It was only because you are always going on about, should I stay, or should I go, type things :rotfl: so to suggest that you move.......

It actually made me laugh :D it is funny if you look at it in the way I said.
I'm afraid I took it the same way as Lotus-eater.

BTW aj, you'd know all this about the rural economy and pheasant shoots if you ever listened to The Archers!

I HATE pheasants. They are the thickest creature around today I think. Running out into the road and just standing there when you're coming. They have even been known to, when it rains, raise their heads, drink the rain, forget to lower their heads and drown themselves! Numpties in my opinion.

    Is that really true? :rotfl:

I have to say they make me laugh. :D

We have an old rickety 3' high wooden slatted fence round the front garden and there's usually one on either side of it and they race each other up and down. Once they get to the end of the fence they turn round and do it all over again. Numpties indeed.

I don't understand the mentality of someone who can take a life or cause pain to another living thing *just* for fun. These people are not hunting for food, they are hunting for sport.

I don't agree with it either, except I thought it was a licensed activity to control the animal population (say for foxes, supposedly due to the damage they can cause) or for food (pheasants) and not simply for fun. I think (most) pheasants are killed for food (very MSE!) and not for the fun of it.

I think any bird that is stupid enough to walk across the road in front of oncoming traffic when it can fly and be safe deserves to be shot
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

Yes I have shot pheasants and rabbit for fun. I have eaten the rabbit but not the pheasant as not keen on it, though my friend took it for eating.

That said I don't eat supermarket meat only meat from my local butcher who assures me that it is kept to a high standard, although I only have his assurances on this I see no reason to disbelieve him, hes a nice man.

I dont really see that shooting animals for fun is any worse than eating battery reared chicken wings in a bar. Its just more real, you're closer to it. No-one 'needs' to eat battery reared chicken, they chose to, for 'fun'.

Well, to me it seems hypocritical to criticise people for having a hobby which entails animals being killed for fun, as long as I myself also participate in activities which entails that animals are being killed, shopping leather goods or meat. That's all.

    I agree.

I also think it's ridiculous for people who eat meat to say they disagree with others hunting for food. I mean, on what basis? You should be prepared to kill what you're prepared to eat, in my (ex-vegetarian) opinion.

As an aside, do people feel the same about fishing? Presumably that's exactly the same as shooting pheasants. I almost think it's worse, 'caus fish basically die from suffocation, and are often gutted whilst still being alive!

No pheasants are killed for food, food is the by product of the shooting industry.
Which is purely and simply for fun/sport.

And they are all raised by the landowner for this very purpose.

Know a guy who gave up his dead end job at a local paper as a photographer and went to "shoot" celebrities with his camera in LA, he makes 100k + a year.
