Sadly not all nice thoughts at stations, still get shivvers going down those massive escalators at Kings Cross and thinking about those poor people trapped in the fire
On a nicer not, I used to love going through Mornington Crescent when that was closed - really eerie. What other ghost stations are there?
Yes I think that too when I am in them, it's strange to think that they ahve been used by so many people. I also think of the war years where they were used as airraid shelters. I was holding everyone up when we last went there by walking slowly and trying to take everything in. We stayed on the outskirts of London and I hadn't appreciated the old, small subway stations before and this is what spiked my interest. Anyway I saw a building that looked like it should have been a station but wasn't and when I asked google I found this link.
http://underground-history.co.uk/front.php
Fascinating stuff!!Your poster sounds great, I wiulkd definitely have it framed.
Thanks for the link.I've had a quick, very interesting, thanks.I love looking at the map of the London Underground, such a beautiful yet simple design. The names are so evocative too.Since today is a spend day,I'll take it in to the shop to see what'll cost to frame. They'll probably ask for a deposit.
A spend day as my credit card bill has gone through.I didn't used to count individual spends with my CC -mostly internet shopping, but would count the day the monthly bill is paid.I've decided that this is 'cheating' as in theory I could spend on my credit card every day and only put down one day in the month as a spend day,IYSWIM.So this time, for the last time, today's payment counts as a spend.Hope that that makes sense...
wannabee hope you're feeling better today. What a nasty experience.
spoon the only way I can do my 10 000 steps a day on days when I'm working is to walk to work, which is almost 5 000 steps. All the walking I do at work takes care off the rest.;)0 -

Well, in my defence I do have chocolate on my list
3x6 pack of Cr3m3 Eggs (for my kids who will be 28, 23 and 20 by Easter) as they're half price, which makes them a better deal than the 'Egg' version (which is the one my chap checked for in store this morning)
4x individual Kind3r Eggs for DD's OH who's 29 (better deal than buying a box of 3)
1 each Crvnchie and Fl@ke eggs for my 2 elder GDs (looks like each comes with 4 small bars, so they can swap some if they want to as DD says both girls like both types)
1x pack 4 bags M!lky B@r buttons for the baby - to be put away until she's ready for them (she'll be 2.5months at Easter, but I'm sure her elder sisters will be upset on her behalf if I don't get her something!!)
So that makes up £11 of my £70 spend - quite a hefty percentage of itThat's 7 of the 8 people I need/want to get for sorted, and I'd allowed £14 to cover these 7 so I'm under budget on them too :T

It's definitely going to be a NSD for me today now, as I hurt my back this morning by twisting too quickly and am plonked on the sofa for the foreseeable future
Thank goodness for my beloved DD who brought my crutches, medicine, laptop, blanket etc etc for me and for OH's parents who came and took her to school (as it happened just at school run time and so I couldn't get hold of any mummy friends).
Hopefully the painkillers will kick in properly soon as it's a right pain in the wotsits at the moment!0 -
Oh dear oh dear, I have done even worse going AWOL over the weekend than usual
Have spent every single day since I last posted  busy weekend, and only just got my last VAT return done at work, so but stressed, should hopefully be a bit better now! Won a contest with band on Sunday though, so the stress was worth it!
DDs went out yesterday, phone and council tax, and I was/am desperate for petrol and forgot to get any, so think today will be another spend!
Waiting for my new phone to come through - saving £9.50 on contract a month and will hopefully be easier to get on the internet so I may update more regularly :j

I love the underground too... until I forget my Oyster card and it costs £8.40 to get to work and back!!!! GRRRR
I avoid it on a weekend as it seems to flow better during the week with everyone going to work and knowing their route, for my regular journeys I know exactly where to stand on each platform to exit at my stop at the right spot to exit the platform onto the escaltor .... is that sad?! LOLSantander 0% £1,529.94
Sainsbury's 0% £4,371.31
Total 0% £5,901.25

^^^^^^ This ^^^^^^
The cash price to get around the capital is scandalous. While I like my pyster card I don't want to feel a slave to it, it certainly drains me cash wise!
EDIT: and no its not sad. me and my mates certainly do it. Sometimes I tell them to pack it in and just get on but they refuse and walk down the platform
In NSD news it will stuck on three todaydriving lesson, followed by a darts meeting and the first round of the cup. Hopefully it won't drag on too long. Need to get 2 out 3 (ideally all three) of the next three days to get back on track

As you can see there is lots of activity on this challenge at the moment and it's difficult sometimes to see how many NSDs you're all declaring on posts.
Could I ask you to highlight your number of NSDs in a colour and in bold so that I can see them easily when I whizz through the posts - red would be best but I don't really mind as long as I can see the numbers easily.
Some helpful suggestions and ideas to follow below from our sponsor and godmother, BigMummaF :ANO SPEND CHALLENGE.
1. Have a good, long think about what YOU want to include in your Spend & Excluded categories.
Some of us count everything from Direct Debits & school expenses, while others do not include things like essential Bills or emergency medical costs. If you plan what is or is not a Spend for you now, it will help you decide on a realistic Target.
2. It is NOT a race!
We all have very different demands on our time & bank balance, so please do not think you have to buy everything on 1st January & make it last till 31st December! A few of us have been following this Challenge for a long...long...LONG time so have developed plans & ploys to help us along the way
3. Most important of all, WE..DO..NOT..FAIL!
Sometimes we can't quite reach our Target, but that is fineEveryone knows how Life will try to trip us up, & that is when you will find us here to help you back on to your feet.
OK, an idea of how some of us do things.
1. What you will or will not include as a 'Spend'.
Some people are doing other Challenges too, & don't include the money spent on those for this one.
Some will try to shop for other bits on the days their direct debits etc go out of their bank accounts; they're the real hard core of the bunch& have been l-o-n-g time Nsders so don't panic
Some won't count those annoying last minute demands from school & collections as you can't plan for them in advance, likewise emergency prescriptions or visits to the vet
Personally speaking & providing I don't buy anything else, I don't count parking for hospital appointments.(..but then I usually do my shopping because I'm already out )
General thoughts on €bay sales is the buyer has paid P&P so no cost to you
2. It takes Time to reach mega-numbers!
The First suggestion is the first, because a bit of planning will work wonders on your road to your Target. Have a look at Solvent's (aka Spoon:rotfl:) first posts each month for a hefty list of other Threads that may be of help. For example, there's a few giving ideas for packed lunches so you can avoid standing in the queue at the bakers for 45mins of your lunch hour! A good incentive to tweak your healthy eating & the pounds you save will show in your bank balance AND your waistline
It helps to have various 'money pots' for the different costs that happen like Scouts, dinner money, yoga, window cleaner etc etc. The idea is you "spend" all that money in one hit by....let's say **putting the week's bus fares into the pretty coffee jar, Jo's tumble tots SIZE=2]Weds mornings[/SIZE in the cracked teapot & Ben's £1 coin for the gym locker SIZE=2]Friday lunch[/SIZE in the pocket of the changing bag, on Tuesdays every week when you've got some change from doing the food shop, so an already spendy day. At least four 'spending days' condensed into one(**mine's jam jars for windows, milkman & a bit towards the bills!)
3. Any day the money stays in your pocket is a bonus!
If you look at it as a day you beat the system, you can't help but :j so don't fret it--ENJOY! If nothing else in here, we do manage find something to make us smile
We have virtual outings to wonderful places that never cost us a bean :rotfl:New York, Edinburgh & Brighton have been a couple & Spoon usually pilots the Tardis but you can use your own transport; my personal favourite has been a sit-on lawn mower borrowed from the cricket clubThe only thing to be aware of is Hubert the donkey who is partial to anything remotely edible but is not yet house-trained
And Remember;
there are no silly questions, so don't be afraid to ask us anything!"If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride"
