Hi MrsL, are you feeling better?
I've ordered my slow cooker - getting it from Tesco's as they did have the one I wanted after all so it's completely free! Collect on Monday.
I've been too superstitious to tell you all before but we have found a house we want to buy, have had the offer accepted and just got our mortgage offer through this week.
It needs LOTS of work which will take years and we'll need too save up and do a bit, save up and do a bit so need to really get in the OS habit now.
We could potentially move before Christmas so we haven't got long to get organised. Am trying to use up stocks from larder and freezer - just found 3 bags of dried chickpeas and 3 bags of green lentils, I don't think we can use that much before we move!
Will no doubt be looking for inspiration on using random things up over the coming weeks.0 -
Hello all..
Kate wow well done am so pleased for you babe..o you are going to have so much fun doing up your new home..xxxx..
MLW..o my gosh that sounds gorgeous..i can almost smell it from here..our neighbour goes shooting and often brings me rabbits(fur and all)..and 2 pheasants last year..am hoping he does again this year..we had one roasted for Boxing day..
Had a different day to one i planned..i was so up for baking but then it fizzled out..so rather than trudge through it i finished knitting Iris's rainbow scarf and watched rugby..will do my baking on Monday..feel very tired all of a sudden.
I have just read that we are going to get a surge of storms next week..with gale force winds..lovely,
I have just received my wall quotes i bought a while ago..i am planning on putting it up om my fireplace wall..it reads "Family..like the branches on a tree,we all grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one"..it was only 89p from china..i am going to move my mirror down the wall and sit it on my mantel piece with little mirror brackets holding it in place,so i can have the quote above it for all to read..
Simon has today treated us all to new slippers..they are lovely..unfortunately they are all white even the bottoms are white..i can see them being constantly washed..never mind.
right i am going to go to bed am tired and fed up with sore throat..
take care all of you
love

FTM love rabbits and don't mind them in the fur or pheasants to pluck and gut either, grew up doing it all and the fish dad used to catch. Wish I had a supply of fresh wildies though, it's my favourite meat!
KATE much better thanks love, just have an annoying cough that's full of glue now, I'll soon see it off, I always do, Lyn xxx.
Just seen your post regarding the slow cooker, RESULT!!!!! wonderful getting something that good for free isn't it? well done you!0 -
Good afternoon all,
A lovely day today, blue sky, but cool, beginning t get dark now.
Had a good day yesterday at the NEC but it was very hot and crowded. There certainly were not as many stalls this year and I only bought a couple of things and DGD didn't find anything she wanted. She came back to our house and stayed until amost 7 o clock, she is such good company.
Have just been wrapping up some Christmas oresents, and I am going to watch the Polar Express shortly on channel 5. I have seen it several times but I absolutely love it, I think it is so clever.
Kate well done you, how lovely to have your own home. It doesn't matter how long it takes to do the work, most of us have had ongoing projects, but you kniw at the end of the day it is yours and you have both worked hard to achieve it.
FTM I am sorry your throat isn't good again. DGD2 is now poorly with this awful virus. I texted her today to see how she was, and she said everytime she stands up she goes dizzy and her throat is really sore. New slippers sound good, DD1 wants some slipper boots so I will buy her a pair as part of her Christmas present
Lyn poor Docky I am so sorry he was disturbed last night by those clowns, I do hope the fireworks are over with now.
Hoglet hello, I suppose you have had a really busy weekend as usual, and you will be back in work shortly. I hope the weather has been better for you, no two days here are the same.
SMhave you been on your travels this week?
Have a good evening everyone
Much love

Morning everyone :-)
Kate - many congratulations on finding a house - I hope it goes smoothly for you. Our list of things to be done to the house has grown considerably since we bought it, and much of it keeps getting put off, so don't worry at all about taking time to do bits up as and when you have the money.
MLW - ooooh jealousy from me over the pheasant :-) I don't think we have them here so haven't had it in years. It all sounds delicious.
Candlelight - that's a shame that you didn't find much at the craft show. I remeber how hot the NEC got during shows - not comfortable is it? We used to go to the food show often, mmmmmm yummy.
Well yes you will all be surpirsed to know that I had a (relatively) busy weekend! DH was reffing rugby 7s all day on Saturday so he was in bits by the time he got home. I had some errands to run which I did on my bike, 2 cats needed new collars - where on earth do they put them? But anyway, that was a nice bike ride up the back streets to the pet shop. Got lots of housework done and even managed to sit in the garden with a book. Made a little platter of nibbles for DH and I to share when he got in, so we could sit in the garden together and enjoy the evening, then a burger each from the wheelbarrow of meat we won last week, with roasted NZ yams (little red things, look a bit like jerusalem artichokes, very sweet flavour).
Well Sunday was just wonderful - went out to our local A&P show and the plant stall there was giving away everything for free. Oh my, if only I hadn't already planted so much! Nonetheless, I got 18 lettuces in 3 different varieties, about 20 beetroot seedlings, 60 or so red onions, tarragon, basil, another 6 tomatoes and another 6 chillies. That's it we are FULL! We could not believe that the stall were giving so much away - we thanked the man and asked if he was sure he didn't want any money and he just said 'no worries' and gave us a smile. Absolutely made my weekend.
There waws another stall selling a community cookbook raising money for the local school, which we bought as we felt we should contribute. The wine and food tent had reduced everything to $5 also, so we ate great boxes of anitpasti and cheese, put together by a local restaurant. It was very fancy, and an absolute bargain. They were selling glasses of local wine (also $5), although the lady came round with tasters so often we hardly needed to buy any at all.
We had a good wander round and looked at all the exhibits, lots of animals being shown, and some handicrafts too - I intend on entering that competition next year. The animals were in such wonderful condition, obviously lots of work had gone into preparing them.
The weather was absolutly gorgeous - barely a cloud in the sky and around 24 degrees all weekend. Aparently there are storms coming tho - we have been warned not to think summer is here yet! I got everything planted out when we came home, and got my pea seedligns squeezed in. The jury is still out on where exactly I'll be planting my carrots - possibly in an upright bag of potting compost I have spare..
I'm still going out on slug patrol which seems to be winning the overall war if not the individual battles. I'm hoping there's now so much in the garden that they can't eat it all.... surely??!
Right, that really is enough from me, hope you all have a lovely rest of your weekend.
Love Hoglet x0 -
Evening all.
Candlelight - I was indeed on my travels this week. A day in London. I was in the Southwark area and had an hour to spare so I thought of taking a lunch hour (although my company pretty much regards that as an hour of unpaid work, not time for me to fritter on myself!) and going to see the poppies at the tower however I wasn't at all convinced I wouldn't get myself lost so I didn't go and I really wish I had. My sense of direction in London seems to go all to hell in a handcart!
FTM - hope you are feeling a bit better now. You seem to be having a miserable time.
Kate- that's great news, very exciting and sounds like you will be busy for the next 7 weeks. (Apparently that's how close Christmas is - I've got my fingers in my ears though and am pretending its miles away. The weather is still to mild to think of the C word)
Hoglet - I feel your pain on the slug war, I'm waging my own here and I think the slugs are trouncing me:(
MrsLW-hopefully we have heard the last of those fireworks now so our four legged companions can relax a bit.
I gathered up the last of the tomatoes from the greenhouse today and made tomato and wild rice soup. It's very creamy as I added evaporated milk and a little thick so I have the bread maker churning away with a nice French loaf for tomorrow and I think the soup and bread will be quite sufficient for dinner.
I need to tackle some sewing now - hubby has managed to "lengthen" the sleeves on one of his working sweatshirts to the extent it needs to have 4 inches taken off each sleeve. I'm torn between just trimming a bit off and hand stitching the hem back or texting SIL to see if she still has her old sewing machine. Hubby says hand stitch will be fine or maybe I could use granny's old treadle singer which I have. Truth be told that old machine terrifies me so I think a SIL will be getting a text first!
Enjoy the last of the weekend ( and the start of a new week for those a bit ahead!)0 -

Hello all..
Candlelight..its so sad..she always left her thanks bless her.
What a shame you didn't find any bargains at the craft fair..but at least you had a good day with your grand-daughter..o i hope your other grand -daughter is feeling better..I love the Polar Express film..i have it on DVD and watch it a few times in the run up to christmas...i have got a real bargain for the girls for christmas..almost £300 worth of Sylvanian families..for £80..all in the boxes wow so good..thats a majority done..just going to get them a frozen doll and a minion each plus some little bits and pieces and they are done.
I have great news about Annie and her babies..her second scan shows they are identical and growing nicely..bless her she is still in total shock..she is starting to relax more now..even got a little bump..
Hoglet wow girl you take my breath away with how busy you are..the market sounds just amazing..i bet your garden is going to be so full and fill you with good food all summer long..
MLW..next time he brings me rabbits i will have to man up and do them myself..thing is everyone eats them but i haven't been truthful about what kind of meat it is;)..am hoping docky dog is all well now and calming down after the fireworks..we are still having some go off around here..
SM..helloo..i am feeling much better..the medicine is working well..tastes vile enough to knock out a rhino..i love my old crank handle sewing machine..the electric one scares me to death its too fast for me..i like slow and steady..i have been good and sewn on new buttons for a cardigan and put on one that fell off on iris's favourite little trousers..how do you manage to lengthen arms??? did he pull them???..
We had a lovely day yesterday..we made our own poppies from paper plates and the girls took their time and painted a lovely field of poppies each..we then had a talk about why we wear poppies and how we should never forget the men and women who fought and died so we could be free..we watched the ceremony on tv and the girls were very touched..Fern had tears and so did i? Iris is a bit small..but when her daddy asked her what she had been doing all day she told him.." we made poppies for all the people who died for me and fern"..o so sweet..
Right am off to sort my washing and get girls work done.
love to you all

Vetty visit today at 4.15 with the senior vet at the practise to talk things through. Docky is a poor old boy at the moment and very confused and scared or everything, it's hard to watch him just trying to be!!! He's refusing his medication and being sick quite a lot too so I really wonder if the cancer might have spread. I'll go open minded and listen to the advice and information we're given. I so hope we can change medication and that will make a difference but his life quality is so very low that if nothing can be done to improve it we have a big decision to ponder through and make. Life is sometimes not the way you want it to be but we're his 'parents' and as such are responsible for what is best for him, not for us. Think of us this afternoon, Lyn xxx.0
