  • We had the chickenpox when my youngest DD was 1 so did all her little friends so we went ahead and had the party anyway . This was back in the early 80s - we had choc chip cookies, a choc chip birthday cake and hundreds and thousands in the jelly so everything was spotty. Everyone joined in the general theme and she got Spot the Dog books and toys from everyone. As much fun as you could have - given the circumstances! FTM hope your littlies (and you) feel much better very soon. Cheers Lyn.

Hi all, mind me crashing in? Hello to everyone and those with poorly kids, hope they get better soon.

What a lovely day - got two loads of washing on the line and have started to sort out the greenhouse which gets used to store wood and kindling over the winter plus the garden table is in there. Luckily it's a big greenhouse (8' x 12') otherwise it wouldn't all fit LOL.

Feeling rather motivated today but I keep starting things which I need to leave so as well as doing the greenhouse I am cleaning the bathroom - need to leave the viakal on as there is a really stubborn water stain in the bath. My mission today is to finish what I start - I'm really not a starter/finisher :D

OH and I had a long chat last weekend and we've set ourselves a target of starting to look for a house next March so we have something to aim for. Between now and then we need to seriously declutter as I am not moving all this carp, plus anything we sell will go towards the deposit, this includes a motorbike (possibly 2!) and a car which OH is breaking. So will be taking advantage of free listing on eBay this weekend, although don't think it applies to vehicles which is a shame.

Right, back to the bathroom to see if I can finish that!
  • FTM - hope the girls are better soon. I remember having chickenpox all too well despite it being many years ago. Mum kept plastering me in calamine lotion which dried hard and then cracked and she hovered over me to make sure I didn't pick any of the scabs. Despit her best efforts one on my face fell off overnight, probably rubbed off on the pillow, and I remember her crying and saying how I'd be scarred for life. It's barely noticeable now in among the crows feet and wrinkles but I do remember how upset she was.

Katep23 - I'm envious of your nice weather. We had pi**ling rain all day so the washing had to go in the dryer which was really frustrating. I have a superking size duvet cover, pure white with a satin stripe, took over an hour to iron to my satisfaction on removing from the dryer and the annoying thing is that once we've slept overnight it will have creases and wrinkles again. I've never worked out how to avoid it - maybe I just need to be less obsessive about some things:o

It was so miserable I decided to have a rummage round a local antiques place. I picked up some silver serving spoons and 2 little crystal dishes which will be perfect for butter when we have guests. Got the lot for £30 which was a bit of a splurge but I will use them all and I felt pleased to be buying something preloved rather than brand new. I could have bought lots more but I resisted- for once!

Hubby made me smile earlier - I made him banana split for dessert and he was almost licking the plate. I couldn't help think of the times I've slaved over tricky desserts and a simple dish went down a storm. Actually I really enjoyed mine too - hadn't had anything like it in years.

I have some sour cream to use up tomorrow so it will be a loaf of some description - not sure what kind, will have to ponder that one over a G&T later tonight. My mum gave me her read copy of Woman and Home so I'm thinking about lying in the bath with magazine and drink. It's so rare for me to have a bath as opposed to a shower that I often have to dust it! It's one of those jacuzzi ones which we had installed when we built the house - biggest waste of money ever. Even when I use the bath I don't use the jacuzzi and on the odd occasion I do I immediately realise how noisy it is and turn it off. I wonder if anyone else really uses theirs - seemed like a great idea at the time!

Scottishminnie, they had one of those jacuzzi baths (a corner one) in the bathroom when I was in labour with DD. They filled it up for me and I got in, they turned on the bubbles and it was terrible! I made DH turn it off the second she left the room. The pain from the bubbles hitting my bump was excruciating. I think I managed about 2 minutes in the bath :o. That's what labouring does to you I suppose!

Looks like another nice day here (sorry Scottishminnie! :D) so hopefully get last two loads out on the line to dry and save using the TD.

Was pleased with all I got done yesterday - bathroom was cleaned, got 3 patio fruit trees planted in half barrels (the other 3 have started coming into bud in the greenhouse so presume I will have to leave them until they go dormant), got potting table put up in greenhouse ready to start sowing today, emptied one of our darlek (sp?) composters which was almost full of lovely compost so used that to pot up fruit trees and fill potato bags for the greenhouse.

Popped into town yesterday to pick up some boots which were sent off for repair (only cost £5 to repair and I bought them from a charity shop for £5 so not bad really) and HAD to go into the charity shops whilst I was there. Got a lovely suit for £8 and lots of work trousers, a brand new really lovely long black cardigan for £6 and a couple of books. OH caught me trying to sneak them in without him noticing - so much for decluttering! :rotfl:

Off to have some porridge then out into the greenhouse to start sowing I think.
  • I already put the chillis and peppers out for today, so so early but you have to go with the weather that is given. Teeny tomato seedlings went out yesterday and I was watching them tremble in the gentle warm breeze, that will strengthen their stems and build up the special cells for support and it is what seedlings don`t get indoors. You can very gently brush your hand over them, which helps. They are still in and I am watching the temperature, they`ll probably go out in an hour

4lb of bread dough made and proving, a litre of yoghurt made and lunch sorted. I want to go to the allotment but need to keep an eye on the dough. Oh I used the active yeast in a tub today after years and years of the instant yeast. It is so much better because you see the yeast activity before you start. I do have a bm and it is great for when I can`t be bothered making dough the old way and I`ll use it until it dies but I won`t replace it. Tbh, I`ll be glad to see the back of that instant yeast and I dislike the hole in the bottom of the bread

Today I`ll be taking off the old strawberry leaves and uncovering the spring cabbages. I think they (cabbages) need a feed as winter has been so mild. Either miracle gro or a nitrate, depends what I have in

I was just looking at my old ottobre magazines. They are amazingly fab if you can sow and have children to sow for, all multi size patterns are included. Designs you only get in high end shops
  • What a beautiful day it's been, we lit up 'Fatima' our OzPig outdoor woodburner and I cooked sausage and bacon stew which we ate in the sun, sitting by the pond. Why does everything taste better outdoors? Walked the lurcher afterwards and we have blackthorn hedges out in full blossom and celandines and today even some early speedwell on the sunny corners, heavenly. Hope everyone has had a good day. Cheers Lyn.
