Happy Easter everyone, it's the first time I can remember in 35 years that we have no children at home for Easter, it feels very odd but DD1 goes back in to school on Tuesday and obviously DD2 has Ezra now and will be making her own traditions. It's grey and cold here today but not actually raining yet, that's due later on and to be honest the garden could do with some water as it's been dry for a while. I'm making us a nice steak lunch and am going to set about decluttering a couple of kitchen cupboards and also have a sort out of what we have up in the storeroom and maybe do a boot fair in the not too distant future. Hope you all have a really lovely Easter weekend, Love Lyn xxx.0

Thank you Lyn, and a very happy Easter weekend to everyone.
It will be a quiet day for us as well. Weather not good at all and really quite cool so won't be out in the garden today. Popping up to see DD1 and taking her some of the beef in gravy we are having for lunch and some chocolate cake I made yesterday.
I bought Himself an Easter egg as a treat so I expect he will tuck into that tonight whilst we watch Endeavour. I loved Morse and I love Endeavour almost as much, I think it is a wonderful series, albeit short, and I love Fred Thursday (his boss).
Hoping to see Sister and Brother in law tomorrow but nothing else planned. All the children (big and not so small) have had their Easter eggs, and to be honest it is quite nice to have a quiet day just me and Himself:)
Love and hugs to you all

Good morning all..Happy Easter to you all..
MLW..o thats such good news about finding relatives..such hard work to do as well with a prolific name too lol...we have done ours but its hard because my grandad on my dad's side was in a Barnados home with his brothers and sisters and they all had different surnames..his apparent auntie took them all out and brought them up only for them to find out she was the big sister..so its hard to find out...and my simons dad is either a Tudor or a Cooper..his mum never told him..so its a brick wall that end too..the women were much easier to do..my great gran came from Wales and my great grandad was from Cornwall...however my grandad cleared off to America for 5 years and then came back with another womans name tattoed on his chest and then married my granny..so my mum could potentially have half brothers or sisters in America and not know..would be nice if she did..
Well this morning the girls were up at the crack of dawn..the Easter Bunny has been generous this year..along with new hair clips and a beautiful dress for them..they have quite a few eggs too..plus all the ones i made and the egg hunt later when it stops raining..may have to postpone that and do tomorrow..
We made simon some yummy choclate bunnies and wrapped them in foil..and i didn't get an egg but a box of Bendicts choclates and 2 buddlea? bushes for the garden..so am happy too..we have treated sam to huge egg and some new shirts..
I went to the CS yesterday and got 2 books for myself and the girls had a little teddy each..on the way back we popped into the co-op..they were selling the turkeys for less than half price..so i dug deep in my purse and got 2..one for today and one for Christmas..lol..we were going to have some sliced beef that is frozen in the freezer but we will save that for another time..i cooked the turkey yesterday afternoon and let it cool..its now sliced and stripped ready for lunch and tea and any other meals i want to do with it..
Its just us and sam and girls today..i saw all my girls and grandchildren in the week and gave eggs out and gifts too...we have a huge choclate cake covered in little choclate eggs for dessert..my table is et with the posh stuff today..and i have scattered the confetti that Lyn sent us..it looks lovely..
I am hoping the rain has done the garden and allotment the world of good..we need some rain..
Have a good weekend all..have a rest..
love

Hello all
I am back from my holibobs on the canals of France - glorious sunshine for the most part and no internet, emails or marking. Nothing faster than 4 mph and no-one fell out (with each other - not the boat) - much!
Mrs LW glad you liked Paree - it is one of my favouritist places - went there yesterday for an omelette before getting on Eurostar to come home.
I have injured myself jumping from boat to jetty, it was raining but someone's dog had done their business and it was left for me to jump into - so not only did I end up doing the splits and tearing some muscles, but my shoes were covered too  I can barely walk and can't drive. So I have come home with a week's load of washing - plus DD's who stayed here and didn't think to do any - no food in, cos DD didn't think to do any, and I can't easily sort any of it out.
Plus I am going to S. Korea for work on Thursday and just hope I can walk round Schipol (Amsterdam) airport for my connections. it should be OK, it is a lot better already.
The good thing is I have to work from home so can get some of the housework bits sorted. Am waiting for OH to come home so he can take me shopping. Am not used to having to rely on others.
Glad everyone had a good easter.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
VJsMUM we found an amazing park in Paris, go to the Bastille Metro stop and turn left as you come out of the station and walk a little way along the road then you'll come to 4 railway arches with a staircase leading up to the top, look up and you'll see trees. The old railway line has been turned into a park in the sky,it's planted up with trees, shrubs, perennial plants, has ponds and ducks, and runs for 4.2 kilometers right to the end of the old line. Half way along is a little park with picnic tables and steps down to a free water fountain where you can not only get spring water but sparkling water, as much as you want for free. We walked the whole length and back and bought some fruit from a little shop at the far end and had our lunch at a picnic table washed down with the sparkling water. It was instigated by the local ladies when the rail line went out of use and they wanted a safe area for their children to play. It's magic, so much birdlife, and along the way built in exercise equipment for the locals to use, really worth a visit, Lyn xxx.0

I think I went there a few years ago, but it wasn't so wow then.
There is a similar one in New York called the Highline, and they are talking of building a bridge over the Thames along the same line.
It is great to find things for free isn't itI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hi everyone
I've been enjoying reading all your news over Easter. Not been posting much as I try to take a break from the computer when I'm on leave and it's quite a faff trying to do it from the phone.
We had a lovely family Easter with my cousins in the countryside. They live in an absolutely gorgeous spot but the weather was not good enough to be outside sadly.
The insulation is going in this morning - I can't wait! The company has not been the easiest to deal with and I had to send a grumpy email yesterday - they did ring with an appointment almost immediately so it must have done the trick.
Not 6am yet here and I've been up with the cats. The nights at so much colder now they don't want to go out so have been chasing each other round the bedroom. I've just shut them out so they're scratching at the bedroom door....
Hope everyone is well, and I'll post more once I'm back at work
Hoglet x0 -
Evening everyone,
Oh VJs Mum how painful. I had soft tissue damage at the back of my right knee some years ago and it was so painful, I couldn't even put my foot to the floor. I do hope you are feeling somewhat better before you start your travels again.
Hoglet, yes the nights are cold here at the moment too, and today has been very overcast. I think the reason cats wake up so early is because they spend most of the day asleep, at least Flora does.
New washing machine being delivered tomorrow thank goodness. We haven't had the old one above 2 years, but what with the call out charge and the replacement part it was cheaper to buy a new one. It shouldn't be like that should it, but it is.
I bought a new toaster and a steam iron today from A*da, they were not expensive, but seem absolutely fine.
Have cleaned the sink unit out ready to disconnect washing machine, cleaned the fridge out and chucked some things away, and generally tidied the kitchen cupboards. Polished all the bedroom furniture and cleaned the windows, so that has been the start of my spring cleaning, am I a good girl?:)
Have to wait in tomorrow for the washer, they couldn't give me a time slot, but they will phone an hour before delivery, so must find something that keeps me busy, but also make sure I can hear the phone.
FTM hope you and the girls are OK and have enjoyed your Easter break, pity the weather hadn't been better.
Well that's all my news I think, the weather is quite wintery, so I think time to close the blinds and switch the lamps on.
Much love and hugs to anyone who wants one

Evening all. I hope everyone is well rested from the Easter Break. We were very surprised up here to spot a big yellow ball in the sky on Saturday and it stayed all weekend which was wonderful. Very windy but sunny so I spent 3 days in the garden and have a pink nose to show for it!
The garden is looking well, I've now had two lots of rhubarb and most of my veggies are planted. Two lots of exciting news for me though - on Sunday I was about to dig up a large planter where I had buried 7 or so huge shiny brown chestnuts which I brought back from my favourite park in Omaha last autumn. I know it's bad to bring seeds or plants into the country but I hadn't seen such magnificent chestnuts in years so I packed them carefully in my hand luggage and hauled them home.
Hubby was convinced I'd not only broken the law but wasted my time and I was beginning to think he was right. I planted some inside and they came to nothing and I was sure the outside ones had died too when I found 3 little red sprouts
I'm beyond excited - it may take years more than I have left for them to grow but I'm guarding them carefully!
My other piece of exciting news was that my father has acquired for me a perfect condition greenhouse which someone doesn't want and would like it taken away. I think it is 6 feet by 8 feet so not as big as my mothers (which I've coveted for years) and may have 3 panes of glass missing but I'm like a dog with 2 tails I'm so happy. A greenhouse has been on my wish list for ages but I never felt I could really justify it. I think it may be some weeks before we get it home and I need to speak to my friendly bricklayer to have a base built however it's definitely something for me to look forward to.
My new tumble drier arrived too (the old one died unexpectedly but I figured we had it 7 years so I suppose that's about normal). Of course, the weather has been great since it came and I've had no need to use it - long may that continue!
I'm off to study my gardening manuals now - I need to start planning my greenhouse contents!!!!0 -
Ouchie! Ouchie! VJsmum! What a spoiler - having self inflicted a similar injury to myself by running across a wet tiled floor - I feel your pain with great sympathy. The injury is bad enough but having to clean shoes because of a dirty dog owners irresponsibility is adding insult to injury
Hope you make a quick recovery x x:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls
