Hi again..
15 minute scones
2 cups sr flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp butter
1 cup of milk
Rub the butter into the flour, grab a butter knife i use a blunt one, add sugar and milk.Use the knife to mix it until a dough forms.
Turn onto a floured board . Do not knead it or roll at all...all i do is flatten it a little with hands.Cut out the scones with your cutter.Pop into a hot oven for 12 mins or until you think they are done.
GAS MARK 9..and bingo quick scones..
I make these literally now on a daily basis..have added grated cheese too..also tried it with sultanas..very good but you need to keep an eye on them in the oven..
enjoy and remember life is too short to knead lol

FTM - I've so been there with the wshing machine which didn't fit. When we came to fit ours into the utility room in our new house we discovered the fitter had miscalculated by about half an inch. Hubby had to "shave" the skirting board to get it in. Thankfully nobody ever looks at the side of the washing machine but if they did there is a hacked to bits piece of wood!
I'm planning to make scones tomorrow- I'll make the Delia ones - only because I have buttermilk to use up. The use by date was yesterday but I'm sure it will be fine.
I didn't get much in the way of whoopsies at Asda today - just some noodles. I did however see some :eek:price rises - Romaine lettuce is up 38p on last week, the Activia yoghurt "rollback" has gone and it's 98p more expensive for an 8 pack, own brand tuna in spring water was up 27p per tin, Jacobs cream crackers were over £1 so I left them on the shelf.
Hubby is never sure what I'm buying from week to week as I simply won't pay more than a certain amount for most things.
I suppose it means we have a varied diet!
I need to run a 90 wash on my machine, a few loads of white towels and sheets haven't been totally white so time to clean it out. Sometimes I put soda crystals in, sometimes I do without - not sure if it makes any difference to be honest.
I noticed today I finally have a few crocuses coming out so I have some colour in the garden - woo hoo:) I've been waiting impatiently for them.
Looking forward to a relaxing weekend I hope. Some baking would be therapeutic - I'm also thinking about some iced gingerbread -mmmmm0 -
scottishminnie: I often use washing soda crystals on a 90degree wash. I believe it helps remove limescale (and much cheaper that the branded version).Normal people worry me.0

FLOWERTOTMUM: thanks for the recipe. It looks like it is lower in fat than normal scones? That would be good.

ftm, I just made your scone recipe as the oven was on for our hm pizza. Wow, dead easy to make and delicious to eat. I found I needed a little more flour and I will probably use my mixer next time as I ended up using my hands to breadcrumb and the knife when the milk was added. Very light but I only got 6 out of the mixture and then they rose to massive proportions so I could go thinner.
Will try these again definitely!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
Evening all...
Scottishminnie..ooh i could have kicked myself when it didn't fit...nevermind you live and learn as they say...hopefully it will fit when we move kitchen around next week...hubby has been amazing and has bought me a new dinner set..i know not very romantic but it means a lot to me..its a spotty one lmao..i love the polka dot type things so i was surprised when he gave me it..love that man.We also have some crocus popping up and some of my snowdrops too..my little daffs are coming along well too..spring is springing.
Kaz2904..i love these scones..i am very rough with the mix..i re-work the dough and can get a couple more out of it..they disappear very quickly when they cool down..
Had a quiet day today, hubby went to lidl's and was surprised how busy it was..had a mishap with fern's school coat..put it in washer with iris's coat and when it came out it was covered in fluff..took ages to remove it all...good job i had lots of tape..all done now and clean for school..also polished all the boots and shoes i could get my hands on..love doing that job..think i am addicted to the smell of shoe polish(joke)..but i do like to see nice clean polished shoes..looks like you care.
Made some palmiers for tea and stuffed them with HM jam and whipped cream..so naughty but lovely..we had tortillas filled with cold chicken and a variety of toppings for lunch..tots love coleslaw with theirs..bless em..
Right i'm off to put my feet up have a cuppa and eat a lion bar..
take care all

I'm not familiar with palmiers. I will have to have a little look. Need to get me some more eggs as I only have 4 at the moment. We had poached eggs with kale, bacon and smoked salmon for tea Thursday night which was delicious but used 8 eggs. I'll need eggs for making some cakes.
If I was to make a victoria sponge cake (the recipe on the flour packet says to use two tins), could I cook the whole thing in one tin and then cut it across the centre to add jam and ice it? I only have one tin but would like to make a split cake. Am thinking chocolate with coffee icing but don't know if I have enough cocoa powder.
Does anyone know, can you make citrus butter icing?Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

oh my what a perfect and lovely `fresh start` day
Today I sowed my tomato seeds and all in just one root trainer tray, ferline, strillo and alicante and they are sitting in a propagator at 20. Propagator isn`t needed if you can retain 18-20 and in that case just sow in a plant pot, cover lightly and pop into a poly bag tied at the very top and kept out of the sun. Broad bean witkiem sown outside, also in root trainers and basil indoors.
Lots of washing also blowing in the breeze, so a very good day today
Its hungry gap time re home grown stuff and it continues to may so its good to see the kale awakening again and I`ll now be switching to my dehydrated roots (slices) and rice and so on. Main crop potatoes have now lost their vitamin c so only worth using as a filler anyway but I haven`t any left as I part roasted and froze them. I`ve got my planting plan sorted for next year but now I am wondering how on earth I`m going to get through my mountain of home preserved foods. I can see lots of minestrone type soups coming up as well as `all sorts` lasagne. Heck I have to make freezer space for rhubarb soon or I suppose I`ll be bottling again
The air filter/purifier is working well and I did an accidental test this morning. I sprayed a little tova perfume mist over me and the purifier immediately went up the powers from quiet to medium to high and the pollution light came on. Tbh, I was very impressed and am now very happy to leave it ticking away on auto, it makes the bedroom air nice and fresh even with all vents closed
The spice drawer is done and is amazing, honestly I find it uplifting just to look at it. I have 40 100 ml tins in there plus 18 30ml tins plus 12 essences and colourings down the side. All labelled in colours and all in a drawer just 30 x 40 cm. Most are filled. Naturally I have had to sort out two drawers to accomodate the stuff I took out but it is all done now and in the process I managed to tell dh that there is a lovely lot of room for a worktop food mixer now. Lol, the seed is sown in his head so no surprises for him when my new almond kmix arrives on wednesday. I learnt long ago, just to sow the seed and then leave it. I can`t wait to have proper baking sessions again, there just wasn`t the incentive when mixing by hand.0 -
It's lovely here. DH has been out with the little ones to buy compost today to start off his seedlings. Hopefully he isn't going to take over my entire kitchen and utility room this year as he usually does and then I can't actually prepare a meal or get the washing done without great difficulty
. I think he's giving all of the seedlings to his mum this year to put down at her allotment as she always says she has space. I might actually get some flowers this year in my garden. I love home grown stuff but nothing has grown well in our garden for the last few years. Lets hope we get better results this year with just some lettuces in pots and some flowers around the edges.
Thanks for the tips about the cake and the icing. I just need to decide what flavour combinations I'm going for now.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
