Boys into Ladies Toilets

my DS is 5 and is used to going in the mens toliet with his dad but when his dad isn't around he STILL kicks up to go in the mens. I will not let him - and it is nothing to do with homophobia, it wouldnt bother me in the slightest if there was a gay man using the urinal next to him - after all how could my son know? I just am uncomfortable with the idea of him being in the company of strangers, some of whom may have unnatural tendencies towards children. I therefore use the ladies with him BUT if there is a long queue and the disabled toilet is empty I will use that one. I would not however use that toilet if I knew there was a disabled person waiting to use it. When my children were young that was the only way we could all go together because the ladies cubicles are not normally big enough to fit a pram into. I am sorry if some people find that offensive. BTW I had a lovely chat with a lovely lady in a wheelchair a few weeks ago and she said that she thought it was sensible to use the disabled toilets when you had a buggy/young children, so you could keep an eye on them.0

Nicki wrote:Looby I never said I would ask an adult if they were entitled to use the disabled loo, I made clear I am well aware that I know not all disabilities are visible, and also that I never hurl abuse at people.
What I said, if you read it again, was that if I saw a mum hanging around outside a disabled loo for a child I would ask her about her child's disability - not confrontationally, just ask, and tell her about my child's needs. It really isn't difficult to do this when you are standing there with a disabled child because it comes up very naturally in conversation.0 -
I took my son into the ladies until he was 7.
After that, I let him go to the gent's but stood outside to deter any deviants, and mentally timed him..........;)
I'm having the same thing now with 3 grandsons.........
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -

I think thats the perfect attitude, a child using the correct gender toilet when they are able enough to do it all themselves, with the security of parent/or whoever is looking after outside.0 -
<WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS DELIBERATE IRONY!>
I might have missed a post earlier in the thread, but all of the posts I've read refer to the risk of paedophiles in MENS toilets.
What about perverted women? They are likely to exist in exactly the same proportion as in the male population.
At what age do I stop taking my daughters into the gents toilets with me for fear of them being accosted in the ladies toilets by paedophile women or lesbians????British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

Forgive me but I must have missed the news coverage about paedophile women attacking children.0 -
looby75 wrote:sorry I missed a bit out of my post, if I use the disabled toilet I always take my ds with me, he's only 5 so I'm not going to leave him hanging around outside on his own, so I am prob exactly the kind of person you would ask if we reallu needed to use the loo.
I didn't miss any bits out of my post thoughIf you read again, I said I asked the mums standing outside about why they were doing it. If the mum is inside with the child, then I assume there is a good reason for this - maybe a child with a non-visible disability or an adult with a non-visible disability and a young child.
As I said, my DDs disability isn't instantly visible, and if I were stopped and questioned leaving the loo with her, I'd have no problems answering the question calmly and politely. Mind you, I always have her DLA letter on me, so would have no problems proving the issue.
Why are you so upset by what I've posted Looby? I genuinely don't understand why it has got people in general so hot under the collar, but you in particular, as nothing I've said, implied or suggested in any way casts aspersions on you using the facilities - in fact the opposite, I've said leave them free for people like you with a genuine need!0 -
