Been trying both databases now... They seem identicall but both have different issues. The Novus one seems a bit more restrict with your speed (gives some warnings even when only doing 30 in a 30 zone) but apart from that seems OK with all new cameras and mobile sites being reported ok.

The Talex one seems to have issues when I turn onto a road where the speed camera is only 100 yards from where you join. Novus database will alert but talex doesnt although it works fine on a longer approach and also when I approach a certain camera and take the turn 50 yards before it the unit freezes but it doesnt do it with the Novus. I dont know if these issues have been fixed in the new database as I am on a bit of a restricted internet access just now so cant update.

I had same problem following the first Novus update but it seems to have been cured following a subsequent update.

for information in response to queries about the 2 types of update, I have updated my lite with novus delta updates 7113, 8021 etc and replaced with the new talex updates when they started working again up to 8021 and had no problems overwriting novus with talex or talex with novus.

After a novus update you may be asked for serial and code the first time using the talex, but not again unless having a new novus. The novus exe works fine, plug the talex in first before opening the program, successive clicks finds the right com port automatically.

If you have the old talex software installed, do not install the novus usb driver it is not needed since already installed with the talex software and the conflict of installing the same driver again may lead to problems.

we are still in the dark over whether blair or novus has a team of ex traffic policemen etc to get the best database of old.

Could it be that they are buying their database from the same source and any small differences are purely those of timing or cost?

From what we know of blair's hard sell business methods (subscribe! subscribe! subscribe!) and his emails containing outright lies it would be easy for him to monitor novus updates every day, and as soon as they have a new number to come out with a talex "update" which may have minimal or no new information so as never to appear to have a number that is lower than novus's?
  • It's clear from the Novus update facility what version is availabe, but I cannot suss the same from the Talex download doings (my dad renewed his subscribtion a few months ago and wants to get his value for money!).

It would, therefore, be appreciated if someone could inform me how to establish which version is available on the Talex update option.

    Thanks

the only way (at least on my lite) is to do the update, disconnect, switch back to normal or cam, plug back in the usb to power up and read the display, then disconnect again.

The number comes up when you first turn on the unit before it goes to the clock reading

www.activegps.co.uk have them at £15.95. I bought my Talex Lite from them and the cable was in the box.

Go to 'accessories' and then 'Talex Lite'.

a bit pricey but I hope this helps.
