Afternoon all,
Weather not so nice as yesterday but still dry.
Took daughter for physio this morning and then off to Mr.A for a few bits of shopping. Came home had lunch, tomato soup, corned beef & tomato roll and fresh fruit, and made Lyn's apple custard crumble, but I put a few blackberries in that I had in the fridge. Really looking forward to eating it tonight.
AOL I hope you are not too sore after your fall yesterday. You really must take more water with it:), but seriously take things steady because a fall can really shake you up.
Good to hear from you Hoglet, hope Alfie's problem sorts itself out soon .
FTM hope things are back to normal now, when will you start Fern and Iris' Easter holidays?. Grandchildren don't break up until a week on Friday.
Kate, Charlies-Aunt, Scottish Minnie and VJs Mum hello, hope you are all OK. Sorry if I have missed anyone.
No more news at the moment, will come back to let you know how delicious Lyn's crumble is:)
Much love

Sara, thewe dding sounded fantastic, so glad the MiL is the only fly in the ointment!
From a very bleak start today it is now glorious outside, DD is playing in the empty paddling pool, lying on an old sleeping bag and eating grapes and tomatoes - she knows how to live! Am trying to follow counsellor's advice and enjoy "being in the moment", and it's quite easy when the sun's out and, for once, I don't have to rush! :j
Ours finish next Friday for Easter, can't come soon enough for us! Got a few things for them to make to trim up the house - polystyrene eggs to paint or decorate, etc., and I always have jugs of pu$$y willow dotted around, make a spring coloured wreath.
Hope some of you also have sun, or at least no rain,

Lyn's crumble was delicious. I served it with a drop of single cream and we have lots left for tomorrow.
The custard seems to make the fruit more moist than it would normally be. Give it a try.:)

Well, the vet phoned at lunchtime with the biopsy results and it's like the Curates egg, good in parts!!! Docky has a very slow growing, low grade tumour on the sheath surrounding his main facial nerve on the left side, it hasn't spread and will not spread. We have 3 options, a major operation that would remove the tumour and quite a lot of bone and facial tissue, a smaller op to remove the tumour followed by chemotherapy/radio therapy which would probably not be successful as the tumour is too slow growing to be dealt with by either of these and would come back or as it isn't likely to spread but is likely to get bigger we can leave it alone and they can prescribe medication later on to desensitise the nerve and stop it from irritating and causing him discomfort. We love him to bits and have decided to leave it alone, give him a good life while we can, he's a dog that likes his walks and runs and freedom and most other dogs and certainly all his people friends, she thinks it will be 3 - 4 years before it gets too big for him to cope and said he's an old dog now, it won't kill him, something else will get him in the long run. So we know he's not going to suffer, we know he's still going to have fun and enjoy his life and we know our own vet will tell us if and when he has too heavy a burden to bear and that we must let him go or nature will take it's own course and he'll go naturally from old age. It's a relief to know the results, all the what ifs are gone and we can all cope with the prognisis and get on with our lives again, thanks for all your support while it's been going on, much appreciated at this end, Lyn xxx.
CANDLELIGHT glad you enjoyed the crumble xxx.0 -
I think you are very wise Lyn to leave it. As you say the vet will tell you when it is time and in the meantime you will have your Docky with you, I wouldn't want to put him through all that treatment (I had radiotherapy and the after effects are not pleasant) and I would think it would be very frightening for him.
Enjoy your life with him now, just as it was before and put everything else to the back of your mind. I would think he and Zebra will be very good friends, I know my DGD who is 21 still remembers our golden retriever, and he was so good with her and would sit by her even when she was a baby.
Sleep tight tonight
Much love

Hi everyone,
MLW - what a relief to get Docky's results, I would certainly have left it alone as well, sounds like you have a great vet.
Candlelight - that crumble sounds delicious, I must give it a go sometime.
The weather is all over the place here at the moment. We're deep in autumn now, and sometimes it feels like winter and sometimes like the middle of summer. Monday night was quite chilly overnight and I had to put the bathroom heater on when I got up, thick fog on the way into work and then 27 degrees in the afternoon, before a hot stuffy night last night. I don't want the warm weather to end but I would like to be able to make a decision on whether to switch to the winter duvet without thinking I'll be switching back tomorrow night...
We had batch cooked chilli with jacket potatoes and corn last night. DH noticed the spinach I snuck into the chilli tho ;-) I have hot and sour soup with elderly noodles for lunch today and DH has the last of the salsa soup, lucky thing. Off to check what's coming in the veg box this week - I used to make a point of never swapping anything out, but I'm tired of being told off by elderly cabbages lurking the bottom of the fridge!
Big girl and boy cat thoroughly fed up with not being let out. Alfie has learned to open the cat door when it is set to 'in only', as has the big boy cat, so until he is neutered and chipped he's not going out. Until he learned to do that at least the big boy could come and go as he pleased, and to be honest as long as we let the girl out every so often she wasn't that fussed about going out, but we knew she could get back in when she wanted. Now they are all cooped up together for another week and there are some riots going on. We have been letting the big cats out when we're in as much as possible tho. Also Alfie's new trick is pulling all the magnets off the fridge door - we have lots that we've collected from around the world, and they're obviously very attractive to Alfie!
Right, best get on and do some work, have a lovely evening everyone

Hi everyone :-)
MLW - hope Docky's going from strength to strength
Today is DH's payday so will be the weekly trip to the SM - he does it now and takes a list, much better for everyone that way. He works much closer to home than I do so he's normally home just around the same time as me after an SM run, otherwise he'd be waiting around for me to get home before it's done.
Usual cat riots last night but there did seem to be a semblance of peace first thing is morning... at least it was half past 5 before they woke me up not 4am like it was yesterday! All takes time to get back into a routine.
More rugby watching planned for the weekend - free local game this time and walking distance from home. That's about all we've got planned but I must get a birthday present for cousin's DH.
We've arranged for a quote for new ceiling insulation, they're coming in 2 weeks - obviously its the time of year when lots of people are considering it - bit of money needs to be spent on it but we need to improve the warmth of our home seriously over the next few years. Need to get the insulation sorted before tackling heating or venting.
Looks like dinner will be a cheese souffle omelette again, probably with salad. They are so delicious and light, DH is a real convert, also quick to rustle up and towards the end of the week my enthusiasm for cooking seriously wanes, despite it being one of my hobbies.
Got a little bit more of my cross stitch done last night. I feel like I'm on the home straight with this one so hopefully I'll be able to whip through it and get it finished. The next project is seriously huge and needs some planning before I can start it, the pattern is 36 pages long......
Right, I'd best do some work, hope everyone is well
Hoglet x0
