Evening all. What a beautiful weekend. A bit breezy and a little chilly at times but sunshine most of the time so lots of washing dry on the line and some good time spent in the garden.

I was strimming my edges around the garden earlier when I came to an abrupt halt. It seems the little fuel pipe on the strimmer (it's one of the industrial ones) has a hole so that will need to be replaced before I can do any more:(

I spent a good bit of yesterday afternoon wrapping the inside of the greenhouse with bubble wrap in an Attempt put to stem the draughts which I think have been responsible for my lack of success so far. Fingers crossed that will do the trick:)

Other than that, not much to report from here.

Candlelight - the painting has gone off to be valued, I'm due to collect it on Friday and also get a idea of what it would cost to restore. It's a painting of the Jacobite rebellion so not terribly in keeping with my home decor but I'm very fond of it. I did suggest to hubby it would look great in a new extension so it could end up being a very expensive gift:D

Was a bit stuck for dessert ideas tonight so my offering was lemon meringue pie. I haven't made that in years and it seemed to go down well.

Off to paint my nails now and bake them with the gel lamp thing I borrowed from my sister. It sounds very chic but the truth is my nails are in such a poor state I'll try anything to make them look presentable at the moment!

    Hi everyone,

Candlelight - a belated happy birthday to you and great news re Himself. I do hope your kidneys are OK.

I was flat out last weekend - think I've come back to work for a break. Cousin's baby shower went really well, which was the main thing, although I dind't get the blanket finihsed in time. I gave it to her wrapped up asit was, and asked her to give it back so I could finish it. It went down well!

We had a big storm overnight but no damage I think. DH brough in as much of the furniutre as possible.

No bike riding either last wekend as I just ran out of time. That was a grand total of 0 kms last week! I have to do 120 km on Saturday and 55 km on Sunday this week and I am sure going to know about them! Got some indoor work to do this week before them.

Short note - back to the grindstone!

    much love

    Hello all,

My goodness it is quiet here, we must all be really busy.

Himself is doing well and weight is very stable, so not gainng any fluid.

I have had a urinary tract infection so on antibiotics. It has been very painful but is responding well now to the antibs. I had an appointment with a kidney specialist for the 2nd June, this has now been changed to 30th June. I had already been and had bloods taken and taken 2 urine specimens, so goodness knows whether I have to do that again. They asked for them to be done 2 weeks before my appointment

We had a new gas cooker fitted on Saturday and it is all shiny and bright. The old one had been on the blink for a while, so I thought it safer to invest in a new one.

Having decided on carpet for the sitting room instead of wood we went and ordered that last week, and it will be fitted after the Bank Holiday. We will take the old carpet up over the weekend, it isn't a large room so shouldn't be too bad.

Himself saw a rat in our garden yesterday so we had to buy some rat bait today. The house next door seems to have been abandoned, and we think it has come from their overgrown garden. I hope it is dispatched fairly quickly, I am an animal lover but I can't bear the thought of rats so close to home.

DGD had a lovely time in Milan with her BF and bought me back a beautiful scarf from Como.

I hope everyone is well, and SM do you have a masterpiece hanging on your wall :)

Hoglet slow down a little and smell the roses:)

Lyn I think I read you were not so well, look after yourself and take things steady.

AOT are you OK, I hope you are managging to keep well?

Lainey I hope Bill is OK and responding to treatment

I think thats all my chatter for today.

    Much love

Hi CANDLELIGHT glad that Mr C is doing so well and recovering nicely and glad to hear that you are responding to the antibiotics and hopefully feel more comfortable now. I'm OK just a bit sore with my heel which DD2 has diagnosed as plantar fasciitis but I'm doing stretching exercises and taking pain killers so it's bearable. Having a week or so off the Cookie walks to give it some time to stop hurting, I walk her on pavements which seems to make it sore.

Rolands are very widespread in this country, particularly if anyone isn't careful with food waste disposal or has chickens in the garden, we've even had them inside the compost heaps on occasion little perishers and He Who Knows puts down bait in places where it won't be taken by any domestic animals which usually sorts the problem out in a couple of weeks. You'll never know where they came in from but hopefully baiting will see them off.

Hope we get some nice weather soon, I want some sunshine for all of us to enjoy and not to have to worry about showers every day, Lyn xxx.

    Hello everyone,

Well sitting here on Monday evening with sunlight streaming in through the lounge windows, it often seems the way that the best part of the day comes late but leaves the skies clear for it to get cold overnight. Another one here Lyn who cannot wait for the warmer weather to really start, it's only a month to go until the Solstice and I want to make the most of the long days!

The weekend just gone was lovely, it was my middle niece's 18th birthday and rather than a big bash she wanted a family tea party. She is studying to go in to midwifery and has decided to spend a couple of weeks in Ghana during the holidays, helping out at a orphanage. She is travelling with her friend and they have gone through a reputable company but must admit will be happy when she is finally home. Especially as she is due back in the country the day before my eldest niece's wedding :o
After nearly finishing my eight weeks on the BSD I did allow some self some treats yesterday which included a large piece of birthday cake, lemon flavour topped by jelly beans, yum. Am pleased with how the diet has gone, have lost nearly 20lbs and am feeling much better, my energy levels have certainly improved. Still would like to lose a bit more so will try sticking to a 5:2 regime and see how that goes.

Candlelight - Bill is doing ok thank you for asking, the last week or so he seems to have been a bit stiff and sore so have put him back on Bute for a few days and will see how he goes. Another reason to wish for warmer weather as that will really help. Do hope you are feeling much improved now and that the antibiotics have kicked in?
Likewise Lyn, ouch with your sore heels, hope resting them for a bit helps.
Hoglet, all I can say is WOW on all those kilometres, that takes some doing.
SM - ooh I love a lemon meringue pie, hope the painting is home and safely ensconced.

Not much else to report, much love to all and have a good week x x

    Hi everyone,

Lovely to catch up on all your news. Candlelight, I'm so sorry you've been poorly, I do hope you're feeling better. I will try to slow down I promise! MLW - I hope your foot is much less painful soon. Lainey I hope Bill gets some warmer weather soon.

Crochet blanket still v much in its infancy, must get it done before my cousin's baby is born at the end of July.

We have had truly disgusting weather. No biking on Saturday but I did go out and do my 120 km on Sunday - first 4 hours were beautiful, last 4 hours, when I was going through the hills, driving wind and rain. It really was miserable, but the first half made up for it. 2 hot baths later and my legs are feeling human again. It's a recovery week this week, so only 40 and 30 km to do at the weekend and nice easy indoor work. Phew!

Work, of course, is mental - it's still like buses, long periods of silence then bam! Tonnes to do all at once. Might have a new client coming on board soon which will be great, just got to slot them in!

Right, better get back to it.

    Much love

Candlelight - hope you are feeling better. No masterpiece on the wall just yet. The valuation for insurance purposes is £3k which was much higher than I expected but the valuer said for probate he would have stated £1k. Although I got a written valuation for insurance the probate one was verbal as it was another £25 on top of the £75 I'd spent for the insurance valuation. It makes me mad that art and jewellery valuations are charged as a percentage of the value. To me it makes no difference if something is worth £1k or £10k, surely the effort in valuing it is the same. I got caught out a few years back when I had to get jewellery valued for insurance cover. The final cost was over £300 and that was after much negotiation with the jeweller:mad:
Anyway, back to the painting. It needs cleaning up professionally and the frame fixed. The quote for that is £575 plus vat so it will have to wait for a while as I have other more pressing things at the moment.

My garden is looking healthier now as we've had some sunshine. My dandelion crop is certainly flourishing:)

I was given an old stone trough last weekend so it needs cleaned up (covered in moss) and the. I can decide what to plant in it. I saw one recently which had been planted with hostas and showy white flowers and it looked wonderful. I'm a big fan of hostas although I wouldn't have thought to them in a planter.
The bubble wrap seems to have helped in the greenhouse although hubby went round the outside edges at the base with expanding foam. It's a bit messy so now it is dry I must cut off the excess.

In addition to the pheasant we now appear to have a visiting partridge family in the garden. Mummy, daddy and two little ones. I watched them waddle through my fruit bushes early this morning en route to the next field. The little ones were quite sweet, they kept stopping to examine things and one of the adults had to run back constantly and chivvy them along.

MrsLW - I can ignore most pests but I simply hate those black things. My uncle wasn't having any success on his farm using poison so he tracked them the nest/lair to a hole in the wall in an old barn. He then sealed up the other end of the hole and stuffed petrol soaked rags in before setting Them alight. My aunt was absolutely furious as it could so easily have started a fire. Seems to have cured the problem though not to be recommended!

SM your wildlife is far more interesting than mine at the moment. How lovely to have pheasants and partridge (with family) to look at.

Flora the cat sits in the window looking at the birds who have been frantically gathering stuff to make their nests. We have a beautiul robin who sits and looks at me when I am in the kitchen, and I have said to Himself I think it is my Dad. He had the most beautiful garden and both he and Mum had green fingers.

You can rest easy with the painting then, you wouldn't want it to be worth a fortune, it is such a responsibility. It should look good when you do eventually have it cleaned.

Had a letter in the post this morning I have to go for an ultrasound on the 10th June and I have to go with a full bladder. Hopefully it shouldn't be too bad, I have quite good control of my bladder, but we shall see.

    Have a good day all
