water saving

(I've not read whole thread as didn't have time, so appologies if this has already been covered.
Found this at Anglian Water:
"Devices that save water.
...firstly we researched the effectiveness of devices to put into water cisterns. This showed that even small ½ litre devices can affect the flushing of toilets if not fitted correctly and this can cause customers to flush toilets twice - and so use more water. We recommend correct fitting and only in toilets with cisterns greater than 7 ½ litres."

SAVE WATER FOR FREE NOW!
Want a FREE alternative to a save-a-flush bag? Instantly!
I took an empty 1 litre orange squash bottle and filled it to the brim with water (so no air bubbles at all). Then I placed it in the cistern.
I now save 1 litre on every flush through simple displacement! ;D
Easy.

Hi all,
Speaking as an emergency plumber I would be carefull using these on newer WCs.
The old toilets used to flush gallons of water then it went to 9 litres , then 7 and now the newer ones are 6 litre flush. 6 litres is just enough or in some cases not enough! Using less water coulds result in the toilet needed to be flushed twice or in some cases blocking. I would say just use the water savers on very old toilets.

Me again,
Some of you may have dual flush toilets and not realise it . Thats a half flush for a number one and erm..you get the idea?
The newer toilets with the push button on the top have 2 buttons in one, one of these is the half flush.
Some older toilets with a lever work like this;
flush and hold down for full flush or flush and release quickly for half flush.
For the DIYers out there some siphons have plastic bungs that can be removed to alter the volume of water flushed but beware of starving the pan of water as mentioned in previous post.
Well, Glad Im an expert on something!
