as far as i have heard you can get a big tub of vinegar from the asian supermarkets for a couple of quid ... i think its a 5 ltr tub or something ... i have used soap nuts before, you can use them as a shampoo and a cleaner ... maybe worth looking into ?
like you i have those bills that annoy me as well ... i was £13 for my last shampoo :eek::eek:... and it wasnt a big one either ... that'll be the last i spend on that... i have a 5 litre tub of shampoo somewhere in my house but i cant find it for love nor money ... and it aint like i have loads of hidey holes lol
loving the diary btw ... i too am trying to do my garden, have had a few successes and a good few failures but it is all fun0 -
I have really sensitive skin so can only use one type of shampoo, and as I have very thick hair I get through tonnes of it! I have been looking at a website which has homemade shampoo using castille soap, but looking at the prices of this I dont think it will be much cheaper!
I've taken a bit of inspiration from Financialbliss diary & looking into the 0% credit cards. I have applied for the M&S one this morning. My main plan is for my stupidly expensive season ticket, purchase it (depending on the credit limit) on the 0% 15 month deal, take my 0% season ticket loan from work & put some to my mortgage and some in a savings account.Mtg May 2011 - £127,500/825610% CC - £2211/2211Argos Card 0% - £253.95/208.950 -
Have you thought about adding yourself onto the 2012 MFW thread? It's great seeing everyone with their overpayments and spurs you on!!0

Thanks I am now enrolled on the MFW 2012!
Update today, walked down into town (instead of driving, saving on petrol) & it was a beautiful day!
Intended on visiting the local library to see if they have any homegrowing books, but the library is closed on Thursday (didnt realise that!), will have to go tomorrow or sat...
Spent some money on some stuff to plant - onions, garlic and rhubarb. Not too sure what else we can plant this time of year. I've had an idea to have a tomato plant, but put it in my living room as we dont have a greenhouse. We have a south facing bay window which is really sunny most of the day - does anyone else grow tomatoes inside? My mum said it might look funny, but whats the difference in having a house plant and a tomato plant - at least I can eat the produce!
Received email from M&S re credit card application, should recieve welcome pack in next few days. I'm still not sure what my credit limit will be, wait and see...
We are intending on selling our two cars & buying one cheap family car & possibly a cheap van for DH business. Selling DH car to his Dad (stupid 2 seater soft top) not really a family friendly car. He gave us a cheque & put in bank today, will be spending that on a family car, then I can sell my mini, buy a van for about £1K then the remainder is for savings/pay parents back part of the loan/mortgageMtg May 2011 - £127,500/825610% CC - £2211/2211Argos Card 0% - £253.95/208.950 -
Just claimed my first £10 from Valuedopinions, its taken a while, but I did give up on surveys for a while. They will send vouchers for Tescos so I can spend it on stuff that I need rather than Amazon luxuries.Mtg May 2011 - £127,500/825610% CC - £2211/2211Argos Card 0% - £253.95/208.950

Hi FrugalFrog,
Did they mention how long to allow before receiving the vouchers? I ordered £10 tesco voucher last month and haven't seen it yet. I think they may have stated a 28 day wait though.
Well done on your journey. Your tips are great. I'd also like to start growing my own things eventually, but not brave enough to try yet.0 -

It said 28 days for delivery of vouchers, from what I have heard is that they are one of the speedier of survey payments!Mtg May 2011 - £127,500/825610% CC - £2211/2211Argos Card 0% - £253.95/208.950 -
Had a chat with my bestfriend yesterday regard overpaying the mortgage, she is not the most financially knowledgable but when her 5 year fixed rate ended last year she carried on paying the £150 extra per month, so I showed her the overpayment calculator on MSE and she was shocked that it would cut 10 years off her mortgage (so long as base rate doesnt rise too much). We started playing around with figures and I think she may have caught the MFW bug!
So when we are both turn 40 (our birthday is a week apart), out little girls (born 3 weeks apart) will just be in their teens, we will be sitting pretty with no mortgage and can all retireMtg May 2011 - £127,500/825610% CC - £2211/2211Argos Card 0% - £253.95/208.950 -
I dont think we will be able to pay much off mortgage this month, a few huge bills - car insurance, car tax, new tyres grrr... unless my work is nice and gives me a pro-rata bonus for the 1st half of last year I worked before maternity leave, but no mention of it yet, we would normally find out around the 20th Feb. If I am lucky enough to get anything most of it will go as OP! Fingers crossed.
Off to do the weekly shopping at Aldi, budget for today is £35, will take a calculator to make sureMtg May 2011 - £127,500/825610% CC - £2211/2211Argos Card 0% - £253.95/208.950 -
Keeping a close eye on my Elec & Gas usage, wondering if anyone else looks this closely? I check the meters every 2 weeks or so, the past two weeks gas usage has been approx 129KWH per day and elec 15.6kwh per day - does anyone think this usage sound high? (but I am still at home all day most days and it has been blooming cold!)Mtg May 2011 - £127,500/825610% CC - £2211/2211Argos Card 0% - £253.95/208.950
