Morning everyone :-)
Candlelight - sorry to hear you are having slug problems. I battle them also, and also will not put slug pellets down. The best thing I have found is a slug trap which you sink into the ground and pour in some beer and a bit of sugar and they drop into that and die, without the problems associated with pellets. Just have to sneak the beer past DH who is never too impressed to see it being fed to the slugs and not him!
We were into single figures temperature wise last night - brrrr. Little ceramic heater holding up ok tho, so our bedroom was comfortable enough. Insulation people have been to audit the work that was done and it's all fine so I'd better pay the remainder of the balance now.
2 furry bodies under the duvet last night - tho Alfie has yet to learn that !!!!! cats who snuggle up and go to sleep under the duvet are very welcome, whilst those who run up and down the backs of legs before pouncing on feet are not...
DH off to do the shopping tonight and the veg box has been suitably doctored so that I don't have to think up more things to go with cabbage... the onions I've swapped it for will be far more useful in our house. I had a major soup failure earlier on in the week - potato leek and parsley which I've made plenty of times before but - eugh! It's rare that I can't eat something I've made but that was vile. Corn chowder today for DH which should be fine (!) and I've got avocado on toast, the avo was gifted to us by a neighbour before they went on holiday, so almost free lunch :-)
Probably going to be another souffle omelette for tea tonight, and hopefully I'll get home before it gets too dark to go for a run.

Morning all, I'm off to DD1 for another concert this weekend and back again on Monday. Had completely missed the fact that it's a bank holiday but the trains seem to be running normally so there shouldn't be problems. Will try to read along on DDs laptop but might not have a lot of time to post as she's got lots planned and we'll be busy. Look after yourselves, Lyn xxx.0

Kate - do you take on commissions? I always seem to end up paying more than I planned so thinking you would be a great person to manage my next piece of home improvements
Even with a fee I'm sure it would be cheaper than my management!
FTM - I can only think that not knowing who Justin Bieber is must be a good thing. There's far to much exposure nowadays for people who have very little to offer society and it has an unhealthy influence on some who are at an age where they need to be sheltered a bit more. Good grief - I sound like Victor Meldrew!
Hoglet - at least the theft is just toys - many years ago an elderly widowed family friend had a huge black cat called Heathcliff. He used to roam around the neighbour's gardens and if the doors were open he would often wander in but nobody minded (they were all quite elderly). When one neighbour died a young couple moved in and Heathcliff continued to visit their house.
Unfortunately he took an interest in a clothes horse where they dried the clothes and he was caught one afternoon dragging a pair of very small knickers back into his own home. When his owner investigated he had a secret stash of about 4 pairs.
The funniest thing was she wasn't at all embarrassed about him being a thief but she was horrified at how small and daring the knickers were and posted them back to the neighbour anonymously. My cousin and I were just children and we were highly amused by "Heathcliff, the knicker knocker" as he became known!
Well, the greenhouse is here (minus the glass at the moment). A friend has offered some spare bricks for the base so we just need to get our friendly brickie organised. I'm rather excited about this!
I had forgotten it is a bank holiday on Monday (ironic given I work in finance) so not sure what I will do with the extra time. It will largely depend on the weather I think. It has suddenly turned a bit wet and very cold up here, in fact I was concerned about the seeds which I had sewn over Easter however we will just have to wait and see.
MrsLW - hope you have a nice time over the weekend.
Ho to Cheapskate, candlelight, vj's mum, arthritic old thing and anyone else I may have missed - hope you are all well.
I'm working from home today so my quick break is over (I did manage to through veggies in a pot and start off some soup though) -back to work!0 -
Evening all..thanks for the good wishes..my nose is much better..my freckle is huge now and going a reddy brown colour..which according to paperwork is normal..its right on the bridge of my nose so you can't miss it..looks like a bullseye lol..

Well did i have 2 of the most over tired girls on Tuesday night..neither of them could sleep and it was half ten before they finally went..they went to bed at half seven...o i had tears of frustration from both of them..so in the end i had to sit with them and read story after story til they had finally gone...i almost dropped off my self at one point..so yesterday guess which 2 little people were up at the crack of dawn and miserable as sin..yep thats right those 2...i had tears, snapping at each other..stomping and generally being mardy bums...so straight after a bath they went to bed..didn't hear a peep all night..yet they were up before me again this morning and wow still miserable..am begginning to wonder if they coming down with something..had a horrible day really..no interest in school work or doing anything..so i just left them to get on with it..and they have gone to bed early again tonight and i can hear them moving about up there at this time of night...wonder what is wrong with them..

Hi everyone
Scottishminnie - that story about Heathcliff the knicker knocker made me smile so much! No undies brought in by Alfie yet but we did have a mouse from him the other day :-(
Last night I ended up at our local hardware store's ladies night and what an excellent time I had there! I hadn't intended to go, but they had an excellent special on washing powder so I thought I'd drop in on my way home, and I got there just as the ladies night was just about to start....
Well, for $1 entrance fee I got 2 glasses of sparkling wine, lots and lots of nibbles, a cooking demonstration with tasters from a contestant on last year's NZ Masterchef, a free pot of rocket, free product samples..... Having got a taste for what was going on I wandered a bit further into the store and had a go on several games, including 'chip the golf ball into the laundry tub' and sucker darts at the side of the fridge, which sadly I didn't win anything at. I did win a hanging lavender sachet from spin the wheel for a prize in the bathroom department and then won a set of ipod speakers from the spin wheel in the paint department.... The absolute best bit was the magician, where for watching a card trick I was given a $20 gift voucher, which was exactly the cost of the washing powder I had gone in to buy.
There were product and DIY demonstrations but I did have to get home to make dinner so couldn't stay too long. Thoroughly enjoyed it tho, and so nice to go to an event where everyone was friendly and enjoying themselves.
Hope you all have a great weekend :-)

FTM I wonder if the light levels in the mornings are waking the girls earlier now we're having longer days? I'm aware of waking most days at 5ish as it's light by then? Do you have blackout liners that you could add to thier bedroom curtains to make the room darker, it might help, good luck, Lyn xxx.0

Have a lovely weekend Lyn with DD1.
Be back later
Much love

Good evening, hope everyone is Ok and looking forward to the long weekend.
FTM poor girlies, sometimes it is a bit much isn't it and they need to have a good cry. I do hope they are not going down with anything.
Has been overcast here all day today but I understand tomorrow promises to be better.
I do love the stories of the cats. As I think I mentioned we had never had anything to do with cats, just dogs, until Flora adopted us, and she is such a character. We love her to pieces and for what it's worth I think she is fond of us. She makes us laugh with her antics and seems to like a cuddle now, but not for long. I think because of her neglect before we had her she wouldn't let us pick her up and it has taken a long time for her to allow us to do it now.
Nothing in particular planned for the weekend, but hopefully more gardening weather permitting. I know we have been warned to expect a frost tonight, but I haven't bought any bedding plants yet. My dear Dad used to say don't plant out until Spring Bank Holiday (or Whitsun as he would say).
Much love to everyone and have a good weekend.

Hi Candlelight,
Your Flora sounds like an absolute darling. She obviously chose you and I think that cats just know when they've found the right place. And how wonderful for you that she is starting to like cuddles now. A content cat is a wonderful thing :-)

Hello, home again and pleased to be so after a really lovely weekend with my lovely DD and a super concert.
FTM I'll get the bits and pieces from Paris in the post tomorrow, I've been waiting for the photos ftom DD but she's been so busy these last few weeks she hasn't had time to download them from her camera yet so I'll send you what I do have and e.mail the photos when I get them myself. I found the girls a lovely present yesterday which I'll pop into the envelope, DD was so jealous and I very nearly didn't get it out of the house, she said it was exactly what she loved at thier age, but I won so it's here with me now !!!
Hope everyone has had a nice bank holiday, I don't know what happened to the predicted cold weather, I went galloping north on the train with a warm coat, gloves, hat and scarf and it's been beautiful, sunny and very pleasant altogether, not a complaint though, just a reflection!!! Lyn xxx.0
