nope the ticket covers travel for the full day
the ticket covers parking from a set period in a set area
the stamp price covers one journey from point of sending to destination
I worked as a full time ebayer before RM,not once did the thought even pass my mind not to pay for postage.

God bless you OM, one thing is for sure you will go to heaven. :A

    This seems incorrect.

Doesn't each stamp cover at least the cost of potentially at least 2 journeys. (eg it pays for letters to be delivered and then pays the postage if they are returned to sender, or manually redirected to the addressee).

You sure you know what you are talking about?

  • on a broadly related note (since we have an ex postie here)

yesterday I stuck a first class stamp on the back of a letter by mistake. (I'm well aware I'm stupid before you all rush to point it out) - since I didn't think it was appropriate to write "stamp on other side" on the front of the envelope I peeled it off and attached another. I still have the peeled off stamp which is no longer sticky.

If I reuse it, using glue or tape, will that be acceptable? It most certainly has not been used and has been paid for however I don't want to run the risk of someone being incorrectly asked to pay excess postage.

    with a stamp it does
however thats down to RM,not a caveat for someone to resuse a piece of paper (given the stamp is of no value)
If you want to look at the full picture
the cost of returning an item via RLB (belfast) then it could never cover these costs
As for manual redirection,I assume you mean unofficial redirection.
another 'service' I don't know why RM don't clamp down on and charge accordingly

the machines will likely detect and charge the item

not worth the risk then. It's a pity RM penalises people who make mistakes and ignores those who defraud however it seems that's always the easiest option.

Why not help the poor poster wanting to stay within the law instead of this fantasy world of machines detecting stamps that have been peeled off the rear of envelopes.

Here's a suggestion which should ensure no problems for scottishminnie.

Send the peeled off stamp into RM's customer services along with a covering letter with a sworn statement (made in front of a clergyman/lawyer/lady doctor/ex postie) about what has happened and ask for it to be exchanged for a stamp that will pass the detection machines. Enclose a SAE for its return, and of course use special delivery to ensure it reaches the customer services dept.

PS. Those detector machines are rubbish - I never heard of them catching any one out for using peeled off stamps! How much do they cost, how many are there of them?

well you havent heard of it,I have seen many
    who would have guessed that?
a taped stamp is a charge right away

As for costs, why would I know?
you realise its all part of the sorting mech?
you don't have a guy lifting one letter out to buy through the ACME stamp checkerupper machine

as for your critique of my previous reply
I gave the exact answer to the question. some folks on this thread get very touchy when you deviate from that.
