  • Good morning all,

Good to hear from you SM. I imagine plenty of jobs waiting for you when you come home, have a safe journey.

Hoglet, what good news about the mortgage. You must be so excited about coming back to the UK for a while, we are having lovely weather just now, so I suppose you might call it the Indian summer we were promised. Everything seems to be going well for you at the moment, what with your little business, the house and being able to come back with work. Safe journey to you. Flora sends purrrrrrrrrrs to the cats.

AOT are you OK? The vitamin B12 I am taking seems to help with the tiredness, but I must admit I am being very strict with my diet as well. If I am not careful my blood sugar creeps up and of course that makes me tiredl. I think I have the beginnings of a cold so I have increased my inhalers to be sure I don't have a cough as well. Have you thought about Christmas yet, or is it too early? I have a few presents I have bought off Am*zon at a good price for friends, but the 3 grandchildren will want money anyway, together with some chocolates. They are all grown up now so it makes more sense to give them money so they can buy what they want.

DD is well, she has just had a cold but gone now. She is walking so much better now and with a lot less pain thank goodness.

BIL has to go for a heart scan tomorrow following the stroke he had some months ago, and in a couple of weeks will have a heart monitor fitted for 24 hours. He doesn't like hospitals at all so he isn't looking forward to it.

Lyn how is Cookie doing? Does she know when you are likely to be taking her out, because most dogs seem to have a sixth sense don't they? Is the Zebra child well?

Well have a good day all

    Much love

  • Morning CANDLELIGHT, Cookie is getting to know us and comes galumphing down the stairs from the flat when I call her, loving my walks and so is she. She's black and suffering a bit in this weather but will be more comfy when it cools down, meantime I keep her in the shade as much as I can.

Zebra is fine, they've just come back (midnight last night) from a weeks holiday in Sicily and it took an hour and a quarter to get through passport control, they got home at 4.30 this morning!!! Poor baby was Sooooo tired he just didn't know what to do with himself but they had a really lovely time and apparently he charmed people wherever he went, he's a floozie!!!

Gardens tailing down to autumn now, the beds are being cleared and dug over as crops finish and it all somehow looks smaller when it's not planted up. We have many rows of parsnips and leeks to see us through the winter, I pulled a leek from the garden to go in some soup for lunch and it was like a tree trunk, so white and beautiful, soup tastes amazing as I used home grown onion, tomatoes and butternut squash in it too, even the bay leaves were home grown, smashing!!!

Nell has just been through a school inspection, called at short notice for Tuesday last week, interim report from the Head on Friday afternoon said the inspectors were very happy and there are just a couple of recommendations to implement , full report will be given on Tuesday at the heads of department meeting, shorter version tomorrow morning in the common room. She's happy with that!!! she's currently in the garden with Pushycat on his harness terrorising the local crane fly population, he's a very odd boy!

Have a lovely Sunday, Lyn xxx.

Hoglet, that's great news about the mortgage rate. Every little bit makes a difference:)

Just a short post as I'm still across the pond. Due home soon though so starting to think about my "to do" list. According to my mother I will need to pick some of my apples soon or they will be falling from the tree. I'm going to have a look online to see if I can find any recipes for some apple alcohol (other than cider) as I'd like to make more hand made gifts for Christmas this year.

Take care all, catch up soon.

also been looking for recipes - here's what I've found so far:

  • Morning everyone,

Thanks SM and Candlelight! We have one more payment to make at the old rate and then the new one kicks in whilst I'm away. Thanks candlelight - yes things are ticking along nicely at the moment, although I'm not tkaing on any more work in my business until after I return now. Really looking forward to my trip, catching up with lots of people and I'm meeting some ladies from my book group who live near my hotel in London.

SM - that cupcake sounds delicious! I love anything apple and caramelly.

Thank Flora for the purrrrrs Candlelight - I hope she's well. Our clocks went forward over the weekend, aand it had the desired effect on the cats - I got a 5.50am wake up call rather than 4.30am this morning. I do hope the Indian Summer continues until I arrive!

I'm not doing much to the garden until after I return as DH will be left in charge and whilst he's very capable I know he'll hate dealing with seedlings. I'll sow my cut and come again lettuce in the wall planters before I go and that will be about it.

Finally discovered how to borrow ebooks from the library on my tablet and that's made a huge difference to my reading material. Just wonderful to be able to get great books without trying to fit around opening times (our library closes before I get home from work and is only open for a short time on Saturday).

    Better get onto some work,

    Much love to you all,

    Hoglet x
  • Afternoon all, we had such a nice walk this morning in the local arboretum just outside Romsey, lots of leaves on the turn, the colours were beautiful and warm sunshine to pootle round in, one of those days to remember in the middle of a November storm!

We had a nice long skype with that Zebra yesterday who demonstrated his vocabulary by yelling Oma when he saw me and Opa when he saw He Who Knows, blubbly is blueberry, yogyog is petit filous, and Cyril had me stumped until DD gave him some cheerios, unfortunately like Zebra I have a feeling that we'll be having Cyril for breakfast from now on!!!

It's another gorgeous day out there today and after the arboretum this morning I took Cookie across the common with Sue and Charlie retriever and back along the footpaths so I feel sun kissed and it's very pleasant indeed. He Who Knows is off to Nell for a couple of days to finish taking the branches from her back hedge (big old conifers) to the tip from when he cut them down and we have the sweep coming tomorrow morning so all will be ready for lighting the stove when it gets colder. I might make some spiced apple jelly too tomorrow, it's a good way of using the damaged apples from our tree, none of them look as though they'll keep this year and if I don't use them I'll lose them.

Hope you've all got this sunshine, Lyn xxx.
  • A lovely day here as well Lyn. The sun has been shining all day and quite warm.

I actually did the jobs I was going to do yesterday but never got round to it. I took all the bedding plants out of the tubs, refreshed the soil and planted the tulip bulbs. I swept up after myself because I can be a bit messy and general had a tidy around. The garden looks tidy if not a little bare now.

We have a garden waste collection this week so will be able to get rid of everything.

I think we are popping to Lidl for a few bits tomorrow, but I don't need much.

Meeting the "girls" from work on Thursday at We**erspoons so I think a nice steak will be in order. Himself and DGD will have a cottage pie which is in the freezer at the moment.

Lyn you obviously have a lovely time with Cookie, and my goodness that Zebra boy is coming on in leaps and bounds. You have so much pleasure now after such a sad time.

    Take care

    Much love

  • Good Evening Candlelight.
Glad the B12 is helping with tiredness. I have to see diabetic specialist at hospital as blood sugars not behaving themselves at all.:( The arthritis gives good and bad days as it chooses - its just a matter of being careful.
Unfortunately Friday was NOT a day that I was careful enough. On my way to visit a friend for the weekend when carelessness lead me to use the escalator instead of lift and my small weekend suitcase got stuck at top.
Result...one AOT down on back:eek: and one walking stick going full pelt down the whole thing. I know how to make a scene me!!!!
They had to use the emergency stop on the escalator. Took several members of staff and helpful fellow travellers to get me back on my feet. :rotfl::rotfl:
Could have been much worse - at least I didn't go backwards down the whole thing. But am shook up, scraped and bruised and have sworn never to use an escalator again.
Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.
  • Oh dear AOT you really will have to take more water with it :):) It could have been so much more serious, you poor thing, I am sure you are feeling a bit battered and sore so take things easy and use the lift next time. I am sure you gave everyone a scare as well as yourself.

My blood sugars are not behaving well either, and on one of Mardathur's posts she said her husband was taking cinnamon tablets which is known to lower blood sugar so I am trying those at the moment. Old age never comes alone does it.

Now look after yourself and sending you a gentle hug

    Much love

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning all,

I do hope youre all well.

We had a nice weekend, quite quiet tho. We had dinner with some friends on saturday night - got a chinese takeaway and ate together at ours rather than eating out together as we'd first planned, MUCH cheaper. (Yes I know I could have cooked...). Started thinking about what to take on my travels, and finalising plans to meet up with friends.

Small drama tho - washing machine broke! There was a terrible noise and we went to investigate....well actually the drum has fallen down on one side and the part we need is sourceable so that's a piece of good news or it was going to be $800+ for a washing machine.

Nice afternoon tea with my cousin yesterday and now I'm on final countdown. I've put lots of heat and eat dinners in the freezer for DH... he won't starve! I'm off on weds and back in late October.

Have a great few weeks everyone xxx
