    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi everyone!

Sorry for the long time since I last posted. Weather here is absolutely disgusting at the moment so I had a weekend of inside jobs. Started working on my 'memory quilt' too - putting together all the bits of old t shirts and stuff which I didn't want to throw away but were taking up far too much room in the cupboard.

Cats were thoroughly naughty - brought us a live mouse and flapped about with it under our bed at 5am on Sunday morning... The short version of the story is that I managed to capture it and release it outside.

Watched 2 rugby games this weekend too - free tickets for both. Then mostly inside chores for the rest of the weekend.

I do hope you're all well,

    Love Hoglet xxx
  • Breakfast in bed Hoglet- how can you complain:D I suppose really from the cat's point of view it was more breakfast under the bed!

I'm having a lunch break for a change so thought I would drop in. It will be quick though.

Been a strange week, bank holiday on Monday with less than inspiring weather then another funeral on Tuesday which was very sad. I rounded off Tuesday with some fence painting and then dropped in to see my friend who lost his wife recently. He wasn't having one of his best days so I'm glad to have had some time to spend with him reassuring him that there is no rush to deal with things. We did have a moment of light relief though- he asked if I cared to join him in smashing up some china. When I got to the bottom of that it turned out he thought charity shops only took complete and matching sets so was about to start breaking up lots of odd pieces. I've offered to take the mismatched crockery to the thrift shops as I'm sure it will be gratefully accepted. Maybe a smashing session would have been therapeutic though:)

I popped into Costco on the bank holiday for tea bags. Got slightly sidetracked though and treated myself to 180 spring bulbs. 90 mixed daffodils and 90 pastel tulips. They were around £22 in total which I though was good value. We have an area of the garden dug up at the moment to lay some cabling for outdoor lights so I figured we could throw the bulbs in before the area is back filled and that's a nice easy way to have some additional spring colour. There were lots of bulbs so it was very tempting - I may go back for more anemones, they are amongst my favourites.

Anyway, very short lunch break over now as I've eaten and had a cup of tea to warm me up. I can't seem to keep heat in my body at the moment so I do hope I'm not coming down with anything. I don't have time to be not well!

    Hope everyone is well.

  • Hello all, it's so nice to have the children back at school, going into town today was so much quieter and the shops were much easier to get around, I love this time of year too with the misty evenings and darker mornings and feeling cooler. It was nice today to want something with long sleeves on, I was chilly in bed last night too so I've put my 2.5 tog duvet on for tonight. The garden and allotment have been so productive this year we've got groaning freezers and the shelves of preserves and pickles are jam packed in the store room, it's beginning to slow down a little now which is nice. We do however have 6 rows of parsnips on the allotment and many rows of leeks there and here in the garden to see us through the winter months and we've sown lots of rows of carrots in the polytunnel which should be big enough to give us something fresh in February/March of next year. That along with 2 large patches of parsley will give us much needed vitamins in the dark cold months.

Wonderful news yesterday Ruthie and SIL have had an offer accepted on a lovely house with a fully enclosed back garden for the Zebra child to play in. I hope they can be installed by Christmas, it's in very good condition and although it's predominantly dark pink theamed will only need a little cosmetic adjustment to make it the way they like it. They even have a woodburner already installed, I'm so very happy for them.

Nell is coming home on the train NOW we're taking her for her birthday present tomorrow which is a day learning to shoot a Longbow, something she's always wanted to do. She did archery a few years ago and enjoyed it but Longbows are different, I hope she has a super day.Hope you have all been well and happy over the summer, hopefully with things getting back to routine we'll all be able to post a bit more often, Lyn xxx.

hopefully with things getting back to routine we'll all be able to post a bit more often, Lyn xxx.

    i will start :D

hello all - yes, I should be more back in the old routine now, having spent the summer to ing and fro ing from Wales. DD has gone to Southend for a few days - to her uni room in halls. Not sure if she has gone for a "holiday" or to reassure herself that it is still there. She and I are going to Hamlet next week :T and going to Memphis the Musical a few days later.

DS has started 6th form - so far so good :fingers: He looks very smart in his proper suit, the downside is that he really needs 2 - so more shopping.

I am about to embark on a month long healthy eating plan - it was supposed to be for september, but i don't have control over my food when i visit my dad, which I am doing tomorrow. So it's a monday start - mostly vegetarian, no alcohol, no grains (except oats), no sugar. I will see how it goes.

Hope you all have a great weekend.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Hi all,

I am returned from NOT so sunny Norfolk :):)

It was nice to have a short break and meet up with our old friends, but I am pleased to be home. It went really cold yesterday particularly with that cold Norfolk wind.

DGD1 says Flora missed us and she seems particularly affectionate to us this afternoon. Of course I have some washing to do but will do that tomorrow. I think we will just have soup and a sandwich for our meal this evening, we have eaten very well the last 3 days including a cooked breakfast each morning, so I think it is time to cut down a little.

I feel autumn is definitely upon us now and it may be time to think about battening down the hatches.

Lyn I am pleased DD and SIL have had an offer accepted, I do hope everything goes smoothly.

Well I think that is all for now, will be back later in the week.

    I hope everyone is well

    Much love

  • Evening playmates, we've just got back from a long but lovely day out. Nell has had fun making like Robin Hood all day (Shooting a Longbow course at the Weald and Downland) and has black bruise marks all along her left arm and in other places on the left side of her anatomy that we won't mention! We went and watched for a couple of the sessions and it was impressive, 12 people most of whom had not shot a bow before All knocking arrows and loosing them at targets fairly accurately, looked like a whole lot of fun. However, Nell is going to need some muscle rub tomorrow and has some arnica today and will need more at bedtime, she says it is worth it! We went to another museum near Arundel but it was very poor, none of the exhibits in a working museum were actually working and all was a bit careworn and unkempt so we drove back to Chichester and had a pootle and some lunch. We found a vintage fair and the hall had a tearoom open for the day so we had very nice food served in pleasant surroundings on beautiful unmatched crocks, it was lovely. Back home for an hour now and we've booked a supper at a nice local pub, Nell will sleep well tonight, I think we might too! It was really noticeable that the leaves are turning, particularly the beeches which are yellowing fast although the temperature has been warm enough to not need a coat. What does notice is how early it gets dark in the evenings these days, I feel autumn is on our doorstep and winter not too far away, makes me want to cook stews and light the fire and pull the curtains, and then snuggle in my armchair, bliss!!!

It does feel like autumn is upon us now, seems much darker earlier than usual at this time of year. Normally I notice a huge difference when we return from our holiday however we haven't gone yet and I already see it getting very dark early.

Sometimes on Saturday morning I drop into the gym after my weight training class and run on the treadmill. If I pick the right treadmill I get a birds eye view over one of the sports halls where an archery class takes place. I'm fascinated by how good the participants are and at how serious the equipment looks. It helps distract me and pass the time quicker too!

good news about the house MrsLW. The wood burner will be perfect for cosy evenings. We don't not have one however hubby got the offer of a tractor trailer load of chopped down trees earlier in the week so he gladly took it and we have given it to a friend who is delighted. We don't like to waste things if someone else can use them.

Tomorrow I plan some more fence painting if it is still dry although I find sometimes it's a bit too windy as I end up freckled with green fence paint. It's not a petty look:)

I may also harvest some of the bigger cooking apples from the trees tomorrow. The birds are beginning to peck them no whilst I'd rather leave them until October I don't wish them wasted so I saved some of the cardboard tray things earlier in the year and I will store them in the garage. I think I should cover them to keep them dark - hopefully that will help to keep them.

The big news today is that I think my Brussels sprouts finally have little knobbly bits on the stems. I'm guessing that is the sprouts which is very exciting!

Who knows what I may find tomorrow in the garden!

Hi all, been busy with the house. Got laminate flooring down in the conservatory and half the kitchen last weekend, still got the other half to do and it might not be until our week off in 2 weeks that we can finish it - the joys of living in a "project"!

Got a shoulder of lamb in the slow cooker for Sunday lunch tomorrow - my parents are coming up for the day.

Found out our local butcher does a whole lamb for £100 so may well do that as it seems very good value, is local and is butchered to your requirements.

Hope you are all well x
  • Hello all,

    Sorry for my long absence.

We had a lovely weekend celebrating my cousin's daughter's 10th birthday. It was at a geothermal pool with slides and loads of stuff for the kids to enjoy. The weather was cold tho!

More rugby on Sunday - we're having a terrible season but always glad of the free tix for matches. It was cold there too, and we lost!

Work has been busy, as has my little business. I'm enjoying it tho.

It looks like Socks is starting to over groom. I've found a few bald patches, epsecially on her tummy. I'll try to get to the bottom of it.

Spring really must be just around the corner - it's still cold here but there are the first signs of things appearing in the garden. I must do plan my planting!

    Must dash,

    love to you all,

    Hoglet x
  • Gosh, everyone is so busy right now. Some of us heading for autumn and some for spring. It's truly a worldwide community here:)

I finished up at work tonight for a few weeks. Off to the Rockies on Saturday after I've completed a very long list of tasks tomorrow. Haircuts, picking up clothes which were being altered, visiting friends before we go etc. I always provide friends and family with some home baking before we vanish so I have carrot cakes baked, meringues in the oven and chocolate cake to bake tomorrow.

Hopefully it will be dry tomorrow so I can also have the garden looking neat and tidy before we go.

Hope everyone is well, if I'm not back tomorrow I'll report back over the weekend once we've made it across the pond.
