Afternoon! Wow, it feels like a looong day today. Getting up at 4am is not to be sniffed at! Anyway, another spend to report today - £13.31 at Mr M and £0.98 at Mr L. I popped in at lunchtime to see what it was about as I'm ashamed to say I haven't gone there yet (it's a bit of a trip for me to make). So, it was a result - a few of the branded things (that DH prefers) are a lot cheaper in Mr L than anywhere else, so I am happy indeed. And I saw an offer I couldn't pass up on chicken thighs so next time I need them, I'll know where to go. :)

Luckily, there isn't much on the shopping list left to get which should take my weekly total to about £31. We'll see if that works out though! Got lovely chicken tikka open sandwiches or wraps (depending on DH) for tea with salad. Kitchen is all cleared up, tea all prepped and ready to go, and then I can relax a bit! Hoping for a spend of less than £5 tomorrow :D

    See you tomorrow!

I made the wheetabix fruit loaf yesterday(dd suddenly gone off wheetabix after I bought a big box). Big thumbs up from all the family.

You should try the Weetabix brownies in the recipe index as well, they are yummy.
Loving the tip for lentils in bolognese! Will definitely be doing that once we use up our frozen stockpile!!!

I also put a handful of porridge oats in to bulk up my bolognese. I add them when the meat has browned before adding the tomatoes and that way no-one knows they are there.

Good morning everyone :) Yessterday was a NSD and today (hopefully!!) all I need to get at tesc@ are teabags and bread. Was going to try the value teabags and hope no-one notices but I don't know if I'm maybe pushing my luck here:D I've made a weekly meal plan and have enough in the fridge/freezer for at least 7 days so fingers crossed. Last nights dinner was supposed to be sweet and sour chicken (tin of sauce I found in the cupboard) but when I checked the date on the tin it said BBE june 2010 so I was terrified to use it and had Thai green curry instead (another jar from the cupboard I didn't know was there) I've picked up a lot of tips from this thread which has given me the confidence to get on with it so thanks. Tonights dinner is going to be HM soup and HM bread followed by HM banana loaf and custard. DH has the dentist this afternoon for a filling  so the softer the food the betterX
I would have opened it - done the smell test - and used it! We have used stuff older than that. Years ago - tin food wasn't dated.

    Hi all

I'm new to this challenge, so if I do anything wrong please let me know!

There's just my son and I. Ds is 4 and eats very little really but he wastes a lot lol. I also buy treats for him, which I tend to help him devour. :D I'm thinking as it's my first month I'd like to put down £150 which would include food, cleaning stuff and pet food etc but exclude alcohol. :o Does this sound do-able?

I'll be starting it from the 1st to the end of each month. Off to update my siggy.
Sounds very do - able to me.

    Hello everyone

Reporting spends of £63.09. This should see us through (mostly) until 10 February. Will need mile and bread and 1 or 2 other small things but largely it should stay that way for a while!

AND... I have had 2 NSD on grocery shopping in a row :j Unheard of for me. Should have another one tomorrow too!!

I *may* change my grocery budget from £35 per week to £30 per week because I've started to buy the pet food in bulk once or twice a month when it's on offer at Pets at Home. This will change my £140 for February to £120, OR I may just do that from March onwards. I'll do it big n bold n red if I change.

Meanwhile, last week's shopping came to £28, so I'm either £2 or £7 under budget. Either way, it's the right side, but I will have to do a proper budget for the pet stuff if that's the way I decide to go. I already budget for vet bills, so I may just change that to pets.

  • HI all,

  • Extra spend today am afraid of a £1,due to work colleague bringing home-made huge sticky choccy cake and crispy choccy tray bake in - 50p each ,so bought one of each ,one for my lunch and one for kids to share tonight.

Yesterday made porridge with a difference - cooked oats and milk as normal but halfway through added chopped apple and a pinch of ............chilli powder!

Honestly it works - really warming and sweet.:)

    Off to sort out signature.
