at last!! some sun, for a few days at least so it is going to be a scramble to get the last of the sowing and planting sorted.

I am lifting some shallots that have produced flower buds, which we ate. Those shallots won`t keep but they will be lovely and sweet and do freeze fine. Not many so it won`t be overwhelming in the freezer

Marrow goes in the ground today yes that one bush baby did produce a lot of marrows last year but I have a cupboard full of assorted marrow (and whatever) chutneys and jams. The one this year will produce marrows for stuffing or dehydrating as it is a good veg for carbo free cooking and I am liking the dehydrated version

I`ll be giving the transplanted brassicas, celeries etc a foliar feed as I want bigger plants to put out or they`ll have no chance against the slugs. They are ok now but I want thicker stems and taller plants

I have made a monthly order for a small organic meat box, it will also free up freezer space. Perhaps I`ll get the last remaining fish in the freezer sorted this week and I`ll source some online fish like I used to do. So one fish drawer and one meat drawer and that beats the higgledy piggledy mess I get into

I bottled the last batch of hm sauerkraut yesterday, 3 crammed 1 litre kilner jars holding 3 big big white home grown cabbages. Lovely stuff too but I wouldn`t make it without my special crock. That is sauerkraut making all finished until autumn now. Dh sawed the end off a granite rolling pin and it makes a fantastic basher

Am debating whether to take the plunge and get the flannels off the bed to be replaced with smooth cool cotton sheets. Decisions decisions

As we have sun and warmth at last I went out and uncovered everything from their fleeces. Am pleased as everything has grown, not much but carrot leaves were 2ins when I put them in two weeks ago and are now around 4- 5ins. Some of the lettuce is almost ready to have some leaves taken - in fact one could be used today but still have some bought lettuce in so will leave it to grow. Tomatoes, cucumbers, beans etc that I have in the grow house seem to like it in there and have all grown a tiny bit - well better a cm grown then dying off. It is never warm enough really here for cucumbers or courgettes to go out but tomatoes can and my beans but think will leave them where they are for a bit, see how weather goes.

  • Hello FTM - I was wondering how your poorlies were getting on, had hoped they would all be better by now. Poor old DH and DS hope they mend quickly now we are likely to have some better weather, that should see off all the nasty bugs. Glad you and the tots are OK now. Your garden sounds to be growing on fantastically well, we are now harvesting from the polytunnel and have peas, radishes, lettuce and mixed salad leaves ready. New potatoes in there looking good too. KAZ - haven't heard from you lately and am hoping your Poor DD is feeling much better now, and the break is healing well. Thinking of you Cheers Lyn x.
  • We have just had a swarm of bees!!!!! We were sitting out in the garden having coffee after lunch when we heard the buzzing and the next minute they were everywhere so we ran indoors pretty quickly. They have gone down in a neighbours front garden, terrifying the poor postman who was walking up the road at that moment. DH went over to the beekeepers house opposite, they don't think thier bees have swarmed but are keen for a free swarm if they can find another hive. Don't think pollination will be problematic this year!

ooh, bargain! I've seen them for £30 for 6 before now:eek:
Hope the men in your house get better soon.

Mrs L: a beekeeper opposite? oh fab! Let's hope they're amiable bees as one of my colleagues had a "nice" swarm in one hive and a "stroppy" swarm in the other:D

  • As long as they pollinate everything they can be whoever they are - they still haven't settled completely in the bush and every now and then they swirl around like confetti - I'm sure the beekeeper will be able to 'tame' them and when they are settled in a hive they will be OK! Poor postman though, you should have seen his face but, he was alright, and didn't get stung so I don't think they are very agressive or he would have been!

Evening..MLW a swarm of bee's ..wow..i have only seen one and i was ducking for cover at the time as they flew en masse over my garden..i am a coward and dived for cover lol..just had a swarm of my own..well actually the MOD own this particular swarm ..typhoons flying low and at speed around our town..several of them and for a good 20 minutes..woke up the tots..grrr!!!..bloody things..

Shortbird...yes i was mighty pleased with my bargain..it was only when i got home and checked i realized what a real bargain it was..they have taken pride of place in my little collection.

Thanks for the good wishes regarding the men in the house..son seems to be better after a good sleep today...hubby went to sleep too..me and iris made ourselves scarce and retreated to the kitchen..hopefully he will feel a bit better tomorrow and not remind me every 5 minutes he feels poorly lol..

  • Morning FTM - I think I prefer my swarm of bees to a swarm of Typhoons. I am having to actively prevent DH from 'just going up to see if they're still in the bush '. He is allergic to bee stings and supposed to carry an epipen in case of annaphilactic shock but, being a true male of the species doesn't think it will happen! Will have to keep him occupied today or keep an eye on him all the time, bit like a toddler really - you know the feeling!!!!!!! Glad your DS is feeling a bit better and hope that your DH does soon as well. Its a beautiful morning, hope yours is too - enjoy Cheers Lyn x.

Morning all..what a beautiful day..already i have got all the washing out, done all the cleaning and cut the grass..o and fed the chickens and cleaned them out..lol..
Hubby is much better and son is vastly improved..patience is a virtue as they say and mine is being tested to the limit...
O and i stand corrected it wasn't typhoons..but tornados flying around..to me a plane is a plane but obviously not to the plane experts living in the house lmao...
O MLW..your poor hubby being allergic to bee stings is awful..and he should really carry his pen with him...
Had a great idea last night as i was going to sleep..we cant afford the wood for my kitchen shelves for a little while especially if hubby can't go into work for a few more days..i borrowed a little shelf unit out the spare room to put in the kitchen..its got all my pans on it and my baking stuff..it actually looks good in there..even hubby and son approve..despite the fact its painted pale pink..so i think its staying put..i also had a bingo moment they don't happen often but i had one...when i made my goulash i only needed a quarter pint of tomato juice..and had a lot left in the carton..so i measured out quarter pints and poured it into ice cube bags..got 6 ..so next time i make goulash i can just defrost a bag and i have it..probably not much of a tip but its all mine lol..
right i'm off to go in the garden and do some work..
    love to you all
