What should I do with cod?

  • Jamie Oliver did a fantastic cod recipe - sounds a little weird but tastes wonderful:

in a small baking tray/oven dish put cod fillets, a chopped avocado and a handful of basil, drizzle over some olive oil and a small pot of cream and top with cheddar cheese. bake in a medium oven for 20 mins. serve with a salad and new potatoes. :D

 Dont you cook it the same as you would an adult but mash it up a bit for the little one. :D

Can't you steam it or fry it or poach it?

For little one I would cook in a bit of milk and no more for the first time so she just enjoys new taste of fish. But for mum and dad i will leave to more experienced lovers of fish and how to cook it.

I used cows milk, it was only couple of tablespoons. I wrapped fish and milk in oven for few mins as i had oven on (trying to save money) but saucepan on low heat will do. Served with mash and peas all mixed together, well I liked it!!!

ok so a tiny bit of cows milk to poach the fish in, is it done in a small saucepan? or wrapped in foil in the oven?

I got the oven on doing baked spuds for mummy & daddys tea so could pop it in towards the end.

sorry if i sound a complete novice!!!

In the oven, then mixed with some of your baked spuds!!! Sounds good to me, I think served with peas or any other veg you are having sounds nice. I just tried to only bring one new taste at a time when weaning them. So use what ever milk they are used to.

Either make a foil parcel of it with the milk (put in another pan in case of leaks) or poach in a saucepan with milk, or steam over a saucepan of water & serve mashed/falked with a couple of tablespoons of milk, all will achieve the same thing, saucepan/steaming will probaby be a bit quicke at around 10 mins, or I'd give it about 20 mins in the oven then test to see if it's "flakey" in the middle, if not give it a bit longer (depends on thickness).

Let it cool after it's cooked and flake it with your fingers, just to make sure there are no little bones in any of it.
