water saving

as a plumber & shower user, I cant see much point in this device. All it is, is a water restrictor. If you want a less powerful shower, simply dont turn the water on so much!
Its a bit like a petrol saving device for your car that consists of a brick placed under the accelerator!-- such a thing would indeed save you fuel but would also seriously reduce the cars performance!
Most people who have a powerful shower fitted have done so because they, like me, want such a unit & as I have said, we can always just turn the water down a bit if we want to save water or money!
these "power saving " devices are mostly useless. The way forward is the design of more efficient equipment, which I believe IS being done in many instances. Although in some cases the apparent savings are often non existant when you consider the massively increased cost of manufacture ( eg electric hybrid cars) or in the case of condensing boilers - greatly reduced operating life.
You have to look at a bigger picture before rushing into many of these "save the planet" schemes!
Having to replace your highly efficient boiler every 6 or 7 years uses far more energy & resources long term than keeping your old, simple & reliable but less efficient conventional boiler for 20 or 30 years!0 -
Just found this one out from The Freecycle Network on FaceBook

The Freecycle Network
http://www.tesco.com/ (Greener Living) has partnered with Eaga to give every member a free Eaga ShowerSmart device that works with non-electric showers. This can equate to £9,000 savings over the product's lifetime, saving up to 21,000 litres of water every year and cut carbon emissions by one tonne of CO2 over the product's lifetime....
Having a greener shower just got a little bit easier!
Use the link below to see the terms and register for your free Eaga ShowerSmart device.

Hi all,
Possibly of use to someone...
Hope this hasn't been posted before - but I did a forum search and nothing seemed to come up. (but from their terms & conditions looks like it's been around for a bit)
Tesco online in their greenliving section (which I never knew they had!) are offering a Free Eaga Shower Smart:
http://www.tesco.com/greenerliving/save_money/default.page?
Apparently you just add it to your existing shower unit (not appropriate for electric showers if I understand correctly), and it saves you money on water usage (and ultimately gas heating the water too).
One per household, just ordered one - so no idea if it's actually effective or not - but worth a try!0 -
Thanks, just requested one!!Murphy knows me too well and sticks to me like glue!0

Saving for a year in Japan.

Marisa - I was worried it would make it have no pressure and feel like having a shower under a drizzle - glad it's made no difference in that sense - hopefully it'll have an effect on the water meter though.albionwarrior wrote: »both for the same device
I thought it was odd that it wasn't posted before - it looks like the freebie's been around a while - wonder why it didn't come up when I searched0 -
I've had one of these for a while, but I do not recall sending for it, don't think it's suitable for electric shower? Quite funny really, Homebase sell these for £1 a piece. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
