Really? My OH is 26, has 5 years no claims and still can't insure an S40 for less than £1000!
It all depends on where each of you live. Someone in rural East Yorkshire will probably a lot less than what someone in east Manchester will pay for the same insurance."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
for a £1000 a renault is a hand grenade with the pin removed
fords will be rust buckets
try and find a micra with a very long mot, doesnt smell of pizza 's inside, ideally comes from a good home and has power steering (not all do) it has a solid chain cam engine, make sure its quiet though
ideally get someone to look underneath to make sure the floors and sills are solid
a few dents are acceptable at this price
choose wisely:)
look in autotrader dont buy off scammers read the advert carefully looking for liers cheats and dealers masquerading as private punters selling a pup0 -

Not true. I sold my old 2001 Mk 3 Mondeo estate late last year and there wasn't an inch of rust on the bodywork or any corrosion underneath. In fact I've not seen any rusty 10 year old Mondeo's or Focus's. Ka's maybe, but they are an old design based on a 20 year old Fiesta.
Please don't try to persuade the OP to get a Micra - she's a young lady not an old maid!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
ford ka will rust for fun, fiesta is better rustproofed
reliable and well proven engine but the bodywork lets the ka downWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -

did you read the OP'S request?
obviously not because if you did you would know that she cant afford to insure something like a focus or an old battlewagon mondeo estate
heck she hasnt even passed her test yet
the micra is an ideal car for her
i should know it is a best seller at a grand its just a shame good ones are getting scarce as i explained to check it beore purchase
mondeo estate ...jeeeez0 -
sometimes off the wall cars are cheaper to insure than something small and mainstream, micras are cool for 1 litre type though.Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0

my first car was a cinquecento - loved it!!
also would consider 3rd party insurance for first couple of years.
I paid £800 for first car and my excess was about 500(ish cant remember exactly) and if i had got fully comp and totalled my car, by the time of devaluation, and ins. trying to value it even lower i wouldnt have got much after the excess.
however after a few years was able to afford to buy and insure a bigger, newer car and def got that one fully comp'd0 -

Don't be so damn stupid! Take your own advice and read my Posts. Nowhere did I say she should get a Mondeo estate. I was replying to your inane statement that Fords are rust buckets, and used the Mondeo estate as an example that they aren't!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

So was mineI now drive a Discovery (only a little difference in size!!)
Good luck in choosing op, I have no real advice to give but there seems some sensible ideas in this thread, just choose carefully and look at every detail more than once.
And avoid finance like there was no tomorrow, it is no way to start your motoring life.
Good luck.2 angels in heaven :A0 -

what can i say
if you read my post i was referring to fords at £1000 suitable for her needs and this would be fiestas and kas i used to sell these cars and i wont now at this price because they are all rotten or clagged up
you might as well have said buy a mercedes 190 because these dont rust as pick up on a mondeo that didnt
picking things out of context in my post is childish
i wouldnt mind but you are only a figment of some drawers imagination anyway, get back in your a4 drawing book:mad::D0
