Lyn it's sounding really rather positive for Olaf and his journey to eating again. You've nurtured that little piggy like only you can. My two girls are currently sitting with cabbage leaves hanging out of their hands as we have a new addition to our family. We have Misty, a lionhead black, white and grey rabbit that will be a house rabbit. The living room is rabbit proof and our new addition is building her confidence, freely with a few hop, skip and jumps thrown in for happy feeling new owners. Looking forward to learning about behaviour, training and bonding with her.
I would love to visit a fruit farm. The nearest I have been is to a PYO when the strawberries are in fruit.
Reminds me Lyn is there anything I should be doing to help the raspberry canes along?
kate I have never had a duck egg. Do they have a much different taste?
DH is taking the girls on a walk tomorrow while I get on with housework. I can't go as I have the emergency phone and need to be near home. I am looking forward to some time to myself but we'll see if that actually happens.0 -
How lovely, welcome to little Misty, hope you have lots of fun with her, I'll bet the girls are thrilled to bits with her, such good news. Olaf seems to be nose in the trough most of the time today, how much he's actully eating I can't tell, but he's trying. I'm going to help him along with some 'green goo' over the next few days too, he's eager for it and even licking the outside of the syringe now, so not having to force feed him which is good.
The raspberries don't need any help but if you have grass to mow, put the clippings round the canes, on the ground right up to the stems and this 'mulch' will keep roots moist and break down into the soil and feed them.
I'm feeling absolutely shattered this evening so I'm heading off to bed to read for a few minutes but probably to sleep sooner than later. I think it's having been on tenterhooks over Olaf and now not being on tenterhooks, sometimes when you relax you get that tiredness after a time of stress. Talk tomorrow, Lyn xxx.0 -
Duck eggs are larger than chickens eggs and quite rich, much stronger flavour than chickens eggs. I'm hopefully going to my folks next weekend so will take two dozen there which will make a dent.
My OH won't eat chickens eggs now as he's become so accustomed to them.
Fuddle, congrats on the new addition, how lovely. Bet the girls are thrilled
I'm sat here with a very purry cat on my lap, trying to tell me I should be giving her fuss, not typing on here! So this is taking a long time to type!
MrsL, glad to her Olaf seems to be eating well and thanks for that tip on using grass as a mulch.
We're unlikely to get much done in the way of growing our own this year but there is a veggie patch already which just needs weeding. There's some rhubarb in there but nothing else. Think we'll stick to runner beans and courgettes this year, easy to grow and provide prolificallyOh and maybe a row of carrots
Need to get all our fruit canes into pots so we can keep them alive until we decide where they will go but it probably won't be until next year.
So glad to have OH home for the weekend, it's really tough him being away all week. He's having a lie in at the moment, will take him up a cuppa a bit later.
oooh, just noticed I've got three stars now!0 -
Very happy, we've got a 1970s Parkray in the new (old!) house and when we tried lighting it recently it smoked us out. Got a chimney sweep out as we couldn't get the brushes up there and it was blocked by a bird nest.
He has pronounced it safe to use as long as we use it regularly to stop birds nesting again.
So we'll be having a fire tonight
Also got all fruit canes planted in pots and made two banana loaves. Used up 8 eggs so far today0 -
Oh KATE that's WONDERFUL!!!!!!! Just you wait and see, you are going to be as obsessed with collecting free wood as we are, welcome to the clan!!! Enjoy love, Lyn xxx.0
-
Oh MrsL, we had an open fire (actually two) at our old house so I am well-versed in scavenging, got lots of wood off freegle, used all the wood when our roof was replaced etc. I do love free heat
It's been so frustrating not being able to have a fire since we moved in as we brought all our wood pile with us!0 -
Slightly concerned about Olaf, he's very quiet today and hasn't been out to eat. Have just given him a syringe feed and he's gone back to have a nibble from his dry food but he doesn't seem to be able to chew properly. I've had the difficult conversation with Nell this morning and she agrees that if he doesn't pick up by tomorrow we might have to let him go for his sake, so sad, I'll feel guilty if we do but I just can't hit on anything to tempt him and I've tried ALL his favourites. Oh dear!0
-
Oh MrsL, what a horrible position to be in but at least you have Nell's support if it does come to that.
Hard as it is for us, we have to make sure they don't suffer.
Thinking of you x0 -
Oh Lyn, I am sorry, I was hoping he would pick up.
I know you will do what is best for dear Olaf.
Sending you lots of hugs
Much love

Morning everyone :-)
MLW - I'm so sorry to hear Olaf isnt eating again. Poor boy, I do hope he pulls through
Full-on weekend here - still havent made it back to the fruit farm owing to rain.
Saturday we had the swap party which was a great success. Got rid of heaps of stuff and came home with a cat bed, a pile of unused mens toiletries and a few little shower gels for me. I resisted the temptation to look at all the clothes as, free or not, I really don't have room for any more.
Got to home to find DH had done all the household choores - 3 loads of washing done, dried and folded, vacuuming dusting and mopping done.
Then yesterday I was at my craft club, came home and DH was preparing me a 3 course dinner, he'd washed the bed sheets, remade the bed and mowed the lawn. He is very definitely in my good books :-)
Cats are all behaving more or less, saw Alfie sauntering out of next door's house so no doubt he was helping himslef to some extra dinner, cheeky boy.
Dashed to the supermarket on Friday as I'd run out of flour and found 4 bags of filter coffee in the reduced bin. Happy dance!
Right, must dash, sorry
love Hoglet xx0
