Evening all, just popping in to say hello. Can't describe how busy work is and there was no respite at the weekend as my parents needed help bringing in silage on the farm. Time is passing at an alarming rate right now.

Very exciting news on a possible new companion Lainey and definitely a great incentive.

Finally had some sunshine up here over the weekend which was nice. Beautiful evening now so I'm off to water the tomatoes once last time before bed.

I hope to get back later in the week and catch up on all the news.

I'm pleased you didn't need to have the minor surgery candlelight. There's a lot to be said for 'if it isn't broke don't fix it' and I think the right decision all round. :)

Lainey what a way to stay motivated to getting to your goal. I'm looking forward to sharing in getting to know your new pal. By then you'll be fighting fit and raring to go.

Thank you for the kind words about the kitchen. It's quite plain but very me and more importantly for me, won't date! It is scary how much a small kitchen costs but everyone pointed out to me that I had more cabinetry in there than most people have in a standard sized kitchen. Monna the ikea BEKVAM stained dark oak (I'm playing the Ikea game too Lyn:D Bekvam is sturdy and well worth the £13 outlay ) step stool is the most used item in the kitchen but was removed for presentation purposes. It sits in front of the radiator when it's not being kicked around the room. You bad, bad lady exposing my tricks. Cannat kid a kidder eh? ;)

And finally life. It's busy. I'm stuck into getting the house complete ready for the autumn. I'm tired of it all now so I need a push. DH got the last of the living room skirting on at the weekend so I need to stain all that now plus I've given myself an extra job - remember the cupboard DH and I built together and I skimmed? Well in his hammering on the skirting the plaster has cracked and I can't bare to reskim. Solution? Plaid wallpaper in neutral colours with a hit of beige. It arrives tomorrow. It will just be on the staircase wall but I think it will do a good job of tying everything in. Plaid and beige - ha, so me!

And finally. Health. Touch wood I'm doing so well. My breathing struggles when the pollen count is high but I now use anti histamines. Mental health is where it needs to be and 8 months on I have put up a photo of my mam and dad. Dad is smiling a big teethy smile at the camera and mam is sat with her arm around him, winking at camera. It was taken before all the illness and sad times. It's been there 5 days now and I sometimes grin at it saying hello to them but I sometimes cry at such happiness gone wrong, and if I'm honest, what I lost so many years ago but I am pleased I am the kind of person who goes with my emotions because I have seen what happens when you don't and I fear my sister is following my mam's footsteps (not drinking) because she won't talk and do anything that causes her pain in thinking or talking. We have a family funeral (it's ok, it's a great uncle so the emotional element isn't there) but my sister can't bare to go because she will meet withal mam's family and that will cause her pain. I'm very lucky in that I feel like I should go for my mam because she can't go. I feel a sense of duty and if I'm honest, i'd like the opportunity to connect to people who were at my mam's funeral but I didn't get the chance to talk to because I had to mingle around everyone.

    Gosh I've gone on!
  • You're a sensible girlie Fuds, the present and all you've earned and achieved are worth more in credit than lost times ever would have been. You've walked a difficult path in your young life BUT the strength of character you've shown and your dogged determination to wrench a new life from the situation you were in and to actually achieve that life to the degree you have and are living now is beyond admiration. Your parents will be VERY proud of the girl they made and the woman she has become. I know I am!!!

Go to the funeral and represent the family, be proud that you have the courage and strength to do so, what an example to set those small ones of yours on how to behave and how to stand up and be counted when you need to and know that your sister will be there with you in spirit even though she can't find it in her to go physically. Worth more than rubies you are petal xxx.

Fuds that is a ruddy lovely kitchen! I bet you've spent many a happy hour organising those cupboards.

Lyn, there will be many prayers flying to heaven tomorrow, not only for Orley but for all his anxious family.
It will be worse for all of you than it is for him, and fortunately he is too young to remember anything about it.
Isn't it wonderful that we live in a place and time when such operations are possible. Lucky, lucky Orley that he was born in 2017 and not in 1917.

Fuddle, I just knew there would have to be a stepladder in there somewhere. Kitchen cupboards and supermarket shelves are not designed for us shorties.

Well done on deciding to go to the funeral. I find that funerals are where most family get-togethers take place these days. At my Dads funeral I reconnected with several family members whom I had not seen since we were children, and have kept in touch with them since. It's all good but I do understand that it might be too much for your sister.

I am not complaing but I will be thankful when it gets a bit cooler.

Will be thinking of the little one tomorrow Lyn xx

Fuddle, am so glad you said about talking to the picture of your Mum and Dad, I have one of mine on their wedding day and say hello every morning. Some days it makes me smile, others it makes the old bottom lip tremble but most of all I am just so thankful that they were mine.

Healthy eating is going well, helps that it's been so blooming hot and all I want to eat is salad etc, have found some delic lollies in W8rose that are made from coconut water and only 50 or so calories :)

Fuds we bought a natural finish BEKVAM in 2006 when we did our massive shop at 75% of the Ikea stores(when the kitchen was re-done & I moved in ;)) - it now lives in the back bedroom as a seat for putting on my shoes / step to reach the top shelf.
