kaz, you`re dd will love being a celebrity today and her friends will be very protective of her. She will love the attention and she will come home a smiley little bunny
The rest of our kale was pulled up yesterday, 3 starbor and one red russian stuffed into a 6 sq` 2 foot tall raised bed in the garden. I used to hate kale until late last year, it used to be tough like cattle food but the varieties you can get today are so different and very very nice. I think that would be our dessert island choice as it withstands sodden ground and baking heat and shrugs off the cabbage while butterfly. The starbor roots were small and I had to tug the red russian, so starbor is my choice for a different bed (rotation) this summer and it will stand there for 9 months. I`ll be putting 6 starbor in and leave the red russian for the allotment. I`ll even be able to squeeze a few marigolds in as companions. That was yesterday and today I stripped the stalks and steamed them in my large powerful magimix steamer, 4 minutes. Then I cooled in a draughty shed and now bagged and in the freezer, 10 meals in all. It smells and looks lovely and will be perfect in all sorts of ways. There is plenty of time to sow the seeds if you fancy growing it. It will also grow well in planters and rolled-down bags
It is another horrible pishing day today and we are in a flood county, you can see the low level fields are covered in water. Tbh, coping with the rain and cold is another angle to gardening, we gardeners just have to be versatile. I have some growtubs so potted up 6 assorted chilli plants yesterday and they are going outside on the verandah, out of the rain and they will be brought in on saturday and sunday night. I am also going to bring in my spare tomatoes and chillis just in case my fleece coverings aren`t enough
I bet there are some good bargains in summer clothing this year, I must be fairly typical in not even getting my summer clothes out of their storage boxes
I`m just about to get a few bits of food together now as the village are clubbing together to donate to a food bank. I`m not putting any fancy stuff in just good hearty basics like pasta0 -
Afternoon all..hope your all ok..
Kaz your littlie is going to be worn out when she gets home..being a star is hardwork lol..
MLW thanks babe (((hug)))...
Well today is my GS 2nd birthday..we have been up and got soaked going and then soaked on way home...he was having a whale of a time ..was lovely to see him and my little leah GD..she is coming for the day next week..that will be fun..
And my son sam is poorly..he got up with a terrible earache..he has got infection in both ears..he has been to doctor and got some very strong antibiotics..he is sat in the chair not moving and not talking so i know he is poorly...
Hubby is still poorly too..coughing,snotty and feeling the cold which is not like him at all..fern is coming down with something too and so is iris..so in the sea of sickness surrounding me i am not ill(yet)..and won't be until they are all well lol...
We went to town and got anice surprise in wilkinsons..the paints we bought for the cupboards and tiles were discounted and instead of £40 we got them for £32..so bingo..bargain.
I then popped into B&M and got some new bathroom scales for £1.99..and they are cute..little ducks all over them..
I have had to give a dozen eggs away this week as i have too many..
Kittie i wonder if my local food bank would accept fresh eggs..will ring and find out..i have in the past donated to them..and will do again..
hope your all well and not getting wet and cold
take care all

KAZ hope your DD has a good day at school and is feeling much more normal by now, still a shock to the family system though isn't it? KITTIE it's another wet day down here too, just had a visit from our 80 year old pal who has the allotment next to ours and he's worried about onions and garlic both of which he planted out last week and he says they are yellow and waterlogged - doesn't think they will make it . I'm beginning to wonder what sort of a crop we'll get of anything this year although the polytunnel looks fine and things are beginning to grow on in there. Our local paper had an article yesterday saying that the use of food banks has more than doubled here - things are getting tighter for us all aren't they. Cheers Lyn.0

FTM - just saw your post as I posted mine - happy birthday to your little grandson hope he has a lovely day. Sorry to hear your nearest and dearest are all poorly and hope they feel better very quickly and that you don't get it as well. Congrats on reduced price paint can only be to the good. If you have surplus eggs, would you like them pickled, it's so easy to do and they keep ages - but only if you like pickled eggs!!!!!!0

A busy day today, I remembered, in my sleep, about the 3 x 12 m of 30g fleece that arrived last week so I set to before breakfast and cut 3 x 10 foot lengths for my spuds on the allotment, so they are ok now and covered in a double layer. Then I sowed 6 double rectangles with a slit, to go around each cane and to cover each tomato plant sitting in the growbags under pop ups. They have bubble wrap on top tonight and may also have fleece tomorrow and maybe a bottle of water, which is supposed to help. Anyway everything vulnerable is now as sheltered as possible and bottles of water are warming in the utility room
Then I put my share trading/pension management hat on, after getting lunch. Sold HOME that is the argos group, which looks dire and also a couple of other cyclical shares and then I bought some defensives ie SBRY (sainsbury) and SVT (severn trent) and a fun trading one EMG (man group hedge fund). It is called portfolio rebalancing and I do it to safeguard my dh`s pension which I started managing 6 years ago, after sacking the ifa because I knew I could do the job better. The ifa who would have charged a huge amount and knew ziltch about the stock market and who wanted to put pension money into risky hedge funds
All broccoli plants are now cleared and chopped on the compost heap and tomorrow I will clear the bed and re-net the hoops ready for carrots and the like. I am determined to start being sensible about what I squeeze in the beds, I mean a 5 cm tundra cabbage seedling grows into a monster with a 3` spread, last year I planted 6 in an 8 x 4 ` bed plus 4 red cabbages. They ended up great but it was hard keeping them protected against caterpillars. I will plant my minicole instead of the 6 tundra that are looking so healthy in the roottrainers. I have to keep telling this to myself or I`ll succumb0 -
Kittie you're causing me serious veg garden envy:rotfl:
I think I may risk sowing some seeds this weekend, despite all the frost predictions. At this rate it'll be winter again and all I'll have to show for it is weeds :eek:0 -
Morning all, it's another cold and grey day here in Hampshire and trying to rain again. Yesterday was a landmark day as my 'New' kitchen, started in February last year finally was finished by the installation of a new wall mounted table for me to sit and work at. I'm so pleased to have the work finished at long last! I'll now admit to FTM that the colour on the walls is her Willow Green and the wood is light coloured so it is a lovely light calm room (until I go in)(then it's a manic mess!). We are so far behind with the planting outside as the ground is still waterlogged, even at the top of the slope on the allotment - the poor apple trees in the front garden are still only just showing leaf buds everything seems to have come to a standstill. Is anyone else further ahead? I know you are planting out when you can KITTIE is anything growing on where you are, or just waiting for some warmth? Hope everyone has a good Bank Holiday weekend and stays warm and dry Cheers, Lyn x.0

Your new kitchen sounds beautiful. Will you be posting some pics to inspire those of us trying to conquer CBA and start decorating?
Another planting setback here. Got up to bright sunshine, and now we've got a hailstorm :eek:
So if I do sow any seeds it'll be indoors. But then they always seem to get damping off mould before I can plant out
Can anyone spare some sun ... please ...

Morning..
MLW..see i knew we both had good taste..your kitchen sounds wonderful..slightly envious here..as mine is still a work in progress...but today i am sugar soaping the cupboards ready to be painted and then the tiles are being done tomorrow..i have just ordered some new sink taps as our leak like a sieve and we have fixed them twice now..so new taps..i have my floor tiles on order and a new lampshade..thats got teapots all over it or a cupcakes depends how i feel when i buy it...also as we have a huge wall near the door that if we paper the kids catch it and rip and it always looks a mess..i have found a huge mural for it..a big tree with leaves all over and little birds..might be childish but i just need something to cover the area and look bright and cheerful too....i will post pics when its all done
We have bright sunshine here but the garden is totally water logged..i sank in it when i went to let the chooks out...on the other hand our spuds in bags are doing great and the strawberries we put in are doing well...my fruit bushes have lots and lots of fruit growing on them..so if all else fails i will fruit to eat lol...my salad bed is doing well now its covered over..bloody sparrows..much as i love them they can get off my salads...defo going to get a polytunnel and then it doesn't matter how much it rains..
My son is doing fine now..the antibiotics have kicked in..tots are brilliant and hubby is still poorly..he is so chesty and snotty..am making him go to the doctors on tuesday its going on too long to be a virus..he hardly sleeps and looks tired..in 25yrs of marriage i have never seen him look so ill...
I have antibiotics from the dentist..my cap was sore..even thought it shouldn't hurt it did..it seems i have a slight infection in my gum..also my little plate with 2 false teeth on it broke whilst he was looking at it..i was so upset..but he is going to replace it for free for me...just got to remember not to smile or i look like a hillbilly....
right i'm off to finish prepping lunch and have a cuddle with hubby..
love to you all

Morning, another soggy grey day, but what else do I expect ? We are still using the woodburner every evening and it is MAY, It's so chilly and dreary down here I do so wish Spring would finally arrive! ROSETTA - I will try to post a piccie of the kitchen when I have found all the bits and bods to finish it off - need to accessorise a bit and have decided that red is the way to go, I'll think I'm in someone elses house!!!!!! FTM - glad your DS is responding to his medication, hope DH feels better soon and that your poorly sorely gum is better today. We have actually got pods on the peas in the polytunnel so at least something to harvest later and we now have 4 early potatoes up in there too - if you have room for one I would say go for it - if we are going to have odd weather like this often the poly will be of great help in feeding you all. Todays job is trying to find a new combined chicken run and house as we have finally agreed where it is going to be sited in the garden - I'm so looking forward to having some girls again, the only worry is whether the lurcher can be persuaded that they are not for chasing - we'll see! Have a good day all Cheers Lyn x.0
