  • chip and pin was 1 year old yesterday, so these businesses that are not using c n p will have to eventually as it is going to be against the law not to have c n p, therefore it is only a glitzh at the moment, might I suggest that if you intend to use a shop that you know is not c n p that you draw the money from an ATM prior to going into the shop, to save any confusion, also every new card that you may get now is chip n pin.

  • Hi,

My partner and i have bad credit - Me - about 5 defaults and a ccj. partner - about the same for various amounts.

I have just applied for a joint account with citibank, what do you think the chances of getting one are?

From reading peoples responses on here it seems likely but what about the fact its a joint account?

    any responses welcome??

    thanks!!

It's not against the law to not have chip and pin and I can't remember anyone talk about any change in the law.

Hi David, It's really hard to say about acceptance because citibank appear to have really tighened up on their approval procedures in the last few weeks and there doesn't seem to be any rule of thumb which they are going by ... Good luck with your application, post back to let us know how you get on ...

    Hello

I don't think anyone can tell you if you will be accepted or delined. Citi Bank seem to have no set standards as they have accepted some people with CCJ and defaults but declined others. Just do what I did keep your fingers crossed.

I also bought some tickets for a bus and again it worked fine- no chip and pin, I signed for each transaction. Hope info helps, I have card with cheque bit on.-3 in 1?

    Hi there,

I have recently sent my citi application back, although it is a single application, I have at least 6 defaults and 1 ccj. I received a letter from citi yesterday, along with my id which they have returned stating they will contact me if they need any further info, then it said if we don't need anything, we will open your account as quickly as possible (no time scale).

At the end of the letter, it says we look forward to welcoming you as a citi bank customer.

There is no...."if you are successful"..everything seemed like the account was on its way to been opened, I will be REALLY shocked if i get this account as i have struggled to open a basic bank account.

I will keep you posted if i get the account as i have a really bad credit history, so i think you may have a chance, some people have opened the account successfully with lots of adverse credit, some with a clean credit history have been declined..................good luck. fingers crossed for us all
  • Hi, yes that would be great, just waiting back after applying online. dont have a cheque book for either of us, but have heard you can send a letter, when did you apply? recently?

Don't worry, I don't have a cheque book either. I sent a letter stating I didn't have a cheque book and I signed the letter (citi told me to do this). I sent in a photocopy of my passport, a copy of the front and back of my signed bank card, a bank statement and a utility bill. This was more than was asked for, but just wanted to make sure.

I sent my application back wednesday 14th, and received the letter yesterday. The letter seems quite positive, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. Just have to play the waiting game now!
