Merry Christmas Lyn and all our friends to follow
I have had a teary 24 hours, made worse by deciding to make my wreath for the grave this morning. The girls glittered a couple of pine cones and I wire wrapped conifer, fir and holly around a coathanger made into a circle. I won't have access to the greenery next year so will have to get creative then. I washed down my mam and dad's headstone anchored the wreath with further coathangers, had a thought, a smile and the tears just stopped. I've been fine since.
We've made our mince pies and mid way through the Buche Noel.Just waiting for the sponge to cool. So far so good.
I hope for a calm andcontented Christmas for us all. For those of us that can be merry, please please do and enjoy and those that can't quite get there I do hope there's the ability to draw upon happy memories.
Love and be loved my friends.x

It has been a busy but happy day in our little home, this morning I made the mince pies, sausage rolls and finally got round to icing that cake, royal icing because that's what darling Capt S prefers. In the meantime he did his Cinders act by whooshing through with the hoover and wiping down all sinks etc. Lunch was cold cuts and cheese.
We managed to get the girls out in the daylight, the wind has picked up again and little Tilly's ears were flapping in the breeze, always makes me smile to seeIt's still blowing round the house and making the big trees creak but we are safe and warm indoors, perfick.
I have some cold poached salmon ready and will now add it to a winter slaw I also made this morning, wanted something relatively light and fresh tasting before the excesses of the next few days, might have a glass of something cold and bubbly to go with it mind
DB has texted a couple of times to say that Mum has had a better day, the anti-nausea tablets have worked so she is much more comfortable thank goodness.
Whatever tomorrow and the next few weeks bring I feel at peace and calm in myself, am blessed to be surrounded by so much love, here in my home, with my family and also my friends, of which you all are most certainly included.
Gentle blessings on you all xx0 -
Lainey I am so pleased both you and Mum have had a better day. You sound much more content, probably knowing Mum is more comfortable and you have had some time to yourself.
Enjoy this Christmas time
as much as you can, my lavender candle is burning as usual and I send gentle hugs to you and yours.
Thank you for your friendship throughout the year.
Much love

I can recommend stepping off the merry go round ! I feel rested and can feel all my taut muscles unknotting .

Now I'm about to watch the new Alan Bennett diaries , followed by Grantchester - real joy and not a celebrity in sight !!!
Love pollyIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.0 -
Well, the dining table is set. The trio of sorbets (mulled wine, champagne and orange) are in the freezer and the chocolate orange cheesecake chilling in the fridge. I made the 3 cheese terrine last night so it is in a loaf tin as I cut my hand trying to open up the fancy Lakeland terrine tin I'd bought years ago and never used. It could be the first charity shop donation of 2017:) veggies all prepared and I remembered to take the pigs in blankets from the freezer.
I'm hoping to feel a bit more festive tomorrow. I visited hubby's aunt last night and she was glad of a "change of face" as she put it. The anniversary of uncles death was last weekend so it's been a difficult time and we lost a close friend a few weeks back very suddenly so I dropped in to see the family today which was nice but very emotional. Sadly it was hubby who found him dead when he popped in to borrow a piece of machinery and he just isn't able to face going back to their house just yet but I couldn't put it off so I'm glad I've been. I also spent half an hour with my neighbour who is in the care home - that was a bit more cheerful as there was a game of whist underway. I hadn't played for years and it showed so I left the residents to it - it was all very competitive!
I managed a hair appointment too so the grey is no more and I look presentable. I ran 6 miles this morning before I went to the salon as I won't get out tomorrow and I'm beginning to feel a bit exhausted now. I think I may have a soak in the bath before bed (we use the bath so rarely I need to dust it so it would kill two birds with one stone:)).
The storm has abated now although one of our exit roads is flooded. No damage done so hopeful Connor will be gentle on us too
I'll be back in Boxing Day once I've taken the decorations down ( we're heading out to the US on Tiesday). In the meantime I hope everyone has a peaceful Christmas whatever the circumstances and I'll a raise a glass to you all tomorrow. Your kind words, wise counsel and warmth mean so much to me.0 -
Merry Christmas everyone! We had a really good journey, traffic was remarkably light and DH was amazed to be able to do the M25 bit at 70 mph, something he's never done before!
Probably won't be on much until we get home so look after yourselves, and hugs to those who want one.

Merry Christmas to you all, we've had such a nice day without doing anything exciting. The midnight service last night was beautiful, communion very special and sharing the peace was 'right' and comforting. We got home just after 1 and were in bed by half past, bliss! Sat on Nells bed to open stockings at 7.30 this morning with a cup of tea and then fresh baked rolls for breakfast with a cafetiere of coffee. Our brisket had been set off in the slow cooker as we came in last night and was cooked to perfection at 1.30 with lots of delicious gravy. We got the veg ready yesterday so all was ordered and easy and much enjoyed. We've been for a nice walk across the water meadows, inspected the allotments, met and had cuddles with a super friendly white german shepherd just out of puppyhood and been wished and reciprocated Merry Christmas by many other folks also out for a walk, very jovial and pleasant! Cold cuts and cheese for supper but much, much later on and a relatively early night to make up for the late one last night. We haven't had the TV on all day which is nice and I had a chat with Ruthie and Zebra who was having such fun with Gran and Grandad who are staying and a call from FUDS which made my day, thanks petal I hope lunch was fantastic and you get full use and pleasure from your lovely present.....won't spoil things by telling what it is, you can do that and make everyone envious!!!
I hope you have all had a lovely day and nice food and company, Lyn xxx.0 -
Lyn we need to get you out more if my tones are of the dulcet variety.
Your day sounds just the ticket. Ours has included a 4.40am rise, pictionary, a grown ups sewing machine for a fuddled grownup and a yummy dinner made by DH. We're shattered, getting the girls ready for bed and wondering if maybe, just maybe, we have room for a fry-up.
:D:eek::rotfl:
Merry Christmas! x0 -
Merry Christmas to all :xmastree:
Not long been back in after spending time at DB's, we have had a lovely day all together and my lovely Mum even managed a little turkey & gravy :j happy to say there was lots of laughing and jollity, we have certainly squeezed every drop out of our day with games etc which would have gone on longer but we had the girls to think of.
Now we are tucked up warm and cosy in our own little home, candles lit and tree lights twinkling, glad to hear you have all had such lovely days.
Love to you all xx0
