My beautiful buddleia Black Knight that I paid a fortune for (tenner on ebay lol) is covered with white powdery mould and crumbling away. I think I'll need to cut it down0

Morning peoples, another wonderful day in the making here DH taken the limpy lurcher out for a short walk and then planning to go to the lottie to dig over the runner bean area before it gets tooooooo hot. The plants are up and ready to go so we will need to get them in the ground asap.MAR - my Buddleia was very cheap. It was a self seed 4 stories up on my DD1s balcony - I don't know that it has a name but it does attract in the wildlife. PAH - Aphids are greenfly also applies to blackfly too ! Our new goosberry bushes are all in leaf now, think yours may be a casualty, you could try giving it a hefty pruning to see if that sparks it into life. The bits you pinch out on tomatoes grow between the main stalk of the plant and the leaf stalk growing from it, they start out at the junction of the two, you'll see a small stalk with small leaves, they just need pinching out with your fingers. They don't damage the plant but it uses energy to grow them that should go into making you some more nice tomatoes. I find that late tomatoes will ripen if they are picked and left on a sunny windowsill, sometimes if we have many green ones that aren't ripening we take off the leaves from most of the plant and that seems to help, but not always. KITTIE - haven't got rust on the garlic but, nearly all of our red onions have gone up to flower heads. Will have to harvest and freeze I think. Have a good day all Cheers Lyn.0

mrs lw, I picked early last year and saute`ed onions in olive oil. Took up much less space in the freezer
Have done the deed and just left 25 garlic in a different bed, different type and look better so all fingers crossed but whatever, I`ll have to buy bulbs in next year. I had to go up there as was still too many plants in small pots here waiting to go out and can`t cope with the watering. 2 squashes now out plus a marrow as 5 courgettes already up there are doing very well but all under net shade. Half my french beans have gone out, early but I have spares of anything precious. Also nasturtiums, poached egg plant etc. Got really hot up there so am glad to be in now. 29+ in garden in the shade and 23 in with 2 fans on full pelt.
Dh away for 3 nights so easy time, re food, ahead for a few days0 -
Thanks KITTIE that is a really good idea which I will poach if I may. We are also very hot at the moment but are lucky enough to have a very pleasant coastal breeze which is keeping it bearable. Enjoy your few days on your own, I am always pleased to see my DH back, but it's quite nice to have some me time as well! Cheers Lyn x.0

pah, re gooseberry, scrape with finger nail on a couple of places on central stem. If green then there is still hope but if brown then plant is dead
I forgot but important re hay fever/allergies etc. Pollen is v high so best not to dry any washing outside and make everyone take showers before bed including hair and clothes straight into wash, will help a lot with symptoms. Could very well be a terrible season this year
If walking near rapeseed than take extreme care, several village people have been stung by bees hell bent on getting rapeseed pollen. Path runs between field and beehives (some distance away). The bees seem to be quite aggressive and some people have had several stings at one time0 -
Thanks for the advice will pop out soon and check gooseberry. We still have hot sunny weather but all week there has been a wind that was chilly but not strong, but today wind has turned warm but much stronger, a few gusts have rattled the windows and some bins have been blown over, don't think I have ever seen a hot gale force wind before this is a firstNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Evening all
Sorry to hear about your hubby FTM - hope things improve quickly and he doesn't have too much pain.
MrsLW - I do hope you four legged family member is on the mend soon.
Kaz - glad DD is getting better and I'm envious of your knitting. Despite my late grandmother's best efforts it isn't one of my strongest skills.
At last I can say "What a beautiful sunny day we had today". All set to continue tomorrow and Sunday as well - what more could I wish for! I took all my tomatoes and the mini propagators with beetroot, cabbage and carrots and put them outside all day. It was quite windy though so I had to find a sheltered spot.
The lettuce seeds have been planted in the cold frame. I eat lots of lettuce so fingers crossed they do well.
Had a visit to Asda today where they were selling off Countrylife butter at 98p - it was August dated so I bought 4 packs and will freeze them. I also picked up another of the 2 Lurpaks with the free brownie tin. I will give it to my elderly neighbour who was telling me recently that she was short on baking tins.
Also had a trip to B&Q to pick up a cheap rotary dryer earlier. After the old one snapped a few weeks back I thought I could manage until hubby gets the washing poles up for my line however I think that's a few weeks off so I had to get something in the meantime. I just can't have good weather and use the tumble dryer - breaks my heart and such a waste of electricity.
Have a good weekend all - I may be back at some point.:)0
