Morning everyone, dull and grey again today but certainly not cold here. We picked our apples yesterday and I woke in the night and actually looked out of the window with the thought that Ha Ha you won't take any more because they are in a box in my kitchen!!!

FTM hope the littlies are over thier sickness today and feeling very much better, have a good day all of you, we're going up to the local boot fair this morning, it's a long time since we did one and I feel like an outing that won't cost me much more than the 20p each to get in !!! I know how to live!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • Morning everyone.

DH and I are a bit creaky this morning as we spent several hours on the allotment digging and bagging potatoes - its been a abundant crop this year which should keep us going for months :) we bought the seed potatoes very cheaply from Aldi and they have been very blight + bug resistant. :)

Its a lovely bright sunny day today so we'll be gathering runner beans, beetroot, cabbages and the last of the courgettes :) ..... tonight will be spend blanching, slicing etc and trying to re-arrange the freezer to accommodate a few more bags of garden produce!

  • Goodness me did I find some nice things at the boot fair this morning, Lentil now has a lovely yellow baby bath and top and tail bowl, a wooden mobile that is a farm house with the farmer and farm animals as danglers,a brand new box of wooden bricks with letters and numbers on in a wooden box, a wooden tray puzzle of home, mummy daddy etc, a cuddly plush little lion, and for DD1 I got a brand new 6 x mini kugelhopf cake tin, a cast iron tealight warmer for on the table (to put a serving dish on to keep the food warm) and a brand new cats christmas stocking for Pushkin Kitten. For me I got a pack of glow in the dark star shapes for 50p to stick on things like the tv remote and light switches so we can see them in the dark or in case of power cuts,a really good haul!!! Off to make picalilli in huge quantities as the veg has been in brine all night, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • My goodness Mrs.LW you did well at the car boot sale. Isn't it lovely buying baby things(I don't suppose Lentil is going to be spoilt!!!)

FTW hope the girls are OK this morning and the bug hasn't been passed to anyone else.

Weather not bad here this morning, so have washed several sweaters to freshen them. Should have done this during the summer but some how didn't get round to it.

Hope you all have a good Sunday and Charlies-Aunt and Mrs.LW you could possibly set a business up together with all of this lovely produce.

    Take care

FTM, hope the littlies are feeling better x

Mrs LW, well done on the bargains!

Well yesterday was lovely, really nice day at the county show, got there early when it was still quite quiet, had a nice time wandering round the stalls, had some nice food and OH had a pint of cider which nearly knocked him out as it was rather strong!

Then we went (I drove!) to buy a new pair of ducks - we had hoped there would be some at the show but sadly not. We had hoped to get at least one more duck from the ducklings plus one of our flock passed away this week. We are calling the new pair our "anniversary ducks"! They are white campbells and very pretty.

Tonight OH is going to pick up another duck which is on its own - we really wanted at least a pair but this guy only has one and OH felt sorry for it. Unfortunately it is near where we picked up the other 2 from yesterday but the guy wasn't home when we were in the area so OH has to do a return trip this evening.

The meal out was nice last night, the food was fair to good, not brilliant, but the service was great, very laid back and not rushed and the Italian waitress was very approving when we ordered limoncello instead of coffee! Finished up with a glass of wine at the pub by which time I was out on my feet so we splashed out on a taxi home.

Sadly today has not been as productive as I had hoped but am going to get off my bum and head to the kitchen to start preserving shortly!
  • Today I've made 5 x 2lb jars of picalilli, the second batch of pear chutney is simmering on the stove right now and making the house smell wonderful and I've cooked up and put through the jelly bag a big batch of blackberry and apple for bramble jelly to be made in the morning. He Who Knows is taking me to the New Forest either tomorrow or Tuesday to get the crab apples for crab apple jelly and the lovely lady across the road gave me 10lbs of pears yesterday some of which are in the chutney and the rest will be made into Pear Ginger for winter desserts some time later in the week. My leggies ache from standing by the preserving pan stirring preserves!!! Worth it though!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY for yesterday !!! xxx.

    Wow, busy day MrsL!

After a slow start I have made 5 bottles of elderberry syrup, 7 1lb jars of bread and butter pickles and 6 jars of pickled shallots. Am off for a bath now!

Thanks for the recipe for the b&b pickles MrsL x
  • Evening all- just popping in from across the pond to say hi. I've been online from time to time and catching up on things.

You have all been so busy - makes me feel even lazier:)

Kate - what are bread and butter pickles? I've never heard that expression before - and I'm really curious.

Everyone is starting to dress their homes for fall over here. I love it - pumpkins by the door and autumn coloured wreaths. I'm hoping my pumpkins will have grown to something worthwhile by the time I get home. I do have some fabric ones from last year which I will display inside however I like to have 3 on the front doorstep. I may have to look for a wreath to bring home - I'll be money saving though will make sure to go somewhere that has lots of bargains!

Will pop in again soon. Have a good week all.

I've just realised it's not evening either so I really should have said good morning all!
