Thank you, he's been a bit scathing about my attempts to get him to eat, gives me 'that' look and goes into his log roll with his back turned. I've tried to tempt him with all his favourites but I think he really is poorly this time and maybe we won't be able to fix him. Hope not but it has to be faced.0

I think piggies only live about six years or so, from what I remember my dad telling me. He and stepmum were very upset when little Squeaky died, but she had a good life. One life - your life - live it!0

Pig News.....Olaf the guinea pig, currently in medical treatment in the south of england today at lunchtime took 5mls of pureed carrot, not entirely voluntarily but when pinned tightly in a towel in the crook of his Omas arm and syringe fed he had little choice but to munch. Only somewhat orange coloured after this, both parties that is, he sulked in his cage for an hour but then miraculously slid out of his pod, made his wobbly little way to his dry food bowl and was last observed in the trough of Gerty Guinea Pig and chewing. Progress has been made and the consultant in charge is now somewhat hopeful of continued piggy existence YAHOOOOO!!!0

Forgive the drive by posting.
That is good news to read, may his progress continue apace.0 -
When is your daughter back to collect Olaf Lyn? I hope he continues to improve.
All is well in my world as I have just been handed a piece of fruit and nut and treat to the dishes being washed. At the moment those sound like ultimate heavenly treats! I think that is in the same category with looking forward to sleep time at 9pm

I'm watching the sewing bee at the moment. Golly this is nail biting stuff. It's just sad that anyone has to leave. I wish I could sew a fraction of what these guys can do. I wonder what they do with the clothes they make?
MrsLW - how is Olaf ? It's so worrying when you are looking after someone else's furry family. We were in a pet shop in holiday in Florida and they had the latest "trend" in guinea pigs - they were completely hairless and were called "skinny pigs". I was horrified, they looked so vulnerable and naked. Maybe it's ok because it's warmer out there but I so wanted to make them little jackets to keep them warm.
Disaster in the garden today - the massive pile of feathers makes me certain our Sparrowhawk had several victims. Makes me sad, even though that's just nature:(
Glad to see lots of extra faces on the thread, welcome along. The more the merrier:)
Hubby brought me home 8 turnips tonight. He was given a sack of them today so my mother got some and the rest came home. I'm boiling up some now to mash and freeze. I think I will need to buy some more of the little Lakeland plastic tubs, I'm running out!
I think we have a few milder days ahead of us here so I'm hoping some of my tiny narcissus will start to bloom soon.
Working from home tomorrow so I may find 5 minutes to post when I stop for lunch although I find when I work from home I work even longer as I start when I would leave the house and don't stop until I would normally get home and lunch breaks are rare!0 -
Hi MrsL, sorry to hear Olaf is still not right but hopefully he's on the mend now. It's funny what animals like to eat isn't it? My ducks love cucumber, courgette, marrow etc and when you throw them a lettuce they demolish it in seconds
11 eggs from the ducks this morning  Got half a dozen for sale at the gate but I still have nearly 6 dozen eggs - when OH is away all week they just don't get eaten.
Off for a meeting about 40 miles from home this morning hence the lazy start; I'm normally halfway to work by now
SM, I know what you mean, I work 8.00 to 4.30 but I work from home I log on at 7.30 and rarely finish before 5.00 plus I don't take a full lunch break. I get sooo much done when I work from home with no distractions!
Right, another cuppa I think.0 -
Morning all, pleased to find that Olaf actually standing IN his food bowl and munching merrily this morning when I came downstairs. He ate some dry last night too and had more 'green goo'. Vet visit today at 4.15 and I'm hoping she'll say keep trying and let us bring him back. These little furry critters really get into your heart and he's a little character.
KATE I had a cat once who liked cucumber and of all things LIQUORICE!! DDs Pushkin cat likes raw broccoli, who am I to argue?
Have just done 3 rounds with the pig, given medicine, force fed 7 mls of carrot puree and some water and put him back in his pod, straight into the trough where he's been for the past 15 minutes stuffing his little chops, I LOVE IT!!!
Vet happy with piggy and says more of the same will see him right!0 -
Hi everyone,
Another lovely day here, 2 loads of washing done, dried and put away.
Friends came to visit this afternoon (the friend who had to have a double bypass after a heart attack), looking much better. He has put on 10 pounds in weight and looks much better for it. He is determined his potatoes will go in on the allotment on St. Patrick's Day (he is Irish as well):) and I don't doubt he will do it.
FTM Sara I hadn't realised the twins were mono mono, I had to look it up to be sure I understood what it meant. What a good thing scans and the like are here, and the Doctors know what they are dealing with. I am sure everything will be fine, they obviously will be well prepared. So many things going on in your life at the moment, sending love and hugs to you all.
Lyn so glad Olaf seems to have turned a corner, it must be all that love you are giving him.
Kate what on earth will you do with 6 dozen eggs, lots of cake?:):):) I have never tried a duck egg, I have seen them for sale in our local Farmer's Market but never bought any.
De-cluttering the box room at the moment. I took a load of craft stuff to the Hospice shop the other day, but still more things to sort, I have to do this when Himself isn't looking because he has been known to have hoarding tendencies.
Just a small amount of shopping to do tomorrow but otherwise as far as I know a quiet weekend
Hoglet I hope you have managed to get to the fruit farm again, the only trouble with that is you have to process it all at home which can be quite hard work unless you are eating it fresh.
Have a good weekend everyone and stay safe
Much love
