Morning everyone :-)
Candlelight - your casserole sounds lovely. Yes the horse poo in the car was a bit ripe - I have found another place nearby selling 'aged' horse manure for the same price, so that should smell better. I have to say it has rotted down extremely quickly into the compost heap and there is no smell there at all now (after a few days of smelling like a horse had drunk a lot of coffee...!)
FTM - ouch! I hope you are feeling much better soon - dental work can really make you feel bad.
MLW - lovely to hear how good your garden has been to you this summer. I remember the problem last summer of needing to make jams and chutneys and it just being far too hot in the kitchen.
Well that was an exceptionally busy weekend, and the clocks have gone forward so nice light evenings again, although it's still dark this morning and I've been at work for half an hour already.
On Friday night I got a text from my cousin saying that the school our friend's daughter goes to was having its Ag Day on Saturday and didn't have enough helpers, would I be able to pitch in? I really wanted to get some gardening in but dind't need to be at the school till 10, so Saturday I was into the first garden centre at 8 am and the second one before 9. Ran home and unloaded it all into the garden before shooting off to the school. Helped out in the cafe (no sorry madam, we are a school small temporary cafe, we can't do you a soy mochaccino) and on the mini golf game where the biggest prize was won by a 5 year old girl.
Back home in time to get some things planted and then off to watch our rugby team (they did lose last week FTM but only just, and won very convincingly this week - 55-7!!). Time for a quick Skype call to my parents before falling asleep well before 10pm.
Sunday was another 2 (!) trips to a different garden centre, and I really do have enough plants, seeds, fertilizer and potting mix now... (famous last words!) DH put up a trellis, 4 wall planters and a hanging basket. I was merrily digging up some very overgrown oregano to make foom for other things, shoved my fork into the ground and heard a huge crack.......! Argh! A bit of quick digging revealed that the drain pipe from the gutter ran not a foot under the soil in my veg patch, and it now had a very large hole in it...... EEEEEKKKK! We shot up to the hardware store fearing that we would be digging up the lawn to find the pipe connection... Anyway a very nice man pointed us towards a collar that can be attached around the pipe, and as it is not under pressure we should be ok with that. PHEW! Ran home quickly as rain was forecast, got digging some more to fit the collar around the pipe, and it seems to be OK. Dumped some compost on top and you'd never know.......
Anyway, so that interrupted my planting a wee bit!
So at the end of all that I now have... a dwarf mandarin tree, cut and come again lettuce of different types, mizuna, rocket, basil (lots), tarragon, spring onions, dill, chives, Vietnamese mint, normal mint (in a pot!), strawberries, tomatoes of different types, including 2 tumbling ones in a hanging basket, 4 different types of chillies, sage, green beans, purple beans and I have replanted my vine in the ground with a trellis, as opposed to in a pot where it was not happy, and replanted my bay tree. Everything has good soil and fertilizer in with it, the main plant beds have been enriched with sheep manure and blood and bone. Gave the established passionfruit and lime tree a good feed too. I still have a packet of heritage carrot seeds, pea seeds and 6 tomato seedlings I don't know where to put...
My cousin went to have another look at the house next door but it is under offer already sadly. Had a nice sit down and catch up with her over a cup of tea, whilst DH and her son watched rugby. Then the freeezer needed restocking so I got onto 4 portions of chicken dopiaza, 4 portions of chicken passanda, 4 portions of soup all for the freezer and an egg curry for dinner last night.
I'm shattered, Ithink I've come back to work this morning for a break! Can I have another weekend please?!
Right, best get onto doing some work, love to you all,
Hoglet x0 -

FTM Sara I am so sorry about Fionna, but I am sure she will have the best possible medical attention, and all the love and support from you all. She is so young to be having such a worry, but there again hopefully age is on her side. Wrap her in your love and please tell her your friends here are thinking about her.
I am sorry you had to have the tooth out after going through the partial root canal, but you will be free from pain now.
We understand you won't be spending much time on here, but if now and again you can let us know how Fionna is.
Much love and hugs to you all and sending positive vibes to Fionna for a quick recovery.

Hello all,
Not a bad day morning, weather overcast but managed to put a wash out.
Had my nails done this morning, and Himself went on to DD to have a coffee with her before picking me up. We then called into the surgery to pick her prescription up, and now just having a spot of lunch.
Well it has been 10 days since I started eating gluten free bread, biscuits, pasta and baking with GF flour and I can't tell you how much better I feel. I know I don't, thankfully. have coeliac disease, but I do think I have an intolerance to wheat and gluten. I am experimenting with baking with GF flour, sometimes fine, sometimes not, I think it will come with practice. I know you have to put more liquid with GF flour than you do with ordinary.
I don't know why I didn't think of this before because i always felt sick and bloated after eating bread, and weetabix for breakfast. Anyway onwards and upwards and see how it goes.
.
FTM sending masses of love and hugs to you all and especially to Fionna and hope she starts her treatment soon.
Much love to everyone because we never know what is round the corner
