    Exactly.

They must never go on the roads either, cos we would have got stuck behind them all driving within the speed limit!

It often happens that the holier than thou brigade decide to give us their opinions when all that has been asked is a money saving question (on this money saving website)

Now I think that's unfair, nobody here has claimed to be perfect, the OS board in particular is about aspring to acheive a certain lifestyle, re-using stamps, being stingy and getting preachy doesn't go hand in hand with that. ;) In any case we should always strive to do what we feel is right. :D

well you can go both ways
however lets take the moneysaving aspect
so its fine to not pay for a service if it saves money?
so its fine to order from eBay and then claim the item didnt arrive? after all the sender can claim from RM. money saving?
go shopping, slip a ffew items in your pocket.

    lets just tweak it

I'm not quibbling over £2.35, but if i can get away without paying, then why not.

    moneysaving?

No, you are just being disingenuous!!

He did ask a proper question, and you are twisting it beyond any reasonable meaning!

And as I said, the issue wouldn't have ever arisen had the RM or the postie done their job in the first place and cancelled the stamp(s).

You join the ranks of the hang em highs! He just asked a genuine question!

well its not a genuine question
the simple answer is the service paid for was performed. the OP knows this and can simply discard the stamps
So are you saying as long as you can put the blame on someone else then its fine?
so if a security gaurd fails to catch you shoplifting, its fine?
    as per , but if
    i can get away
    then why not.

given you mention driving, drink driving must be fine if you don't get caught?
its the Police at fault, given its their job to catch you

The amount of unfranked stamps that come into me at work is quite astounding. I peel them off and use them on the little cards they send in when someone has underpaid by 1p and their item is being held at the sorting office until we pay the handling fee.

    .........

You are twisting this so much, why??? (And how have I ever said that drink driving is ok if you don't get caught? Just more twisted logic)

It was a genuine question (the OP has returned and confirmed that).

Despite your opinion, many are unaware that it is illegal to reuse unfranked stamps - otherwise why has the PO made the stamps harder to peel off????

so why did you bring in driving and speed limits?
seems you can deviate and draw any comparisons you like, but you take your ball home for everyone else?
Regardless of rules, the OP knew full well they were looking at using a service without paying for it

When you say the packet had a "whopping big 1st class stamp" on it, do you mean one of the gold or white sticky labels? Because if you do, then no you can't 're-use' it because it has a date on which it was originally posted, that is why it isn't usually franked or marked in anyway.

Thought I was the only one who noticed this too. The PO used to print a white label when you posted stuff costing more than a few stamps, now they use large gold stamps which have the price paid and date. Does that actually get franked?? Not sure, but seeing as you would probably have to hand it in at the PO if it's too big for a post box then I very much doubt you could get away with it - why pay x days ago and not post it straight away? Do these labels also have the originating town on them??

I don't think the OP was talking about a bog stand stamp you buy over the counter, but a parcel stamp thingy printed out at the PO specifically for that parcel & it's weight.

Just re-read and saw the bit about you wanting it sent recorded. Was it sent to you recorded? If you did want to follow this through (not advocating it, just commenting on it) then the best you could hope for would be to say to hadn't posted it when you paid for it x days ago and pay for recorded as an extra. If it's already got the recorded sticker on it from when it was sent to you you've no chance as the PO would clearly see it was a pre-used envelope!

My original contribution was to factually answer the OP's question.

Others chose to opinionate on the rights and wrongs/morals etc of reusing stamps, which was not the original point of this thread!

Just as elsewhere on MSE, people asking questions have to put up with lots of opinions based on posters morals being expressed, when they are completely irrelevant to the original question.

Suggesting I am a deviant is unnecessary fighting talk!
