Well, my dear friends funeral took place earlier this week. It was well attended and a really beautiful ceremony. We catered for the wake amongst ourselves and made sure it was done exactly as she would have arranged it. Now we just need to get social services working with us in terms of her husbands ongoing needs and we will feel a bit more able to move on.
Our weekend in London was a huge success. Mum was delighted with the hotel and we were upgraded to a better room which was a bonus. Buckingham Palace was definitely worth seeing and we spent most of Saturday in Hyde Park enjoying the glorious weather. Father and hubby survived without us but we're definitely glad to see us home.
I'm playing catch up this evening with household chores. I've been rather lax with the mending so I have a pair of trousers needing the hem fixed, two buttons dangling from garments and hubby has torn the knee of his working jeans. Thankfully nobody sees them much so as long as I patch them up the finer detail doesn't matter too much.
Will be back later in the week to catch up properly.0 -
SM I am pleased your friend's funeral went off as she would have wanted, you did her proud. Good luck with SS.
You sound as though you and Mum had a good weekend in London, although tiring I am sure, and the weather was kind to you as well.
I am sat here waiting for DGD2 to text me with her GCSE results, little monkey, she is probably celebrating. She already has an apprenticeship which she starts next week.
We had to pop to Mr T for a few provisions this morning, taking DGD2 to the hairdressers tomorrow morning. As far as I know nothing in particular planned for Saturday and then on Sunday taking 2 sisters and DHs, DGD1, Himself and little me out for lunch, so looking forward to that.
The nurse has just phoned from the surgery I am due for my asthma and BP check, so that is next Wednesday morning. I have no doubt I will be given a blood form as well, but that can wait until we have had our few days away at the beginning of September.
Hoglet hope you are well and the cats are behaving themselves.
Lyn I know you are busy with all your produce but don't forget to take time out as well. It is such good news about DD and the possible adoption, she must be absolutely thrilled.
Have a good day all

Fantastic news - so pleased for you.
SM - sorry for your loss..
So, I've been on holiday, then staying at Welsh house with DD and flitting back and forth between there and home and going to work occasionally too. The best bit about my job is its flexibility.
Got DS's GCSE's today.
The first text read
"Got a D in maths"
So I asked about the others
"Fine" was the reply. Boys, honestly :rotfl:
The maths is a bu88er and he will have to resit. The bigger shock was PE where he "only" got a C - it should have at least been a B. Another shock was A in History - which, as one of his A level choices is fantastic, we weren't expecting any As :T
He is rather gutted, but such is life - but can now see that the others are good and worth his hard work. Secretly I would like them to have been a bit better to reflect his work but he has never been the most gifted academically. The history shows that when he likes something, he can really apply himself. The maths also shows that :rotfl:
Strange weather innit - i wonder when we will get summer?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Next year???
Hope your lad has done well enough to go on to AS and A2 in the subjects he needs, maths is always tough but at least he's able to do a resit and hopefully results will be higher grades next time round. The 'A' for history is still pretty darned good though isn't it?0 -
Thank you VJs Mum
Well managed to get DGDs results via DGD1, who is at work
One A*, 3As, 5Bs and a C and that was for physics.
We are so pleased for her, but she said she wasn't bothered, she had a job to go to and she didn't have to stay on at school.
Well done VJs son, they are not all the same are they. DGD1 went to Uni and dropped out after a year and now has a very good job. DGS is going to Uni to read biomedical science, and little one has an apprenticeship, so in the same family they are all so different, yet clever in their own way. What a relief we are all individuals with different talents.

Morning, the Zebra is still poorly and I'm relieved that his mum is staying home with him this weekend as the plan was to camp at a festival and the weather forecast for where they were going is abysmal. DD1 says they may go and stay with her instead, a much better plan! Dad will go to the festival with friends instead.
We've to slip out this morning for a few out of the village errands which will be nice, I don't get out as much as I did when we had the Dockling and sometimes get 'cabin fever' from being constantly in one place, usually the kitchen work surface prepping something to freeze! A change of scenery will be pleasant. He Who Knows is off to the allotment to pick raspberries and I'm up to date in the garden so a day (well some of it) off is going to be nice.
Cool and grey here at the moment but due to cheer up a bit later on, have yourselves a nice day, Lyn xxx.0 -
What a wonderful day it is weatherwise today, we've a little breeze that's stopping it from being too hot and just a little light wispy cloud that's helping as well. He Who Knows is in the kitchen washing bottles to bottle up the first batch of cider, we've been given so many apples this year already that we're in danger of running out of fermentation vessels! He came back from his walk this morning with another carrier bag of windfall bramley apples so I'll be sorting them out and making puree when he's clear later on.
I've been trying for the last few weeks to prepare us healthy food and we've been very low carb, easy at this time of the year especially when we have so much home grown produce to use. A couple of days ago I really, really wanted some bread so I bought us a baguette and we had some for lunch, lovely, really enjoyed it until the evening when I had the most uncomfortable bout of indigestion I've had for some time. Thinking about it, when I cut out bread and wheat products I hadn't had my 'usual' indigestion for weeks!!! I've suffered for years, never twigging that my favourite food of bread cheese and an apple was the likely cause. No bread/wheat for the past 48 hours and I'm right as rain! I learned a big lesson from this, had no idea that bread/wheat is potentially the cause of the discomfort but it's easy enough to do without it, just have to think about what I put into the meal plan.
Never too old to learn are we?0 -
I noticed a big difference when I switched to a wheat free and gluten free diet. My IBS and colitis symptoms were much relieved, so. I must be one of the many people who have a sensitivity to wheat and/or gluten. I still have the odd bit of cake made with wheat flour, or a bit of normal wheat bread, but if I have too much I get cramps and bloating the next day.
I also lost a stone in weight because I am now less likely to pick at cakes and biscuits at work. One life - your life - live it!0 -
You'd have thought that in 67 years I'd have twigged before this wouldn't you? apparently not!!!!! So much better without so it might be a mild intolerance but now I know I can limit how much I have and hopefully stay comfy tummed!0
-
Me too, I believe I have an intolerance to gluten. I tried gluten free bread but it was awful and very expensive. I have given up bread mostly now, but occasionally I give in for some real bread. I have IBS, and by elimination I have found I can't eat bread, cakes and any kind of fizzy drink including fizzy water. It takes me ages to recover from an attack.
