I get them here, about 5 a week, we get about 30 underpaid items a week which don't get stopped though. People apply for jobs in a large envelope with insufficient postage, how do you think they get on :rotfl:
We pay for the charged ones with a franked impression.
My old work used to just bin them – if somebody wanted to write to us they could either pay the correct postage or use our freepost handwritten business reply doodah.

so how does the penny difference come?

    a large letter 2nd class is 58p,92p,£1.23,£1.76
    1st class stamp is 46p
    2nd class 36p

    4x 46 £1.84
    3x46 £1.48
    2x46 92p

    for 36p its £1.44,£1.08,72p

    1st plus a 2nd is 82p
so getting a charge for 1p takes some doing with stamp arrangments

yesterday I stuck a first class stamp on the back of a letter by mistake. (I'm well aware I'm stupid before you all rush to point it out) - since I didn't think it was appropriate to write "stamp on other side" on the front of the envelope I peeled it off and attached another. I still have the peeled off stamp which is no longer sticky.

If I reuse it, using glue or tape, will that be acceptable? It most certainly has not been used and has been paid for however I don't want to run the risk of someone being incorrectly asked to pay excess postage.

Although i wouldnt re use an unfranked 'used' stamp. Yes, i would feel comfortable doing this. I'd chance it.

[strike]Where does this 1p charge you reffer to come up?[/strike]

Sorry I just meant underpaid in general missed the specific amount in the post you were replying too.

PS it's usualy a big fat C4 envelope weighing 120g with one first class stamp on it and urgent written in marker pen where the return address should go.

fair enough. always made me laugh when we would get job applications with no/insufficient postage
some companies even had pre printed envelopes that stated it was a large letter and to apply sufficient postage
