  • Thanks for the info Kittie - prepared is better than not any day in my book. Think we will put in lots more leeks and parsnips along with beetroot, onions and assorted brassicas - Kale is a must and Purple Sprouting Broccoli too. In the polytunnel we are planning to overwinter lots of mixed oriental greens such as mizuna, various mustards and chinese cabbages which will serve both for salads and stir frys that should see us ok with all the preserving, freezing and bottling I shall be doing. Thanks for your continued weather news much appreciated. Cheers Lyn.

Kittie Thanks for the weather. Explains why I got caught in a hailstorm yesterday:eek:

Mrs LW your planting plans are very impressive. I've been holding off getting started as we get late frosts here and seedlings in the house have got too leggy in previous years before I could plant them out. Am thinking its nearly time to get started though.

Torrential rain here just now, and cold, so I may have to give in and put the heating on.:( Still my Mum always told me "you're not made of sugar so you'll not melt" so some gardening in the rain may be on the agenda later today.

  • Hi ROSETTA - we're lucky to be down in the soft south but, we have had our fair share of torrential rain and hail down here too. We currently have 1.6 tons of water stored in the collective water containers and are awash in the pond and soggy in the ground so I don't see us planting out just yet. Luckily our allotment is on a slope so we will be able to plant out from the top down and leave the soggy bottom for runner beans and pumpkins. The wind here has been horrendous today and the lurcher and I with our friend and her retriever Charlie had a couple of places on our walk where we just could not walk into it because it was so fierce. I hope we get some kinder weather soon all over the country but, I'm not holding my breath! Cheers Lyn and the lurcher.

Oh heck, we have a we have a weather warning for sunday. Heavy/torrential rain and 50-60 mph gusts. I`m going to get more ballast into large buckets and put them in my patio grows, on the base bars. Slate from the ground, which I can put back afterwards

We had a lovely respite this morning and I managed to erect a net cage on the allotment. I was very happy to get cabbages and caulies safely into the ground. Hispi(quick pointy cabbage), nemo (small cauli) clapton (normal cauli). Dd is coming tomorrow and I am offloading several good plants. I am running out of space. Tbh, If this weather continues then some plants won`t be worth growing
  • Morning all, pleased to report that common sense has prevailed and DD1s D of E event has been called off due to the weather forecast which is horrendous. They were due to walk some deep valleys which are prone to flooding and with structuraly damaging winds possible they were at risk on the campsite too as there are big trees all around - and in full leaf they are likely to be damaged as well - so all has been deferred - much better. We are wet again today and disparing of being able to get on the ground to plant out anything. DH put some onion sets in during the week but hasn't been able to get back to the lottie as it has been so wet. We are having success in the polytunnel however and now have three potato plants up (put in as an experiment) these were only planted a week ago so it seems to be a really good investment. The asparagus bed is now putting up many shoots and we have 16 out of 20 plants showing noses above ground. The new apple trees are tipping green too and the fig tree has embryonic leaves so not doing too badly despite the weather. Have a good weekend Cheers Lyn.

Hello..:wave:how are you all? well i hope..

I have had a really awful week with one thing and another and took to hiding myself away to lick my wounds..flaming family:mad:..they certainly know where to hit..so it hurts the most and not leave a bruise..won't go into details but i am outcast from my parents, brothers etc..about time too..i will be ok i have my lovely little family to rely on..
Also i have had words with the school...fern has had tonsilitis and hasn't been able to go..so i got a phone call..saying that she had missed an awful lot of her schooling..my response and remember i have had a carp week was "well if parents didn't send them when they are poorly then my fern wouldn't keep catching it and being off..."..he wants a meeting with me :mad:fine..i'll let him know exactly what he can do,where he can go and exactly how he is going to get there..ie f*k off with my foot up your ar*e..sorry but i am sick and tired of being a doormat at times:D..so home schooling is defo on the cards.

Well its done nothing but rain all week here..got weather warnings and all sorts..my water barrels are totally full and about to burst so is my pond..
We have put new fruits in and they are loving the rain:rotfl:about the only thing that is:cool:..our greenhouse is full to bursting with plants that need going in the garden but its too wet to do it...

The kitchen is coming on nicely..we have removed 2 top cupboards and 2 base units and already it looks so much bigger..my de-clutter went very well...nice and simple now thats how it is and thats how its staying...
Just got to decide on the colour..i like the dulux willow green nice and calm and washable:rotfl:.yeh right..we have tiled the bits that needed it and i have decided to paint them a calico and do the cupboards porcelain..both are quick drying(they need to be).so thats on the agenda for next week..

I went to the carboot last week..it was lovely..i got 2 pairs fo jeans for £1..bargain and they washed up well and fit me nicely..i got a lovely cashmere lilac jumper for £1..and 2 long sleeves shirts for £1 as well..i found a lovely lady selling her childrens old books...rupert the bear and enid blyton and beatrix potter..i almost wiped her out..couldn't carry them all..and had to go put them in the car...me and tots have been reading one a day and still have a box to go...

  • Hello FTM - glad to hear from you and sorry for all the problems you are currently dealing with. They say you can choose your friends but family is given you and how true that is! You are a lovely strong little family unit - you've got each other, thats all that really matters, keep your pecker up. Sorry to hear that Fern has been poorly again, my eldest was always off with sore throats and chest infections but she made it to university in the end - the school should really be more supportive. I am also fed up with the incessant rain and wind, it makes me restless being cooped up indoors and not being able to get on with all the outside jobs that need doing still, I expect it will go eventually. Well done getting the kitchen sorted out it is the place I spend most of my time so it is nice if it is how you want it to be. And well found with the childrens books loved by mine when they were little. Have a good Sunday, thinking of you Cheers Lyn x.

Oh guys, I had a phone call from DD's school on Friday morning. Fallen and hurt herself ambulance on it's way. We have spent the whole time since then at Bristol children's hospital (fantastic place) and she had an op on her very badly broken arm done yesterday. She's home and safe now after a hideous time with masses of morphine. Feel sick every time I think of her arm. I'm so proud of her, she was so very, very brave.
Needless to say, my birthday didn't happen. Never mind, I get to be 33 for another year!
It wasn't until I was sitting in the ED at Bristol that I realised that I only had my coat and my phone. The only reason I had my phone is that they rang me on my mobile and I went running out the front door. I still had my coat on which had car keys in the pocket. I already had shoes on too. If I'd been in bed then I'd have gone running out in pyjamas.
Am so proud of her. Avoiding going to bed because I keep seeing her arm. Also, want to be awake in case she calls out :(

  • Poor little thing KAZ I do so hope you are both feeling better this morning. Littlies do however seem to mend so incredibly fast so I'm sure she'll be bouncing about in no time, which will worry the life out of you but make you feel so much better at the same time! HAPPY BIRTHDAY somewhat belatedly but there's you to think of too. Hope that today is a nice calm, peaceful and sunny one for you both. Keep yourselves safe Cheers Lyn and the Lurcher (P.S. He sends you both a big likky slurp!!!!!)
