  • Hi CANDLELIGHT yes, it's quiet when he's not here but I'm used to it as he always had to do abroad trips when he worked so I'm quite self sufficient on my own, miss him to laugh with though, we do a lot of that!!! Never mind, I've got my Docky Dog for company and he keeps me occupied playing with 'Bunny' and 'Pinky Pig' who are his two favourite toys. He's allowed to sleep on Daddys side of the bed when Daddy is away so he's quite happy too although I won't get a look in fron the lurcha when Daddy is back home, he's a real Daddys boy!!! Lyn xxx.

    Arggghhhhh!

Our trip to the allotment to pick our purple flowering broccoli lead to the discovery that the local pigeon population had already beaten us to it.

The little swines have pecked the tops of the plants to shreds leaving only a few sad looking frons at the sides.

    Grrrrhh!

  • Oh Charlies-Aunt it is so disheartening isn't it?

We are not plagued with pigeons, but slugs. Anything you plant in spring here is eaten over night by these pests. We have tried most remedies but to no avail.

  • Hi FTM glad you've got your 'ping' back, what a busy bunny you've been today, don't overdo it and set yourself back will you? We've set up skype and I had a lovely chat with DD2 and Ezra this afternoon and it will be so nice to actually see how he changes as he grows over the next few months. I'm off to visit on Tuesday and will do the housework for her from top to tail so the flat is nice, she gets unsettled if it gets too untidy and also will have lots of Ezra cuddles so mum can do a few things she needs to. I'm allowed to take him out for a walk using the baby bjorn carrier so I'll have a nice wander round the many charity shops near to where they live and a trip to Sainsbugs too and hopefully be able to do a late night feed with him to let them catch up on some much needed sleep. Her in laws have been to visit this weekend but stayed in a hotel rather than add to the new baby load and they were taken out for a couple of meals which mum dad and baby thoroughly enjoyed. DD says the worse thing is being alone at home most of her day when previously it had been full of different people, bless her!!!

He Who Knows came home late last night having sawn up and stacked an awful lot of wood for DD1 and is a bit achey today as a result so he's been taking a rest and is now sitting by the fire watching The Sting on TV, the joys of getting older eh? Lyn xxx.
  • Hi FTM glad you are feeling more normal and looking glamorous:)

I usually have my hair cut every 5 weeks but my hairdresser had her first baby 3 weeks ago so I have to wait until the end of March. I probably won't be able to see through my fringe by then!!

You are naughty winding Simon up like that, you know what men are like with doctors, I hope his hearing improves after.

Your girls are being very good with regard to sorting their toys, but to be honest most children have too many, and of course they out grow them as well. Hopefully other children will benefit from their generosity.

Lyn have a lovely time with Ezra. I can well remember being at home with a baby. I chose to be a SAHM for the first 10 years, but I used to say to Himself when he came home from work "talk to me", Poor man wanted to just unwind and have his meal and I wanted adult conversation, but I got over it, thank goodness. I hope you have lots of "cuggles"

Weather has been awful today with lots of rain but I see they promise better weather towards the end of the week.

    Much love to everyone

    Hello everyone :-)

Lovely to catch up on what's being going on with you all.

Our weekend ended up quite busy in the end. I got home from work on friday night to find an approx 3 month old kitten had appeared in our garden. He wasn't in great condition, and over the weekend hr spent more and more time with us. Last night he slept on our bed all night curled up next to me. He's had a bit of an upset stomach but we'll get him some kitten food today which should help. Managed to get him to drink some water during the night tho, as he'd got a very upset stomach from gorging on our cats' food, so I was glad I managed to get some hydration into him. He's a dear little thing, but our cats are none too happy at the moment. One of our neighbours found him a few weeks ago and came round asking if he was ours. We asked her if she had found out where he came from but no luck.

Other than that a pretty quiet weekend with us. I got 11 jars of green tomato chutney put away yesterday after taking the last of the tomatoes and tidying up the garden. looks much better now, and already for planting later on in the year. Also got 4 portions of potato & corn chowder and 5 portions of chicken and bacon pie ready for mid week meals. we had some of the pie yesterday adn it was delicious, even if I do say so myself :-)

Ha, Candlelight, I have my hair cut about once a year. I am slovenly! To be fair, my hair is halfway down my back and doesn't really have a style so I can get away with it ;)

FTM, wow you have your ping back :D

Ah hoglet, bless you for looking after the kitten, poor love.

Charlie's Aunt, that's so frustrating. I get my own back on snails and slugs by feeding them to the ducks ;)

MrsL, enjoy your time with DD and baby Zebra.

Lovely day here, had the in laws over for dinner and a couple of glasses of wine, just had a bath now I need to make some more scotch eggs, sort out lunch then it's bed time.

Evening all. This may be a short post as I've now lost two posts just as I went to submit them.

Welcome to the new faces - nice to meet you all.

Hoglet - sounds like you have been adopted by the little kitty. I believe animals pick their homes sometimes and this certainly sounds like it.

MrsLW - good to hear baby Ezra and mum are doing well. Enjoy your visit.

CharliesAunt - I too have many pigeons, although they aren't eating anything other than the left over bird seed which the little birds drop. They are so fat though that the farm cats have caught a few now. I'm probably not a nice person but I wasn't too distressed at the sight of a mound of grey feathers recently and a big ginger tom cat who was so stuffed he was fast asleep on the top of the farmhouse oil tank enjoying some rare sunshine.

Candelight - I know what you mean about needing to chat to someone. I used to work in a department with only 3 of us in one location. The other two always took their summer holidays at the same time so for 2 weeks I was "alone". When I say alone I worked in a building with other departments and dealt with people all day long by phone. By the end of week one hubby knew that I was on my own as I chattered like a demented canary as soon as I got home and by the end of week two he was looking forward to the boys returning as much as I was - and he had never met them!

It's been a busy week here - lots of cooking. I made a huge pot of stovies tonight so they are now split up and ready to freeze. I also grated lots of carrot to add to salads for my lunches. My clothes are getting way too tight so I need to get back to sensible eating.

Not much happening in the garden yet - a few crocuses, plenty daffodil and tulips appearing but not much colour yet.

I asked hubby for a bucketful of dung for my rhubarb last week. I arrived home yesterday to see him trundling up the driveway with the tractor and a "bucketful" of dung. Yes, a huge, muckle JCB sized "bucket". It covered my rhubarb, all my raised beds and I still have a pile to spare. When I said a bucket I meant pail sized! That will teach me to be more specific in future!
