QUOTE I know this is really off the subject but i have been wondering for a long time if George Micheal is on the Vauxhaul advert with a man sliding down a hill to get infront of a car and say the words "nice car mate" who agrees? QUOTE

I dont agree but I did think he loked like the comedian who is now in coronation street (male) cant remember his name at the mo "It's a puppet"

Sadly I know the answer to this - Bradley walsh in corrie - not him in the ad but his look a like as he turned it down.
"it's a puppet" was Brian conley... Fortunately, Misty is not actually my own name and nobody who knows me in real life will know I've admitted to knowing this!!!

  • For all those people on a water meter or considering it... Beware. We moverd into our present home which was our first water meter... set up a DD.. each year end we were in debit and paying a high monthly payment. The meter is on the street, when we tried to read it we couldnt (nor could the meter reader) It was under 2 feet of water. We complained.. a man arrived with a very big sponge it took him twenty minutes to empty the water, then another 10 mins tapping the glass until the condensation dropped off in order for him to read the meter......For three years our readings had all been estimates, because it took to long to read the meter. We now have a new meter and 3 years of money back. apparently it is illegal not to be able to read your own meter.......

Just a slight word of warning regarding 'save a flush' items. I used the hippo bags for some time but experienced two instances of blocked drains whereby the reduced amount of water didn't quite have the pressure to forcefully push all of the, ahem, waste paper through the outside drain. this eventually resulted in a blockage that both times meant stirring a stinking drain until the blockage removed itself. Not a pleasant job and one that could have caused an overflowing drain (yuck!). I also found that you may have to flush two or three times whereas without it fitted you'd only flush once.

I have a water meter and do like the idea of both saving money, and water, but I'm not entirely convinced by the hippo bags and their equivalent. I have fitted a new cistern whilst renovating the bathroom etc. with dual flush controls which I reckon is the best long term solution.

  • Many Thanks!!!

Has cut my water bill by £12.48!!! better off in my pocket than theirs!
  • I got these last year and as several people have said they are difficult to fit in some cisterns, I tried everything in one of my cisterns and could not get the flush to work properly if it was in, so I left it out, A friend then told me try 1/2 a house brick, it worked a treat saving all that dosh.

But if you fit one in be very careful, the contents seem to be some sort of sand or something and after a while it was getting sucked into the syphon tube and damaged the disc inside the syphon.

But earlier this year while in Canada my mate showed me his setup, the syphon is replaced by an arm and a tube with large flat disk contected to the arm, so when you press the button (you get all the conversion bits for changing that in the kit) and the water flushes straight into the bowel without being slowed by a syphon. And the best bit is, it only letsa through the water while your finger is on the button, so if you do a No' 1,s then let go after a couple of seconds if No 2's then hold a bit longer and the stronger flush means its all gone quicker. Saved me a bomb.

You can now buy these in a certain catalogue that gets everything to you next day if ordered by 6pm. It has paid for itself within 3 months, and of course you are doing your bit for the enviroment as well...
