  • Hello FTM and VJsMUM - we are so busy with the garden, polytunnel and allotment during the spring/summer that we just don't have time to take the tent away. It seems a shame to have it sitting out in the garden when someone would get the use from it. FTM - glad Fern is better today, shame about your brothers wedding being disrupted but I still think you did the right thing, Lyn x.

We have another glorious day here as well.

Spent most of yesterday sat on the new to us decking which Dh was given, he, DS1 and DS2 installed it on Friday night after giving the wood a couple of coats of wood stain paint. It will be given a proper decking sealant later on.

I've got a bread loaf in the BM and a marble cake in the oven, as with hollow legged teen boys the cake box can't be empty.

It will be salad again tonight for dinner for us with egg or cheese or I might even make a quiche, I'll do jacket potatoes to go with it.

FTM its a shame about the wedding, your brother should definitely be getting some money back, the venue are very lucky no-one got heat stroke or similar.

Kittie I think it was on here you mentioned about "rust" in the garlic, I checked mine after reading and found mine was also suffering so pulled and processed it all Sat night well over 100 cloves later it was done; the annoying thing was some had been in the ground for 2 years and had formed some really nice big bulbs which would have been great when lifted later in the year.

Right need to sort ready for work.

    Have a lovely day everyone

  • Hello, I am having a day on my own as DH has gone fishing. Have walked the lurcher and it is lovely out there today, not too hot and with a gentle breeze. I have just made a breakfast smoothie with some frozen grapes, raspberries and blueberries and a little bit of plain yoghurt and some orange juice. It was like a thick frozen milkshake mmmmmmmmm!! I am going to have a big tidy up as it is looking messy indoors, thats the problem with all this nice weather isn't it? You spend so much time out you don't see in. A little bit of ironing to sort out too but that's OK I don't mind ironing. I am off to visit DD1 over the weekend as the Choral Society are putting on a Diamond Jubilee Concert in the Cathedral on Saturday evening which should be very nice. Have a good day everyone Cheers Lyn.

It's cool and misty here Mrs L, saying 12C. Am enjoying a sofa day so not fussy.
  • Hey MAR - hope the sofa day is being enjoyed, we are currently over 25 degrees so too hot for the boy to go out yet. He's been on the landing most of the day as it's the coolest place in the house. We'll take him down to the river at 7 ish this evening and perhaps he'll get a paddle, which he loves. Hope you are feeling a bit better these days as I know you've had a bit of a rough time healthwise of late. OH says the biggest fish got away
Oh yeah, and I DO believe him , really!!!!!!!!

Well i have good and bad news
Good news..my lovely hubby has just rang and he has been offered full-time hours at work..yay finally...it means a small pay rise and he is home at 6 every night
Bad news..fern is still very poorly...went back to doctors this morning and it seems the runny poo she has had is a direct result of the anti-biotics..so he gave me some different ones..fingers crossed these work..she is still coughing like a fog horn and has been sick twice with it..
So thats my news good and bad....
I have spent last 2 days making patch work blankets for the tots with all my fabric samples..iris's is made up of samples from harlequin..and ferns is made from CK samples shhh..don't tell anyone...i even have enough lovely samples in a sail boat and sea-side theme in lovely pale blue's and greens to make my son one..i showed him it and he was very pleased with it, i hope he is or he is just saying it to make his mum happy...;)...
Have just spent the last half an hour picking up a million and 1 sequins that iris dropped...well at least my carpet will sparkle...
    right got to go bathtime
o and by the way its been lovely here today..thermometer says 25..but its breezy and a bit cloudy..we are lookking forward to a storm saddo eh?
    love to you all

  • Evening FTM -such good news about your DHs job, thats super and so nice to be able to get him back for the evenings, really lovely for you all. Sorry to hear that poor Fern is still so poorly, it sometimes does take a couple of different anti-biotics to see these horrid infections off. My DH had a humdinger of a reaction to penicillin a few years back and was really poorly and so spotty he looked like a dalmation. But the second one he was given worked really quickly. Lets hope that is how it is for Fern. Your patchwork sounds beautiful, you clever lady you! Just walked the pup as it's so much cooler than it was but I think it will be a sticky night so we might not sleep too well. Hugs all round, specially to Fern. Cheers Lyn x.

FTM - that's great news about hubby. I'm really pleased for you, it's about time you had some luck. Maybe the luck will spread to Fern. I'm another one who is allergic to penicillin so it can be trial and error if I need antibiotics. Hope she is better soon.

It's much cooler up here now - I'm not too bothered although I do see that my lawns are absolutely covered in buttercups which is maddening as I mowed them on Sunday and it's not even mid week yet.

I put my tomato babies in the mini greenhouses at the weekend and I think it was a very bad idea. The mini greenhouses are plastic and I think the heat build up has been too great. I can't unzip the front much as it's so windy here they would take off and I suspect that is the problem. 60% of them are very sick so I've taken the sick ones out and will keep them outside and see what happens. I really didn't want to grow them outside as it is so changeable here but I feel better to take my chances than have them die after another day in the plastic sauna.

My onions have appeared above ground and the strawberry plants are looking healthy. Hubby is amazed at how much watering everything needs just as well there is no hosepipe ban here:)

FTM - your patchwork quilts sound lovely - quilting on my list of things to learn to do. We've visited lots of Amish and Mennonite communities on our travels and they make the most amazing quilts. It takes a lot of willpower not to buy one every time I see them.

Hope the weather is more bearable for you all tomorrow - I think we may have some rain at our end of the country.

  • Hello SM, HELLO TOMATO BABIES!!! Our tomato babies are split between the polytunnel and the greenhouse. We had a few left over so put some in an outside bed and I think it has been a bit too hot for the outside ones, they are curling brown leaves up so don't know if they will survive. The other crop suffering is the strawberries, we had our patio doors replaced last year and DH said oh, just the thing to keep the strawberry bed safe from the birds. I don't think he realised just how hot they got, but think the plants have suffered greatly. We may have lost them, shame. Looks as though the really hot weather will depart fairly soon but in all honesty we need the showers. It was nice while it lasted Cheers Lyn.
