Re-using stamps? Is this ok?

I bought something from eBay & now need to return it.
The original packing has one of those whopping big 1st class stamps on it, but it doesn't appear to be stamped or anything torn off or whatever. There's no markings on it that i can see to say that it's gone through the system (i can attach photo if needed).
The weight is sub 100g (http://www.seajays.org.uk/postage/index.cfm?) & as i'm returning it i want to send it via recorded means.
The price on the stamp is £2.35 - the price of recorded.
Can i just ask for it to be sent recorded & have a recorded sticker put on there? Or will i need to pay for a fresh stamp?
I'm not quibbling over £2.35, but if i can reuse the stamp, then why not.

Depends on your own moral code, I've always said, "Doing what's right isn't about doing what you can get away wtih". I stand by this.0

Erm... I would do it.
Okay, I admit, I HAVE done it.
More than once.
But less than 3 times. That I can remember
Got a delivery in a small padded envelope, my name and address on a sticker on the front, with a few stamps. Stamps hadn't been franked/stamped, so I stuck my label onto it and posted it xCan't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
In my opinion it's fraudulent and it's wrong. Royal Mail have introduced tamper proof stamps in the last year or so in an attempt to stop this practice. See here.
If you receive a letter with a re-used stamp you may be charged the price of the stamp plus a £1 handling fee.
As this is a question about ebay, I'll move this thread over to the ebay board later.

This is not a question about ebay, it's about defrauding Royal mail! This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

The excitable people will have to excuse my ignorance, i didn't actually know it was wrong as in illegal. I'll just pay for full postage myself then. Don't want to run the risk.0 -
This isn't about eBay at all. If it was about eBay then i'd be asking about the return procedure of EBAY. I'm not. I'm asking about re-using stamps. Yes it's for an eBay sale, but it could apply to absolutely anything. It could apply to a simple letter received from the nan. Whatever. So it's not about eBay at all.

Please accept my apologies. I see your point and will not move it to the ebay board. Maybe it's just me, but I haven't noticed any excitable people on this thread.

The OP asked if he could reuse a stamp that had not been franked!!
The correct answer (not an "opinion")is that it is illegal to re-use stamps that have not been franked.

Excitable? Because someone told you that re-using stamps is illegal? And, in your book wrong is only wrong if it's illegal? Hmm!0

I didn't say it was wrong at all! (The Board Guide wrongly said this thread was about an ebay question, and gave an opinion that it was wrong to re-use stamps - all I did was point out it's illegal.)0

The way i see it is i'm asking a simple question & some people are nearly keeling over about to enter their grave at such a suggestion. Nobody has been killed, only a question asked. I've not even done it :rotfl:Just asked it.
Not aimed at you, but people shouldn't take it personal anyway - i just find it a bit of a trend on MSE (especially the tax forum, hell fire!!). You just filter the good from the bad & move on
Thanks for the replies anyway.0
