Had the people on that number answered the query, I would not have had to post it here. The system is clearly not working, whether that is poor training or what I don't know. I only know that having been passed around from pillar to post, the answer I was seeking was given on this forum.
  • Can I pose a new question please? Friend of mine has been struggling with anorexia for a long time and now noises are being made about admitting her (+/- sectioning).
One of her (many) objections is loss of income (actually one of the most sensible objections IMO but I haven't said that to her)
Could she receive IB as I know mental health probs are included, but is the situation different if she is in a specialist unit ( i.e. not a "hospital" as such)
  • I am not an expert but I will tell you what I know.

IB can be claimed if the person has paid enough Insurance Contributions for the relevant years. They also probably have to send in sick notes from the Doctor.

I don't know whether you can claim if you are in the type of unit you mention.

You may be best to call the number mentioned in Morglin's post above, or enquire from a Benefits expert at the CAB.

Perhaps this quote from the Forum Rules will help clarify the situation:

FORUM USERS’ OPINIONS DO NOT CONSTITUTE ADVICE

Forum users are asked to make it clear if discussing a topic they have professional knowledge of that they work in that field (but do not tout for business). However, please do not give advice. This is particularly (but not only) relevant on the Pure Money, Health, Old Style, In My Home and Is It Fair? Boards.

Also please remember just because someone says they’re an IFA this doesn’t mean they are. As always, it is essential that you do your own research.

Frosty - Perhaps you need to change your first post to state that the advice is your personal opinion rather than implying it comes from DWP?

Frosty, perhaps you could cast some light on a couple of questions that i have been unable to receive positive answers to,although i have contacts in the dwp,in quite senior positions.

I have also approached several welfare rights advisors on other sites with the same result.

Firstly three people i know, who have been on ib since it was invalidity benefit and had pca and medicals when they were first introduced in 1995.........

Maybe the answer is their individual conditions and there is a flexible rule that means some will be looked at closer than others? Is there some reason why it is important?

  • Hi frosty_box I wouldnt let this person have the satisfaction of getting to you, I was PM'd over the citibank club, and it wasnt nice, if someone has something too say then be up front about it, and not do it behind a PM you coward, if I understand right, you've been told off by someone for giving "medical advice" am I right, I got a PM about telling someone to go see they gp about flu, but if thats the case then we fully understand but I would PM martin and ask him first, before acting on it, see what he has to say, your not giving us medical advice, your helping us understand the DWP whats so wrong about that, come you coward whoever you are PM me I dare you, then I can get you chucked off this site for being a complete s**t!!!!!.
Frosty I have PM'd martin and asked him to sort this out.
dont take any notice of them frosty, cw

I was really just interested in how these decisions are made i.e people now being sent an ib50 after many years, others hearing nothing. Some having similar illnesses, yet none of them ever being exempt.

Many views have been stated on other sites, one that everyone, even the exempt will have an ib50 every 5 years at least.Another that more ib50 forms are now being sent out ,than have been in the last few years and that the DWP have increased the staff levels in the ib section, while loosing staff in other depts., to do all these things.I was hoping frosty may have known some of the real facts.

One person on another site who said they worked in ib,said the main priority of the DWP at the moment was to get people off ib and that they even called one of the medical centers in their area lourdes,as people came in sick and went out fit for work.I assume this was their idea of a joke.
:) There are two sides to every story.

  • Hi Frosty_box just to say a big thankyou to you and my GP, I asked my GP on friday to do me another letter, she then said she would ring medical services herself, then after being given the run around by medical services since friday, following 4 phone calls, they have rang today, and said "due to your Gp getting in touch and our doctor reviewing your case it was decided that you would indeed get a home visit, but as a result of our doctor getting medical evidence from your GP you no longer have to have this visit, so disregard the letter when it comes and you will now be exempt from anymore medicals." thankyou so much, as this was going to be a problem, I did however ring round everyone I knew with a car, so that I could get to this medical, without having to go on the bus, which was going to be a nightmare, it was going to mean being out 5 hours on the buses just to go to this medical. so thankyou once again, and now all I have to do is concentrate on my health or lack of it, and try and get myself back to reasonable health, although what with whats happening inside my brain I dont think thats going to be for a long time, I have started having very servia nose bleeds, which keeps landing me in hospital for a spell, I know it always looks worse than it is, but I had to stay in hospital the other day for 24 hours so they could give me more blood, I am worried about this as my late mother died of a brain tumour and it started with the nose bleeds, so I am quite worried, thanks for all your help,

  • Hi frosty

can you help. I was sacked last June from IR due to my sick record, i have RSI from my job, anyway got IB as of August last year after a 4 month waiting for a tribunal which i won, i am getting short term higher rate, i also get lowest rate DLA, what has heppened is that my DH had an accident last year in work, and also a car accident in oct last year which made it worse, so he had to take lighter duties in his job, which resulted in lower wage, but the same hours working, I came out of hospital on Monday 19th Feb after having an arm operation whcih i hope will help me get rid of my RSI, and was wondering while i am getting better from the op, can i claim anything else, any help would be appreciated, also if DH claims working tax credit will it affect my IB?
  • Hi Frosty
    Thanks for starting this thread.
Please will you consider coming out of retirement, your knowledge and talent is sadly missed and much needed today more then ever.
I know from the other posts that you’ve been got at.

    Sorry everyone

I was just trying to be helpful, but got screwed over. (I thought Martins message was for us all to be nice to one another?!?) Even though I don't work for a certain department now, I allegedly have to respect a "EMP" thats nothing to do with me now!

If I were in all your shoes and on some subjects I am, I would so appreciate it if someone could give me the advice, honesty and support that I so desperately need. So with my hand on my heart, I'm sorry I can't give you any more adivce on this. Ask at your local offices for an IB1, it'll tell you everything I have anyway.

    Frosty

However please bear in mind that some people on this forum have their own vested interests, and like others in this lovely world that we live in take great pleasure in stopping people like you rocking the boat.
Was it only the private message you received that caused the problem? Or do you believe there are people from a more sinister source monitoring this thread? Especially since you’re not the only one that has been silenced

Sorry you won't be able to help any more, but thanks for all you've done. There was a guy on here a few months back who was very helpful and he suddenly disappeared too.....

    What's an EMP?
Maybe you could still help by referring people to specific documents, passages or information that’s already out in the public domain. That would surely not infringe your EMP.
There must have been many people who found your information very helpful. Unfortunately the information from the local IB office is often inadequate or wrong.

So please come back in some form to guide us all through this red tape.
