given and would not use them. She told me she had stopped me because I had my children with me :question:. Anyway, I am normally cautious and would normally be quite dubious. However, somehow I found myself handing over £25 cash!!! As soon as the deal had been done I began to feel sick but she was gone! Anyway, I chose my purchases in JL (a cushion for £22 & a sheet for £7 = £29) and handed over my 2 vouchers. Not only did they accept them but they gave me my £21 change in cash! Happy days! £29 worth of goods for £4! Thank you mystery lady!! :T2017 GC O-£93.46/£160; S-£136.26/£160; A-£130.55/£160; J-£47.12/£160;

Forgot to say that we had this for dinner tonight http://www.mumsnet.com/Recipes/i/634-Easy-chicken-satay-curry
We have had it once before but it is lovely! The only tips I would give are:- that we actually add 4 tsp of the curry paste & not 1-2
- today I forgot to add the lime & coriander at the end & it was just as nice!
- It is a little runny. For us, this is fine as we normally serve it in a bowl with rice.
