Oh that is a relief Lyn, poor things, what a long and gruelling day and they must have been worrying about letting you know.
Bet you sleep well tonight as well x

    Hi everyone,

A real mixed bag of weather here - beautiful over the wekened and last 2 days, now it looks like we're deep in winter. Might not be getting out on my bike tonight! Treated myself to a cycling jersey that was reduced from $150 to $40, hoping that arrives on this morning's courier (sent it to work so I don't have to pick it up from the depot).

I've been trying to book flight's to take DH's kids over to Australia when they come to visit - it will be in the middle of our winter so we wanted some winter sun. Went to the travel agent to see what they could offer - quoted me cheapest rate as $2660 for all 4 of us, not including bags. I had a look online - found flights for $1732, including bags, taxes, everything. Asked the agent to match it and they've come back and said they can't find anything cheaper than $2660! As much as I hate being ripped off, I really hate being lied to. So that's them on the black list of never to be used companies, and we'll enjoy saving the $900 difference... (that's about 450 pounds).

Sorry to rant, but one of my pet hates really is companies that assume their customers are too lazy or stupid to do their own research, it's just insulting.

Better do some work - hope you're all having better days!

  • What a difference in price Hoglet. I try to support old style shops/services over the Internet however, like you, I won't be made a fool of so I would do the same. I'd also be letting them know once I'd done it. I'm afraid I don't give second chances these days.

It's manically busy at work. 2 bank holidays looming which simply means extra work over the 4 days this week and next. Sadly the weather forecast for Saturday is utterly dire and I'm spending a good chunk of Friday in the hairdressers which may be the best day of the long weekend:(
Got a rotten cold and sore throat too so I'm travelling with copious amounts of tissues, drinking water and cold medicine at the moment. I must look grim, I even managed to get a space around me on a jam packed standing room only train tonight. I didn't get a seat but nobody wanted to be too close so at least I could put my laptop bag down safely.

My lovely friend and neighbour dropped in on Sunday and brought me about a dozen pieces of raspberry bushes which she had cut off hers. We've planted some in ground and some in tubs so fingers crossed they take. Both my raspberry bushes died last year so we had no fruit.

Short update tonight. I'm shattered so it's off to bed early with my supply of Vick vaporub. I can't smell a thing but hubby says I've used so much it's making his eyes water!

SM - oh that's so rotten, I do hope you're on the mend soon. Terrible timing to be ill when you're busy at work too, not that it's ever nice to be ill. I hope you're able to get some rest over the long weekend too. I hope your raspberry bushes take too! And yes, quite, it's the being made a fool isn't it that's so irritating. I certianly told them I'd booked direct with the airline and the cheeky so-and-sos said did I want to buy their insurance? NO!

Lainey - thanks! something quite theraputic about a little rant every so often, I find!
  • :easter_osHello all

Happy Easter to you all. I am afraid the weather doesn't promise to be good here, but we will make the best of it.

Things are a little difficult at Candlelight Towers at the moment. as Himself is very poorly with kidney failure, subsequently has very swollen legs, feet and ankles and is on antibiotics to hopefully avoid leg ulcers. The GP was lovely with him, told him there was a lot going on in his body, but will try to sort it. He also has to take Vit D and the doctor has halved the dosage of one of his heart tablets because that can cause kidney failure as well.

He has to go for blood tests next Wednesday,I think the GP wanted to wait a few days to see if there was any improvement with the treatment he was giving him. He is also to have a blood test for heart failure as well, which is what I thought he had.

He is very tired most of the time but we are trying to keep cheerful. DGS and DGD2 will be coming round on Sunday to see their sister so that will cheer him up. It was her birthday last Monday so we are just having a small celebration with pizzas and cupcakes because they don't see their sister very often, and he loves to see them and hear them chattering.

I am at the hairdressers tomorrow, and if Himself isn't too bad he will have his cut as well.

Have a good weekend all, and remember not too many choccies :):)

    Love and hugs

    Candlelightx
  • Poor Mr.Candlelight, going through the mill at the moment and I suspect you're there too holding his hand my friend. Hope things improve quickly and that he feels better with the medication which will ease your burden as well. Nell is en route on the train and He Who Knows has just gone off in the car to collect her from the station. I've got a big pan of Bolognese Sauce simmering away on the hob, she asked for that when she came home, and the house smells of 'home' again like it used to when they all lived here, lovely! I'm nearly packed for Sweden on Sunday, just waiting for her to cast her experienced eyes over the pile and tell me what I'm missing! Looking forward to the trip very much but have to confess to a slight apprehension over airports at the present time, natural I suppose but I'm feeling like a wimp for it. I hope you have this lovely sunshine today, it really is nice outside and I've got 2 wash loads almost dry, love getting the dry washing in as it always smells so lovely.

Take care of yourselves, Lyn xxx.

Candlelight- I hope himself is hanging on in there and managed to enjoy some of the Easter weekend.

It was a bit mixed up here. Nice on Friday although very windy, miserable Saturdday and Sunday and sunny but bitterly cold today. I don't feel like I achieved a whole lot, some clearing up outside and a few cupboards tidied inside and that's about it.
My cold is on the retreat thankfully. I have to fly tomorrow and my ears are still sore so just hope they are ok. I'll be going armed with a supply of boiled sweets to suck on in the hope it helps.

I braved a Costco trip on Friday. That was hair raising. I had to complete 3 laps of the car park to find a space which set the scene for what was inside but I had used the diesel to get there so wasn't wasting it:o
It was so busy I left my trolley at the end of each aisle and ran up and down gathering what I needed. You have to keep your wits about you though, twice I had to stop people taking things from my trolley. I'm hoping what I bought will last 3 months so I don't have to repeat the experience. I don't know if it's just me getting older but everywhere seems ridiculously busy right now and I would rather be anywhere else than shopping.

I had a short walk today. Too cold to go far but a nearby farm has the first spring lambs in the district so I wanted to see them. They were sheltering from the wind behind the highest hedge but I could see through to them - Spring has definitely arrived now:)

    Hi everyone,

Candlelight - I'm so sorry to hear about what Himself is going through. I do hope the changes to his medication help and that DG has a lovely birthday celebration.

Poor old Alfie is in the wars. He's had surgery today to remove a lump from his shoulder and we're waiting to hear back from the lab as to what it was. He has also been declared very overweight (admittedly we were expecting that) and he is now on special food at $30 for a small bag. Feeding time is now a mission as we have to keep him from eating the others' left overs (how he got so fat) and stop them from eating his special stuff (too expensive for 3). Surgery including lab tets came to $699 - thank goodness for pet insurance!

Glad to hear spring is springing for you. Summer is slowly fading here but I want to hang onto it for as long as possible!

    Much love

    Hi everyone,

Well our clocks went back last night so winter must be well and truly on the way boo hoo. That said it was a screaming hot night, so I'm keen to hang onto the temperature for as long as we can.

Alfie seems to have recovered well from his op and was tormenting poor Izzy at 5am - the cats are v put out about the hour change and are demanding breakfast at 5am... I'll have to buy some more of the pheromone stuff - I think it's been about a month since the last one ran out so that's $68 saved by leaving it for a month before replacing it (they only last for 4 weeks).

I was very lucky and received a (very) early birthday present, to take advantge of a special offer. I got an indoor bike trainer to see me through the dark evenings of winter. It was orginally $1099 and was reduced to $299 as there is a new model coming out. I was expecting to pay around $600 for one so I wanted to snap that deal up. I used it twice on the weekend and can comfirm it was an extremely effective workout - far harder than being out on the road, and obviously much safer in the dark. I've got no excuses for not training when the weather's bad now! I found some great free workout videos on youtube.

Other than that it was a very quiet weekend - DH had 2 matches where he was the assistant referee on Saturday and then we were both in on Sunday.

    Better get to work!

    Much love, Hoglet xx
