omg, what a day sm, kaz do you have any arnica in the house? Your dd is a stoic little girl and I know that a broken bone hurts a lot. Ftm, I hope your family are all on the mend now, they could do with some sun and so could you. Life is like that, it goes along smoothly and we are happy then wham, it gets turned upside down

Me, I am keeping my head down, I don`t like the nasty twists when they happen

Yesterday, sun almost all day so had to do final pottings. I have a lot of (quite expensive) growtubs and started collecting them 6 years ago, now have 21 and enough. All my peppers, chillis, cucumbers and left over tomato plants are now tucked in for the growing season. Rain yet again and cold at night so in and out with tender plants yet again. I hope to goodness that june will be nice, I`ll probably get some idea around 17th may. Lol, I saw a neighbour unrolling a sodden family tent out in his garage, tbh I am more than content at home and love pottering when I can get outside for a few hours

We had dgd overnight, just 4 years old. Dh and I do cringe when we see how spoilt she is, she gets everything she wants from her parents and is their little princess. She is lovely and clever too but you should see her play act to her parents, not to us because our boundaries are just that. I can see them setting up a whole stack of trouble for later. Think shirley temple looks and good manners, old ladies are always stopping to talk to her but it won`t just be old ladies later in life. I feel that she is being suffocated by a very caring and well meaning daddy but I zip my mouth.

It is the other two that are going to aus, The bright, lively two who always share with others. Oh well, we can but teach when we have her

    Hi all...
Kaz..you little one sounds so snug and comfy in that big bed..nice to curl up when a bit poorly..hope she is sok today..
SM..wow you had a bad day but you survived..hugs coming you way ((()))..
MLW..thank you..i am glad you had a great weekend with your dd and her chap..nice to have family around us..
Kittie..hmmm..i know exactly what you mean about the"little princess" syndrome..my 2 GD's suffer terribly from this lol..always being a madam..but in subtle ways..maybe its because i have 5 girls i spot the signs..and then thoroughly squash any idea of being spoilt rotten..don't get me wrong i am no ogre and basically a softie but i have a line that no-one crosses and that goes for GD's too...i love them terribly but i will not have a brat in my house..my older girls know this and i can see them looking worried when they start the playing up to me and grandad..but so far i have only had to give the look and they have behaved lol..they still love coming to our house for playdates and tea partys with their granny and grandad 2 aunties and uncle..lol omg when you write it down i seem jeremy kyleish..but i'm not honest...
Right i'm off to have fish fingers for lunch..still running down freezer..
    love to you all

Mmmm, this greece thing is going from bad to worse, could all end up like dominos for all of us. Massive sell off in stock market and am so glad I re-positioned dh`s pension portfolio. Be aware everyone, could be a scary time ahead.

my peace of mind is disturbed and I lay awake for a long time and then dozed fitfully, always with the same dreams going through my mind. It was about a shortage of grown food, it is obviously getting to me re the very cold weather and the lack of growth on the allotment. My veg are doing very poorly and it may well be a very short summer, so not much of a chance re veg production and I live in a bread basket county

I always keep a good store of food in but have been running it down, not any more. I am topping up during the next few weeks. I think my dreams were telling me something

  • KITTIE - I hate the thought of you being worried about all this to the point of not sleeping. You of all of us have enough skills and entrepreneurship to make the right decisions to ensure a good standard of life. You can be very innovative i.e the lactic fermentation experiment last year, and the dehydrating and all the other preservation methods you could teach us a thing or two about as well. If the situation becomes worrisome, you will know what is around in the wild and you will be prepared, the future is uncertain but you aren't, you are strong, you'll be OK. We're all in this together and here for one another as support. We'll all be fine because we have the ability to think outside the box, and we'll manage whatever life throws at us because we are resourceful people. Especially you, keep up the good work Cheers Lyn x.

Well i have been ruthless since sunday..i have de-cluttered the girls room, sons room and the kitchen bits all got sorted to day..most went to the charity shops with some being distributed to various dd's..lol..hubby was looking at what i was doing and asking don't you need that..my heart was saying yes but my head said no..so out it went...
I did have a splurge on *bay and got the girls a new canopy, rug and clock..all disney ones and in great condition for £5.99..already had one canopy so now we have 2..they are so excited to go to bed tonight ..
Hubby has just informed me that as soon as kitchen is done the spare room is next..as our son wants to go in there..its a bit bigger but painted lilac and pale pink..not colours that suit him i think..so that needs sorting too..not much in there really..
I spent most of yesterday in the garden as it was nice..i have tidied everywhere and put patio table and chairs away..not much point having them out really...
I have been thinking about signing fern up to the young archaeologists club with the national trust..she is into all that stuff bless her..and they meet once a month..just have to ring to check ages..hope she can go ..i think she would love it...
I am seriously running down my food stocks so i can restock..have been talking to my friend and she cooks a lovely lasagne and i do a mean goulash..so we have agreed to swap a few portions with each other..which will be nice..also had to do an egg giveaway..went to school with a couple of boxes and just gave them away..we had far too many and i don't want them to go off..so free eggs day it was...
right its bath time again and i really can't wait to get into it myself..then read my book with a nice hot choclate when tots are in bed...
    love you all..

I think I worried for society, all the folks who can hardly afford food now. Even the cabbages are not growing and potatoes are at a standstill and this morning we were putting food packets into our village collection for the food banks. I don`t worry for me but I do feel anxious for the people who are already finding living to be very tough indeed. No end in sight yet

I understand what you mean Kittie. The posters here are the most resourceful people I know and could handle just about anything that's thrown at them - I'm not so sure about most of the rest of the population.

I have a Greek friend now living in the UK who is appalled at what has happened in his home country but says the denial amongst people back there is really shocking. He has always said they exist in a little bubble with no concept of the outside world. Looks like he was right:(

FTM - I tidied the garage last night and have actually moved some patio furniture to the back and covered the barbeque - I don't honestly see either being used this year. What a depressing thought.
