    Good evening all,

Bank holiday weather here, rain and quite fierce winds, but the sun is trying to shine now, a little late.

We have had a quiet weekend, we went out for a few bits today and I had my hair cut on Saturday.

Himself is progressing slowly, he gets tired very easily so somewhat limited in what we can do together at the moment.

Hoglet you sound to be a whiz on the bicycle, surely you must have had a sore rear to start with. I have seen some of those saddles, look like razor blade :):)

Lainey, poor Bill, I know how he feels with the aches and pains this cold and damp weather doesn't agree with me either. I know why my younger sister goes to Florida in the winter and spring.

SM your pyrex dishes will be snapped up immediately, they have become very fashionable again. I have a catarract on my right eye, but it isn't ready yet. I wish your friend luck having his operation and a speedy recovery. I am sure you and your friends will be there for him if he needs any help. I think he needs to have someone with him the first night after the op, at least we do down here.

Mar thank you, and thank you for your PM. Our men are such a worry to us sometimes, but we will get them through it, one way or another.

Lyn, thank you also for your PM, what lovely friends we have here, it means so much. I need some warmth to my body now, I am fed up with feeling cold, surely now it is May it is time. I know the weather girl said temperatures should rise towards the end of the week, I hope she is right. Mar I should think you would be thankful for some sun as well.

    Have a good evening

    Love and hugs

It's like the end of the rainbow... the warmer days at the end of the week. Only they never seem to show up.

    Evening all,

We have had a mixed day weather wise. It was fine first thing, so managed to put 2 loads of washing out, it was almost dry when it started to rain. I finished the washing off in the TD, and this evening it is lovely.

I have almost run out of vegetables, so we need to pop out in the morning, then Himself has an appointment with the practice nurse in the afternoon for a diabetic foot check and for her to check his right leg which has the cellulitis. It is clearing slowly, more so now that most of the fluid has gone from his legs.

I think we have decided on wood flooring for the sitting room, with a large rug on top. Flora has made such a mess of this carpet so I think wood is more practical. Himself isn't well enough to take up the old carpet yet, but another couple of weeks I think we will go and order the flooring, and then they usually give us a few days before they want to fit it. I feel a project coming on :):)

Have a good evening and looking forward to warmer weather this week

    Hi everyone,

Candlelight - I do hope Himself continues to improve and everything goes well with the nurse. You're very sweet about my bike riding! I have had a VERY sore rear but not for the reasone you might think. I looked at those saddles too and bought myself a big fat squishy one. Well, that's all very well and good for the odd short ride, but after lots of hours, the size of the saddle casues lots of chaffing problems. I've now switched it back to the more streamlined one the bike came with. Time will tell!! I have to do some work on the indoor trainer this week and then lots of kms at the weekend. (100 on Saturday, 50 on Sunday.)

We had a night with no cat shenangins at all - after going to sleep the first thing I woke up to was the alarm, it was quite strange!

We're having unseasonably warm weather at the moment (I'm definitely not complaining about that!). Still not into a jacket yet, and it's late autumn now. Long may it continue!

Must do a bit of work,

    Evening all.

I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it holds out until the weekend so I can get out in it!

I've been mystified at why one of my tomato plants seemed to be failing badly however tonight I've discovered that particular area of the greenhouse is horribly draughty so I have temporarily removed it from the grow bag to a pot in the hope I can save it and I'll try to find some bubble wrap to plug the gap between the brick base and the structure.

We seem to have lost all the seeds which we sowed in early April. Not a single thing has grown so it's back to the drawing board.:( Too late now to plant the same things again so will need to have a rethink very quickly.

Hubby has managed to wear through the elbow of his favourite cardigan so I found some leather patches on a well known auction site and spent last night sewing them on. My fingers are really feeling it today but at least the cardigan is good for another while now.

Did anyone watch "What Britain Buys" earlier I caught a bit of it and was amazed that sales of bowls hAve soared as people no longer use flatter style dinner plates and the like. If it is to be believed everyone sits on the sofa with a bowl regardless of the type of food- well, I must be stuck in the dark ages. We sit at the table and use dinner plates. I won't even have a tv in the kitchen as there would be zero conversation over meals if it was there. Im feeling like a real old fogey now but I don't see me changing anytime soon.:)

Enjoy the heatwave while it lasts.

  • SM we've had a total non grow of runner beans this year, luckily there is still time to do another sowing of different seeds but for them ALL not to germinate is a first!

Was woken at 6 this morning by torrential rain on the roof, like being inside a large drum, the patio had at least an inch of water on when I looked out and the road at the front was a river, we've had several periods of very intense rain since then but the sky looks a little lighter so perhaps it's passing, I certainly hope so as He Who Knows is hoping to go off and annoy the local carp population today and he's looking forward to his fishing very much!

    Morning everyone,

SM - I really hope youre able to rescue your tomato plant. So sorry about your seeds - good luck with your rethink.

MLW - goodness what weather! We had a bad year for runner beans too. We had a bad year for lots of things actually, apart from the chillies which are still going.

I've had a ridiculously busy week - everything happens at the same time doesn't it - work has been busy, I'm on a deadline for my publishing work and it's my cousin's baby shower this weekend - my gift (crochet blanket) is nowhere near completed and not looking likely to become so in time either. Bike riding is off this weekend apart form a quick one to turn the legs over - it was supposed to be 120 km this Saturday but I don't have time. That will be next week!

DH is off rugby this weeknd too as his sciatic nerve is giving him problems. Physio says his muscles have gone into spasm, that's what's doing it, not a disc issue, so that is something at least. The match he reffed last week has been written up by one of the kids as it was such a nail-biter, there were some good pics of him reffing the match with the article.

That's about it from me - back to work!

    Good afternoon all,

Cooler here today, as opposed to yesterday when it was glorious.

Went out with the "girls" last night to exchange birthday presents and catch up on all their news. We had a nice meal and Himself picked me up at 8.30 so not late.

He is progressing really well. We were concerned with the ulcers on his right leg which were not healing, so I sent for some Manuka honey dressings, and I must say you can almost see his leg healing. The pink colour has come back into his leg, and he has 2 quite nasty ulcers on his shin and they seem to be responding very well. I can thoroughly recommend them if anyone needs thm in the future.

DGD is off to Milan very early tomorrow morning with BF for a few days, they are both really looking forward to it. They went to Florence last time, I told her I was very envious.

It was my birthday on Tuesday and I was very spoilt with lots of flowers and presents.

I had to go to the hospital this morning to have more blood taken, and again next Thursday, I did say that's almost half an arm full :):). My GP is convinced I have something wrong with my kidneys so I have an appointment with a Consultant on 2nd June. He tells me I look well, I tell him I feel well (all things considered) but still he referrs me. No doubt I will find out in the fullness of time.

SM is there any development on the gift of the painting?

Hoglet you sound so busy, and your DH has my sympathy regarding the sciatica nerve, it is so painful.

Lyn, are you having fun looking at properties nearer to Nell and Ruthie? You will be nearer to me as well :):). It seems practical to be closer to them, and as you say if Ruthie has another child you will be needed even more. I know you said it will probably be a couple of years yet, but it is good to get the lay of the land, and have some idea of property prices.

I don't think I have any more news, so have a good weekend and I hope the sun shines on you.

    Much love

  • Hi CANDLELIGHT and a very happy belated birthday for Tuesday. Really good news that Himself is making such an excellent recovery and that the Manuka Honey Dressings are being so effective on the ulcers, sometimes it's not the high tec new stuff that works best but the old fashioned tried and tested things, wonderful stuff Manuka Honey, I've a jar in the first aid box!

Hope the GP is wrong about your kidneys love, and if he's right I hope it's something easily fixed by medication, good luck with the consultant appointment. Hope DGD has a lovely break in Milan too.

House hunting is just dipping a toe online to see what out current house value will get us a bit further west, looks like we'd be able to find a reasonable 3/4 bed with a decent garden for what we'd get for this one but until you actually visit the areas you see suitable properties online in you don't know the terrain or the 'feel' of the village, an ongoing work I feel. This part of Hampshire is beginning to be completely built up, yesterday I went to the consultation in the village hall that is a proposal to put 200 new homes on a nursery site nearby, next week there is another one for a 400 home build about 1/2 a mile away and this on top of a new town being built with 3,500 new homes about 3 miles away and some 600 homes already built between this village and the next, it's beginning to be very congested, roads fuller, almost impossible to get doctors or dental appointments and the schools are full to bursting and then a couple of weeks ago I heard of an approved plan for 2,000 new houses about 5 miles away but within the next Authoritys boundary. I don't want to stay where that's happening no matter how lovely this village is now.

Hope you all have a nice weekend too, it looks like staying fine and just a bit cooler which will be very pleasant, Lyn xxx.

He Who Knows had a letter from the hospital consultant saying he had 'very nice unfurry arteries' and that all tests have come back completely normal, couldn't wish for better!
