Cheers - it never occurred to me before what those numbers meant!
  • One set of numbers is the database version and the other set is the number of satelites it has found, I think.

not when you switch on - it hasn't found any satellites yet - to read no of satellites you need to press the menu button, twice on the lite, 5 times on the full.

Exciting times... we just got the final working sample of the
Brand New Talex design through today.

I am hoping to give you a little sneak preview in the very near
    future :-)

Like your current Talex, it will integrate with the new Talex
Mobile Speed Trap Laser Detector that's due to launch in the
    next month.

And if you just can’t resist the new Talex's "stunning" design,
then we'll look at putting together a really nice upgrade deal
    for you.

One other thing that's been bugging me for the last few days...

It's come to my attention that a certain company has been
putting out downright slanderous mis-information about Talex.

According to this mis-information, we have not been updating
the Talex Speed Camera Location database to the same standard
as the previous owners of Talex.

In fact, the OPPOSITE is true!...

We have recruited ex-traffic Policeman Steve Walsh (who used to
head up the speed camera database before Talex went in to
administration last year). Our team, headed up by Steve, has
made the following improvements to the database in the
    last 30 days:

Added 570 entries - This includes new fixed cameras
    and mobile sites

Deleted 717 - These have been old roadwork's, old sites,
duplicate entries and overkill on some routes

Amended 183 - This includes altering the length of the sites,
correcting any errors and adding the speed limit when
previously it had not been included

Steve has been doing a fabulous job for us and we're well
ahead of schedule with our "Speed Camera Domination" plan.

Despite some rumours floating around to the contrary, you can
ONLY get the Talex database from us and not from anywhere else.

It is POSSIBLE that there is an old version of the Talex
database being offered by some shady people (some of you will
know who I am talking about :-). However, this knock-off
version is from October 2007, with a changed date code (it's
just a 2 minute job to change the date code).

So in other words, the proper database for the Talex is only
available if you already have a genuine Talex subscription,
    or from --

    http://www.talex.co.uk/UpdateMyTalex

If you already have a subscription to the Talex Speed Camera
Location database, then I strongly suggest you update now so
that you have all these updates in your system.

If on the other hand you DON'T have Location updates enabled
then I strongly suggest you go to
    http://www.talex.co.uk/UpdateMyTalex to get yours now.

    All the best

    Adam Blair

    unquote.

I notice he has stopped naming Novus directly, presumably to avoid legal action from them if he sends out libels, so resorts to innuendo now.

I also wonder why this wonderful information about the quality of the database is not on the website where it would be under the rules of the advertising standards authority?;)
  • HI , TALEX LITE -after many emails & phone calls to adam , & trying to download with messages telling me to register (i am) or telliing me i am not (i purchased 3 years last june) i finally went to novus & successfully downloaded v8021
this seems to work fine but - "possible mobile sites " do not show - this was what adam said in his email - but nothing supercedes this imprtant feature !
anyone else got an update ?? thanks mike a
  • got an email from Adam Blair at telex , could not get on there website today to update . Quote:

Mmmmmm - updated now on the talex site (for my full talex), and it shows update 8021, which is the most recent database (or so Adam Blair says), and yet today it failed to id specs cameras on the M4 around junction 5/6, which have been in place for many weeks now....

Not quite what I'd expect from someone who claims "speed camera domination".....

    Ho hum.......

The unit *can* be updated using the Novus Delta update. Although of course you can only get the Talex database itself from Talex, and the Novus GPS Rider box claimed to have the Talex Database, which it probably did when new. One thing is certain, all the previous Talex speed camera surveyors quit.

Sounds like Blair is desperate to make his Talex business work, despite slagging off speed camera detectors before.

Unfortunately the number of updates to the database are not verifiable, and in people's experience it seems cameras are missing.
  • Most if not all of the 'possible mobile" warnings have been removed from the western section of the M25 in the 8021 release.

I think the wording of the email was 'cute'.

Of course you can only get a 'Talex database' from Talex (as mentioned above).

Some of us may want to use the 'Novus database' when our subs run out though :)

exactly! The data feedback is mixed at the moment between new talex and novus, but if neither have got their full acts together yet or if neither are going to be 100% even when they have their acts together, what's the point of giving blair money?

I would need a LOT of convincing to renew my sub with new talex, and even then probably would not do it. Why trust giving money to someone who sends you emails with obvious lies in them?
