I have just seen these in Homebase for a £1 which is odd when there are various links that you can get them for free.

Its a shame that you cant use them on electric showers though :(

  • Unfortunatly, all you people who blindly accept that the save a flush bag actually saves water, are being conned. The British Bathroom Manufacturers Association say 'DO NOT FIT CISTERN DISPLACEMENT DEVICES, they cause DOUBLE FLUSHING which wastes water instead of saving it.
Take the lid off the cistern, you will see a line marked on the back of the cistern, it says 'WATER LINE'. It is not there for decoration, the cistern is matched to the pan and has been tested as needing that volume of water to clear a 'full pan loading'. OK so you save a litre or two when tou take a pee but come the full pan loading and oops its run out of water, requiring a second flush which loses your accrued water savings.
These devices just give the perception of saving water but most often end up wasting it. Why do you think the water companies give them away. In the words of one water company executive, when drunk, why should we save water, we are in the business of selling it, not saving it.
Get in the real world folks.
If you want to save toilet flushing water: Stay with siphon flushing, toilets with handles. These never leak. Push button toilets leak at a rate of 44 litres per person perday in the USA on average, dont go near them unless you like throwing your money down the pan.
Then get an INTERRUPTIBLE FLUSH CONVERTER, where you just flush ONLY what is needed instead of the full cistern every time. Google 'water saving', 58 million entries, 'interflush' is number seven or thereabouts.

Note the quote on the home page: 'Has the potential to have the biggest impact on domestic water saving of any new piece of technology in 150 years'.
  • Veolia Water are giving out water saving devices including Hippos, Save a Flush, tap inserts & shower widgets, all free.

It does say on the site for Veolia customers only, but no where for account numbers etc. have just been through the form & got this message:

'Thank you for completing the form.
Your order, number @@@@@@, has been received and will now be processed. Please allow 14 working days for delivery.'

I am not one of their water customers. 2 minute form, nothing to lose.

    ditto for me too!
  • We received a postcard informing us we had been 'selected' for one of these devices. My husband telephoned to ask for our address to be removed from the database, we don't have a shower and our water pressure is very poor anyway. We also asked where our details had been obtained.

We were told a 'utility company' had provided our details, not possible to learn which one. We were assured our details would be removed and we would not receive the device.

Some few weeks later the 'Shower Smart' arrived. We still have the package unopened. I've tried to find out how the project is funded, concerned that perhaps scarce grant monies have been claimed to fund an unwanted product at a time when public funds are so limited.

It is clear that Eaga is a profit making company but information on how 'free' products are funded is hard to find.

Any info Forum members can share would be much appreciated. I guess we will simply direct the package back to the sender as unsolicited goods.

I received one of these postcards this morning and know with 100% certainty that neither myself nor my husband requested it, despite them claiming this on the card.

I've told them to delete us from their database. Their excuse was that they're sending these out to every household, neatly side-stepping the issue of how they obtained our details.

If one does arrive, I shall follow your suit.

Would you just write "unsolicted goods - return to sender" on the package? I've not done this before!
