Fresh start in new year is nice timing.0

Ha Fuddle, not sure if our house is always completely calm, especially when the dogs are racing around with their toys
but it is a very content little home, full of love and happiness.
Mum is currently sitting at our dining room table, writing her cards, we are going to pop down to the garden centre in the village soon to pick up a few bits and have as much of a wander around as she can cope with. Small pleasures found every day x0 -
Fuddle you are bringing a joy to this thread. Your enthusiasm is infectious and I love it. DD1 became vegetarian when she was younger, but evidently it was the smell of bacon cooking that changed her back into a meat eater. Don't worry about her, just make sure she has enough protein for a growing girl, and to be honest I admire her making such a decision when she is so young. If she sticks with it she will find information out for herself and will then know what she should be eating to stay healthy.
Lainey, like Fuddle, I can picture you and your Mum in the kitchen, her writing the cards and you pottering about. The human spirit is a wonderful thing, if she has decided she wants to be here for Christmas, then I don't doubt she will try her very best to be here. You are both constantly in my thoughts, and I so hope you have a peaceful and calm Christmas.
Lyn I hope you and HWK are both well, have you actually seen the other GP yet regarding your medication? It sounds as though Nell is finishing the term on a high, well done her. Ruthie must be so relieved to be finishing work for now, I should think she is quite tired by the end of the day, although I know the Zebra boy must be a big help to her. How lovely of him to say hello to the baby
We have done a small shop ths morning and I had to pick up a sweater I had ordered from M&S. Both DGDs are off to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park tomorrow so I hope the weather is dry for them. We will take them to the bus station but DGD1s boyfriend will pick them up late evening.
I have just constructed a bread and butter pudding for this evening with a panettone, but need to pour the custard over it before cooking. We are having fusilli with pesto for the main course.
Himself is on an even keel thank goodness, he pretends he doesn't like Christmas (bah humbug) but secretly he does, not that he does anything towards it. Christmas just HAPPENS in our house, always has.
The weather is lovely and bright here today, I do so hate dark days.
Have a good day all
Much love

Hi CANDLELIGHT yes I saw another really lovely GP last week, she was much easier to talk to, explained everything in terms of acceptable figures for my blood pressure and said her colleague was very forceful in areas that she believed in, she also said don't do Zumba for goodness sake it will KILL you!!! We review meds in 7 weeks time as apparently the beta blockers are marginal as to my needing them and as I drop weight she'll reduce meds and they will be the first to go. I've dropped just over 11 pounds in 5 weeks, it's been remarkably painless, He Who Knows has dropped 10 pounds and feels better for it, I'm no longer classed as obese, just overweight and have 12 lbs to lose to be within my BMI area. I've never been able to do this before and I'm so very much looking forward to being able to walk into a 'normal' shop and buy something to fit. I'm currently in size 16s that Nell saved for me as she slimmed a while ago, she's a size 12 now and I've quite a lot of size 14s to wear as I lose more, it's fab!!!
Ruthie is fed up with being pregnant and starts her maternity leave tomorrow, Nell is in great demand from other staff particularly the music department and is having fun again tonight in the organ loft of the Cathedral for another concert, she's in charge of the organ stops, her idea of heaven. We are having Maisie doggie again from 4 to 6.30ish this evening as she's been on her own all day poor pup and Mum has to pick up the twins from Winchester and the traffic will be horrendous, more cuddles for me, lovely!!!0 -
Do not read the next 2 lines Lyn.
Oh candlelight! I've heard some good ideas in my time but a bread and butter pudding made of pannetone? what are you doing to me!
11lbs is amazing Lyn. Really well done because it's something I have never been able to achieve myself. What a bonus to have HWK lose too. Only good things can come of it and even a renewed enthusiasm for those things we adorn ourselves with can be celebrated.
I've been quietly keeping myself to myself today. I'm ready to go back to my shop really but I'm off rota until 9th January so I worked on my patch work quilt top. I should be finished it tomorrow. The wadding arrived today but I'm still waiting on a flat sheet for the backing. Flat sheet because it was cheaper buying that than fabric by the metre. I'm going to fold the backing round to make the edging to save a bit more money.
I also have a box for each room in the kitchen. I'm gradually packing away things but won't start properly till after Christmas. I enjoy the clearing and sorting process of moving anyway but this time it's on another level, verging on exciting :cool:0 -
Fuddle I guess you may already know this gem of packing boxes, but melon /tomato boxes with rigid corners are ideal for books, CDs & DVDs as they can be filled, stacked in an empty corner, moved, and restacked until you have some shelves to empty them onto. Morning world, had a very sleepless night last night, slept from 10 until 1.30 and then was wide awake until about 6.30 when I dozed off to be woken by He Who Knows getting up half an hour later, it's going to be a l o n g day I think!
Ne'mind, house is sorted, stove is cleaned, beds are changed, ironing is done and I'm contemplating steam mopping the floors but He Who Knows is on the allotment harvesting things so it had better wait until tomorrow, allotments always = MUD!
Maisie was lovely yesterday and came and laid on the floor in the kitchen while I was cooking supper, she was even brave enough to come into the lounge a couple of times to say hello, things progress!!! she's getting used to He Who Knows as well although when he's stood up (he is tall) she's a little nervous but will now take treats from his hand and even give a paw for them, big improvements and he loves it! Big softie that he is!!! Nice to have 'doggie involvement' in our lives again, very nice indeed!
Nell finishes for the term at lunchtime and is off on the train to sit on the Zebra child while Ru goes for her last anti natal check, tomorrow Aunty Lellie is taking the Zebra to the theatre for the first time to see a toddler aged play about a bear who grows too big for his house, it involves a train ride to get there and will also involve buying mummy and daddy a present each and meeting Aunty Anna (one of Nells colleagues) for lunch at the Italian restaurant, give that boy garlic bread and sketti bolnays and he's happy, happy, happy!
My only other job to do today is walk Cookie and I'm going to try to get to the library and change my books if there's time. Hope you all have a good day with happy things in Lyn xxx.0 -
Oh my children's treasure... now that I am dreading sorting.
Ouch Lyn. There's really nothing worse than that out for the count stage that lasts only a short while in the early hours of the morning. I hope you're relaxing in bed and soon to drop off.
My day started with the Gas Safe test on the rental boiler. I've met the engineer/plumber a couple of times this past year. I asked him about kitchen refits and it turns out he used to be a kitchen fitter too so I have some tips for small space kitchens, an understanding of how gas piping can be moved to suit layout and sourced myself a kitchen fitter who he will work with to install the gas and alter the plumbing in the kitchen and eventually the bathroom.
I then set to on my quilt again. I have all the gubbings to finish it. I'm at the basting stage although tedious as I'm stitching the layers together before I can quilt.
Then finally it was my christmas tea with the girls from my charity shop. I had a 3 course christmas dinner in the cafe up from the shop. We had the place to ourselves as the owners opened up just for us after 5pm. I had a laugh and enjoyed my little bit of socialising.0 -
Morning friends.
Fuddle - I admire your work in the quilt. I bought a cot sized wedding ring quilt kit years back but never got round to doing anything with it and eventually donated it to a friend who was laid up after a knee operation. One of these days I'll maybe manage to make one.
I'm having a day off today but worked out last night if I wanted to fit in a gym class it would have to be the 6.15am given all the things I need to do today. Mother and sister have extended their NY stay and may not be back until Sunday so I'm somewhat snowed under and I need to go to Costco today to get the turkey which I will then freeze. Not looking forward to a Costco trip at this time of year:(
I also need to go to the post office to send a parcel, hand deliver some cards before people are up and about and drop off some books at the Barnados shop.
Promised dad I would be over at 8.30 to make him some bacon rolls. He has been having toast for breakfast as he didn't want to get the grill messy so once I've worked out, washed and dressed we deserve some bacon rolls I think:)
Hopefully will be back later to report many achievements - fingers crossed!0 -
Hello my friends,
Just a quick post this morning as am leaving for DB's soon, as expected Mum was very tired yesterday after her little trip to the GC on Wednesday but she said it was worth the effort. She picked up a few bits she wanted including an outside light for Captain S, he has been moaning that the one by the front door doesn't light up the garden gate so it's perfect. It's a solar one that goes in the ground, 10 Lumien what ever that means but recommended by a member of staff who has one.
Love to all, enjoy your bacon buttie SM, anyone who hits the gym at that time of the morning deserves a treat in my eyes
Have a good Friday xxx0
